Do any of you use a Pacific Northwest setting for your novel? (I do.)

Not this time, but last time, I wrote in a world where a gate of hell opened up on Portage Island, and a bunch of demonic lawyers work in the Bellingham Towers. I know part of the reason I'm doing it is because I read a book which apparently took place in Whatcom County (in an imaginary small town) and even though I saw the words, "Whatcom County" and "Bellingham" I never would have thought it. I talked to the author and yeah, she'd been there once.
So I thought, dammit, I'm going to make an authentic Bham novel.... with demons. But at least it's full of coffee-swilling protesters.

Yes, and for the time being I'm even calling it Bellingham. A man running on the trail finds himself in Boulevard Park without any memory. I may turn it into a fictitious place later, but it makes the background much easier to write.

I'm trying Port Townsend, although I haven't spend too much time there. I haven't actually written anything yet that identifies the locale, though.

I could always chicken out and make it Bellingham. It's easier that way!

Not for this novel. But I have another one I've been working on that does take place in the area. Combined with the whole marching band dynamic, it's been really fun to write...but has been shelved for the moment as I work on NaNo.

Jack: It's remarkable how often those two traits coincide.

Uh, yeah, never mind. I don't know enough about Port Townsend. Mine's set in Bellingham!

Nope. Mine is set in Norwich, Norfolk, UK. A place I have never been and know nothing about. Yes, it will work out perfectly.

My problem is that parts of California and Seattle are as local for me as Bellingham, and I've been known to mix up things.

LOL

Mine is set primarily in Seattle, though there are other places in the Pacific Northwest that take part in the setting (either in actual scenes, or at least mentioned).

Chicago, Vancouver and Los Angeles have also had brief scenes.

My last NaNo was partly set in BC out on Vancouver Island.

I honestly don't know where this one is set *laughs*. I haven't gotten anyone out of the convent yet. I'll figure that out as time moves along.

Mine starts out in the everglades; then moves to the Grand Canyon. And I've never been to either place. I'm not making it hard on myself, am I? LOL

All my books (except this year's nano) are secretly set in the northwest, even though they're usually in made up towns. The weather and the landscape are the same. ;)

For the second part of this novel I've decided to use different settings in different parts of the Pacific Northwest---the Coast, the Mountains, the Scablands, et al., one for each chapter.

This could get interesting.
