Can anyone tell me how to upload my word doc for word counting purposes?
I looked all around and it seems to be one of the best kept secrets.
Thanks

Unfortunately, the regular word count engine that the site used last year isn't currently up and running - per Chris Baty they'll hopefully be able to bring it up soon once the site traffic diminishes and the servers aren't quite so strained.

For now, though, you can enter your word count (honor system here!) by going in to "Edit Profile" and clicking on the "About Author" section and typing in your word count manually in the box provided.

Not certain how many words you've got? In Microsoft Word, just click on Tools, and one of the menu options that will appear is "Word Count" - I will probably be hitting this handy little option about a zillion times myself this month, just as I did last year!

Good luck and have fun!

Martian Menace

Thanks for your instruction,
I was able to go to tools and find the word count.
it was easy once I knew....

having the write tools for the job is making all the difference.

btw - I love your signature statement, I can relate...

Now for today's query
How do I select Albany as my home region, not just 'among' my regions...?

Martian Menace, in your experience, do the word-count engine and the word counts in MS-Word tend to be fairly close to one another? No major sticker shock in either direction?

They are reasonably close - although Nano's word count auto-calculator last year (not available at the moment) tended to be a tad more generous than Microsoft Word's. As a paranoid newbie my first year out in 2006, I didn't even use the page numbering feature, and made SURE I was at over 50,000 in Microsoft before I felt secure in my victory!

Unfortunately, even the honor-system word count registers in our profiles are down at the moment - curses! - so if we want to keep track of our day to day, it's up to good old pen and paper until Russ gets the system fixed. So my count at the moment is 5,530 but I have no way of updating it on the site myself.

adkim - sorry, realized I didn't answer your other question in that last post - you would normally do that in your "edit profile" feature too, but with Russ working on the system, you may have to wait.

Albany - it's not just a place, it's a state of mind!
