yes, there is some artistic genius within our nondescript little town somewhere!
This year, the Powers That Be have for the first time recognised our region in its own right and given us our own forum. This was obviously on the back of our novelling prowess last year.... that should inspire you, if not terrify you. Feel free to post away on here, an please use it wisely!
I'm Bel, I've now officially been crowned your Municipal Liaison person for Darlington and surrounds (we might just have to include the odd Durhamite or Teesside resident, I think there was at least one last year.) We also welcome Honourary Darloites, that is, the people who feel that our town is so wonderful they would rather join us that admit they live in London.
This is my third attempt at Nanowrimo, I completed last year and made a valient effort (35k + two university essays!) in years gone by. I also attempted Script Frenzy, so I can claim some vaguely useful experience. I can't offer ideas, plot lines or actualyl write chunks of it for you, but I can and will encourage, pursuade, motivate, cajoul, bully, nag and otherwise antagonise you into completing it.
I will happily try to answer any questions about Nanowrimo itself if there's anything worrying you. Before we get too many FAQs, No, you cannot use this as an excuse to get out of work/school, and no, undertaking it is not legally grounds for divorce, as far as I'm aware.
Nothing is ever impossible. It is only a month, and even the most stressed and decrepid of us can survive a month with very little sleep.
I currently work in Caffe Nero in Darlington (the one above the Waterstones on High Row, not the old Ottakars!). I'm going to arrange some write-ins, and hopefully a kick off party mainly centering around there. Its not a perfect venue since there are no plug sockets for laptops (DOH! who designed the place??) and unlike last year I am not in a position to hand out free-refill coffees. But the coffee is good, you can get a lot of stamps on your loyalty cards and get freebies, and you will be surrounded by books to inspire you, mwuhahahhaaaa!
Finally, best of luck everyone! Hope to see you all soon
Bel

YAY! This makes our efforts last year seem all worth while now. Do me a favour and start lining the coffees up on the counter. So were you referring to me when you mentioned an artistic genius? :P

YAY! Two weeks to go and I'm already starting to dislike all the ideas I've scribbled down.

Hurrah to being an Honoury Darloite!
Far better than London when it comes to wrimoing - mainly because Bel roped me into this in the first place so she now gets to suffer my moans and angst and cries of 'why did you convince me to take part in this again?!'
He he.
Downside though is that I can't join you for long writing sessions in Nero's, and sitting in a London branch on me lonesome would be very dull. And I haven't a handy laptop either. Email nagging for me then. sorry, I mean email for motivational words & encouragement!

Hello. *waves a bit nervously*
This is my first NaNoWriMo and seeing as you guys are my nearest group I thought 'what the hell' and decided to join you. I actually live in Hartlepool and work in Durham. So I hope you'll accept me as an honorary Darlington-person.
I'm still not sure if I have done the right thing by signing up to this (especially since I'm travelling to India at the end of the month so I'll need to get it finished a bit earlier than planned), but I figured nothing ventured, nothing gained. I reckon if I try to do at least 2,000 words a day I'll be on track. Anything over that is a bonus.
I hope I'll get to meet you all at some point to share our pain, and keyboard bruised fingers.

Hi Everybody!
This is my first NaNoWriMo, and I only found out about it through my brother having it in his MSN comment.
I live in Willington, which is nearer to Bishop Auckland, but still, this is my nearest group.
I know I'm gonna fail miserably at getting the words written as I'm very disorganised and in Year Eleven, but I'm gonna give it a good shot!
My aim is to write as much as I can be bothered with per day. Erratic, but it works.
----------Anyhow, I wanted to say hello, and suffer no RSI through trying to do this,as I type far, far too much.

Hello to you both, and yes of course you count as honoury darlo-ites!
To Jurgen - it is in my power to give you a letter from Nano HQ explaining what you are doing for your tutors to see - that way if you stagger in to college looking like you haven't slept in a month and haven't done any work, then they will be less inclined to call social services!! let me know if you want a copy!
I hope to see you both at the kick-off, and if not then hopefully sometime during the month of madness,
good luck and enjoy!
