Anyone here up for a few write-ins in the Springfield/Burke area? Not sure where, exactly...I know there are some Starbucks nearby, but if there's something better I'd be open to it.

We seem to have a lack of local bars in the area. (I'm sort of new to the area, so if we live in a dry county it's news to me. *grin*)

Here's my deal...if this fits with any of your schedules, please let me know. I've never done a write-in and I'd really like to give it a go.

I work until 4-4:30. I am home by 5:30 or so. I can be somewhere else by 6pm easy.

Anywhere near Springfield and Burke is great for me.

Any takers?

There's a Caribou Coffee in the Kings Park shopping center off of Braddock and Burke Lake, and there's a newish coffee place in University Mall off Braddock and 123 called Saxby's that someone suggested awhile back. I've yet to go to the latter, but I used to frequent the Caribou and they have a big table that would be great for a group. They get pretty busy, though.

I'm not sure what I'd be able to make, as I have a ton of other write-ins that I'm already going to, but if you or someone else makes plans for a Burke/Springfield write-in, I'd be sure to try and come by. Last year there was virtually no one in Burke, so I just went elsewhere, heh, but it would be nice to avoid a long drive.

There's always the Faifax Towne Center Monday meets- http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/1006777 which isn't too terribly far away, as well :)

I'm in Burke and would be up for a write-in or two. I'm available weekday evenings after about 7 (since I work in Bethesda & the commute is murder) and weekends.

I have been in the Saxbys at Braddock/123. They are generally less crowded than Caribou and the coffee is decent. Unfortunately, I don't remember much about the seating areas, etc. (From what I do recall, there aren't any big tables.)

Saxby's doesn't have big tables, but they do have a few smaller ones. I was in there the other day.

That sounds like a fantastic idea to me! There is also a Caribou in Fairfax Corner (which is down the parkway). We could also meet the Starbucks off of Burke Commons Road (in the Giant shopping center). It's pretty dead most of the time.

My schedule is 10am to 4pm (M-F), although that will be changing in the near future.

I'd be up for Caribou or that new place. Let's start with a time and go from there. :) Sound good?

I'm gonna say either Mondays or Wednesdays. Maybe starting at 7 and running for an hour or two? I've never done a write-in, so I'm not sure how long they usually last.

I'm definitely way open to suggestions!

I second ali_marea that we should do Caribou or Saxby on Monday or Wednesday at about 7.
;)

Seriously, let's pick something.

I won't be able to make it if it is going to be on Mon. During that time I will be heading to the Panera in the Faifax Towne Center shopping center for a write-in.
I also might not be able to make it on Wed either, but that depends on when either place closes. I will be working most(or all) Weds and won't get out of work until around 8:30. So I would be showing-up a bit late.

Let's give Wednesdays a try.

How long do these things usually run?

I'm thinking starting at 6 or 7 is good.

We can maybe do an occasional Tuesday or Thursday too.

But how about we start on Wednesday the 7th at Caribou, 6 or 7PM?

Do you know when they close? I will probably be coming late, but if they don't close until late I will be able to make it.

I've never been to a write-in either, but it sounds like fun. I live in Burke and was at Caribou yesterday. Lovely environment.
I don't know when they close, but starting around 6 works well for me since I get off work in Fairfax around 5:30.

I assume I should look for people with laptops. Anyone planning to wear a baseball cap or anything so we can recognize you compared to other people with laptops? :-)

Hope to see you all Wednesday!

EDIT: Just to clarify, it's the Caribou in Kings Park, right? Several Caribou Coffee locations are mentioned in this thread!

DOH! I just realized I can't make it this Wednesday. My Writers' Roundtable group is meeting this Wednesday and I can't skip that (we meet twice a month at Pohick Library- everyone is welcome to join us any time! Send me a message if you have any questions). But if you all decide to meet again next week or on another day, I'm definitely interested.

hope you have a good meetup!

Greetings!

I live just down the way from that Caribou, and could probably make it on Wednesday (11-7-07), but I've just one newbie question. What is a write-in? I'm assuming we all sit in close proximity and write -- to sort of bolster our collective resolve. But, I'm not sure, so I thought I'd ask. :)

I leave work at 6pm and probably wouldn't arrive until about 7pm. Hopefully work doesn't get in the way. I've been writing late nights because regular life just seems to want all of my attention now that I'm trying to write 2k words a day.

