Managed to pass the 40,000 milestone just before midnight.
Now to keep these characters in line and not let them wander off on their own!

WELL DONE KWIKSILVER!!!
I'm hard on your heels. I hope to pass this mark tomorrow . . . maybe even today given the motivation of a last sprint to reach the line before T B Woods. We're racing to 40,000 and I'm scared he might just be acting the part of closet writer and suddenly appear from the mist and streak past me!
Once I get there, I'm going to have to try and catch you.
One step at a time One writer at a time See you further down the track!

YEEEEHAAAAA! I'm there.
Whew! That's been the longest non-stop session. I'm now down-tooling at 40,871 words and going to tackle some other writing tasks that are way behind deadline!
T B Wood, thanks for the spur. You took off like a rocket when I mentioned the word war and made me regret ever opening my keyboard to the suggestion. I really didn't think I stood a chance of catching you. Thanks for the fun.
KwikSilver . . . I'm now declaring a FRIENDLY word war WITH you. :-) I am NOT going mad to try and beat you, but would be happy to buddy run. How about it?
Of course the widgets only update much later . . . but I promise I'm there. :-)
Now to go and stretch my aching back and legs!!!
Have a great writing day you guys.

Well done, SAShirl - you got there!! It's good to have company. :)
Ok, you're on, Shirl - let's race, gently, neck and neck, holding hands, towards the next milestone. 50K here we come!

You're on. :-) And you'll probably have a head-start, as I'm not writing any more on this today. I need to get stuck into other stuff. I have several critiques waiting in the wings, and a number of rewrites to do.
Have a great day!

Yikes! You're gonna be a hard taskmaster, I can see this.
Please may I have some sleep now? I've got a meeting in the morning . . . see you tomorrow afternoon. I'm giving you the day off. :-)
