I think I am the only one here in Tohoku, though I think I've roped at least one of my coworkers to try NaNoWriMo this year. If anyone's interested in doing a meetup in Sendai (where I am) or some other easy-and-cheap-to-get-to city in Tohoku, please let me know! I'm free on Sundays and Mondays, and I've got a Saturday or two off in November as well :o)

Actually I'm also in Tohoku.
I'm in Morioka, in Iwate Prefecture. However, I don't know how much free time I'll have in November. I'm an ALT here and unfortunately there are a lot of ALT get together things that I have to attend. Perhaps towards the end of November? It would be difficult for me to travel far.

I as well am in Tohoku. I'm fabulously wealthy and also a tall and handsome lion tamer (amateur), whynot. I refuse to meet with ye lot, my social inferiors, under any circumstances. So there.
You may bow at your leisure, if you have such amidst your proletariat toil.
In any case, I'm in Sendai.

Hey, that sounds like a good idea sometime! I wouldn't mind seeing some autumn leaves up that way on a Sunday or Monday. I have a few days off the 23rd-26th, too; maybe we could do some kind of meetup in Morioka and/or Sendai? I was in Morioka in April, and I seem to remember a fair bit of activity in the station. I'm sure we could hang out there and do some writing. And there are plenty of Starbuckses and spaghetti cafés down this way, too. Let me know what you think.
And that goes for any of you other Tohoku writers, too :o)
NaNoWriMo 2005: This Side of the Atlantic, WON at over 100,000 words, currently being edited (July-October)
NaNoWriMo 2006: Looking for Carmen, WON at 50,001 words; unfinished
NaNoWriMo 2007: Spawn of Satan (tenative title)

Neat! Not only is that thrilling, it is also interesting.
In any case, the start approacheth.

I'm also in Tohoku--South of Sendai. If anyone's interested, I'd love to meet other writers from the area. And yup, I'm an ALT, which means I have weekends off. And luckily I prefer to write with a hangover so Sundays are good for me.

I may sound a bit like a broken record but I am also in Tohoku and also an ALT. Morioka would work for me, I'm fairly close, and later in November I definitely have time.
This is my first NaNoWriMo, and I'm sure I will need a boost closer to the end of the month. Plus I like meeting people who I don't have to struggle to speak to (My Japanese is pretty bad still).

Hey, I'm always happy to meet another ALT! But Morioka is actually quite far from me as I'm a 55 minute train ride South of Sendai in Miyagi prefecture and Morioka is North of Sendai in Iwate. Is there any way you'd be interested in meeting in the middle in Sendai?
And out of curiosity, are you also with Interac? Maybe we already know eachother or have some mutual acquaintances.
Cheers!

Sendai sounds perfect to me, since that's where I live O:-) What about a Sunday, and/or possibly Saturday the 24th? I work Tues-Sat, but I'm free on Sundays, Mondays, and I've also got the 23rd-26th free. I'm sure we could arrange more than one write-in!

Sure, I can do Sendai, I'm always up to travel. Just as long as someone can give me directions I will go anywhere (I have a bad tendency of getting lost).

There are at least three of us up in the Hachinohe area. Sendai's a bit of a trip (an hour by Shinkansen) though, and I'll need all my free time just to catch up on my (already behind) wordcount. Still, when we're all heroes (and winners) I'm absolutely up for a "thank the gods it's over" party.
And back to writing....

I'm in Misawa too! I didn't know there was anyone else up here. Yeah, Sendai is kind of a long train ride away. I don't think I could focus on writing with that much shopping available, maybe for the after party.
I miss the smiley that was drinking a pint of beer. I don't drink beer, but I always want to use that emoticon because it was cute. :)

All right, youse guys (and gals!), I'm ready to make plans for some write-ins in Sendai!
I know that Sendai's far for some of you, but I'd like to extend this offer to anyone in the Tohoku area who can make it. I'd love to meet some of you and talk a little shop and then happily ignore you with my laptop, iPod, and a cup of coffee for a few hours of noveling fun :o)
How about Sunday, November 11th, between 2-5 PM at the Clis Road Starbucks? It's about a 5-10 minute walk from Sendai station. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find a place to plug in laptops in Sendai, but I plan on bringing my laptop (and its 2-hour battery), and then a notebook to write in when it's drained.
I can provide directions from the station to anyone who'd like to come, as well as my phone mail in case anyone gets lost. If it works out, maybe we can do a few more of these before we put together a TGIO party :o)

My old iBook won't last that long but I've been writing mostly by hand so far anyway. So count me in!

Misawa?
Myself and a buddy are up here, too. We also make it to Hachinohe on a regular basis. Can anyone in the Misawa/Hachinohe area suggest good places to write?

I don't have a working laptop and find handwriting a trial (smearing plant juices on dried sheets of plant goop? with a stick? Barbaric.) so I'm pretty inclined to continue writing in a devoted room.
If I were to suggest a get together (GT), I'd suggest Misawa CoCos. The food's mediocre, but they've got the bottomless coffee, tea, cocoa, and soda bar, and you can get a reward parfait!
I think there's a Wifi hotspot there too, but I'm not ept at such things.

Just a reminder: the Sendai write-in at the Clis Road (part of Chuo-dori) Starbucks is still on! Hope to see you there. I left directions in the "Sendai write-in!" thread, but basically:
Go out the west exit on the 2nd floor of Sendai station. Walk across the pedestrian deck to Loft, then around Loft to the right to in front of the Vegas Vegas pachinko parlor, down the stairs. Cross the street (Aoba-dori) to Sakurano, then walk down to the next crosswalk. Make a left, and you'll be under the Clis Road arcade. Walk down the arcade for a few minutes, and Starbucks is next to a watch shop on the right. If you pass Mr. Donut, you've gone too far.
Hope to see you there :o)

Hey folks, sorry I wasn't able to come last Sunday. I also won't be able to come this Sunday as I'll be in Tokyo. Maybe we should have coffee next weekend and debrief--what do you think?

Sounds good, erikat! :o) We could make a "Thank God It's Over" coffee date/lunch date out of it :-)