Hi, Doug! :) Yep, a write-in is just everyone getting together in one place and writing together. No real talking or anything...until the writing is done and then you can either stay and talk or whatever you want.

Would Thursday be better? We can try Thursday instead...starting at 6pm.

Oh, and yes, the Caribou in King's Park.

If it's Thursday, I'd definitely be available/interested/there! But you don't have to change it just on my account. :-) Whatever works best for you all.

Ok, let's try Thursday, 6pm, Caribou Cafe in King's Park in Burke.

Let's plan for an hour and if it runs longer, that's cool. :)

Looking forward to it!

Oh, I'll be wearing my Yankees cap. Probably the only one in the area, so I should be pretty easily spotted. LOL

Well, I'm still at work and probably won't make it. Please, if you all want to, let's try to do it again. Perhaps I can make the next one.

No worries! I definitely want to do more write-ins. I'm sitting here at Caribou with Kate and this is already a great success as far as I'm concerned. I'm writing and not sitting at home.

One thing I Think we'll try to do next time, is find a location with more power outlets. Of course I don't have my power cord with me, but that's beside the point. ;)

Anyway, maybe next time we can try the new place that was mentioned. (Why do I keep blanking on that name?)

We'll still be here a while. Caribou is open until 10. I won't be that late, I promised I'd be home no later than 8:30. :)

Gahhhh! I could cry. I lost around 3k tonight. I saved before I left Caribou. I got home, turned on the computer, plugged in my external drive...got an error 'data corrupted' then 'data lost'. Noooooo!

All my progress!

That said, great write-in for me! I got to meet Kate, who is totally cool, and I got to write, which I love. I still remember everything I wrote, thankfully, so it won't be very difficult to recreate it. Still, that was a lot of work wasted. :(

Next time we'll meet at the other place. (I do remember that it's in University Mall *grin*) Caribou was nice, but there was a definite lack of power outlets. Wish we had a big Starbucks around here somewhere, but I can't think of any. I hope some of y'all can make it to the next one, it was good motivation!

Oh no!!!!! I'm so sorry you lost so much! That's awful. Though it reminds me I need to back up my work. I hope you'll be able to write it again quickly! Sorry!!!!!

It was great meeting you, too, ali_marea- it was inspiring to have a fellow WriMoer typing away so quickly next to me (and that chair was so big and comfy)! Thanks for suggesting the place/time. I had fun and passed 15,000 tonight thanks to the write-in :-)

There's a Starbucks at Huntsman... but I wouldn't say it's all that large. I'm still eager & willing to try out Saxby's, though, since it's about 30 seconds away from where I work. Tuesdays work really well for me but next Wed or most Thursdays are great, too. I cleared so much of Nov for writing that my schedule is realtively free.

Next Tuesday might actually work fine for me!

Let's make it tentative, with a possibility of switching to Thursday. Saxby's, same time, 6pm. :)

Anyone who wants to come is welcome, y'all!

Way to go on the 15k, Kate! Go you! I was able to catch back up a little bit. Still have 2k to go before I hit what I did last night at Caribou. Frustrating, but it's ok, at least I remember what I wrote. *grin*

I hope I can catch up to at least 12k today. I'm so far behind!

I'm in Kingstowne-but I don' t have a laptop. So I'll just have to "write-in" in spirit.

Too bad-I *love* coffee.

Good luck, all.

If you guys stay at Saxby's on Tues for a while I can join. I won't get off work until 8:30, so I would be there around... 9 at the latest. I'm glad they don't clsoe until 11.
Should I just look for the people with the laptops? Heehee

I definitely plan to be there still at 9. For some reason my ability to write well at home is starting to fade (UH OH!). Or maybe it's just that I feel more productive when I'm not sitting at home watching tv and reading e-mail while I write? Either way, I think I'll be spending more time writing outside the house.

I'll have my laptop and I'll try to remember to wear a green shirt if that helps. Hope to see you there!

Sorry I didn't manage to make it! I got home from work and fell over >.< I'll definitly be coming tomorrow, even if I have to tape my boss to the register so he can't leave too early! Haha. Going to wear anything special tomorrow?

I am so sorry, y'all! I have to reschedule for Thursday. Some stuff came up and I can't get out of it.

I will be there on Thursday, though. No doubt.
