My novel begins with the focus on a young couple who just got married. They go through all of the trials and tribulations of marriage and then, a few years later, find out that the woman is expecting a baby. Excited, they both start planning for the new arrival. However, the woman has what's called an Incompetent Uterus which is when the uterus can't hold the weight of the baby and goes into premature labor. Going into labor one day, the woman is only seven months pregnant and her husband is at work. After getting a phone call from the woman's best friend, the husband tries to hurry to get to the hospital but ends up in a really bad wreck and dies.

Holding off to tell the woman the horrilbe news, the hospital staff tells the woman that the baby will be fine, but they've discovered that due to the premature labor, the baby's brain hadn't fully formed yet, causing the baby to be a savantistic (an autistic child who is very, very intelligent when it comes to the arts). The baby, who is a girl, has one green eye and one blue eye. The dad had green eyes while the mom had blue.

Would this work for this genre and how could I fully develop this story even more?

HELP!!!!!!

sounds mainstream to me. Could even be considered literary depending on how you write it
how to develop it even more? Start writing. YOu have plenty of basis for a story, now start telling us who these people are, how they became who they are, how they perceive of the word, and how and why they react the events in their life the way they do

Hello. Just curious here about categories.
They completely baffle me.
Yes, of course there is TRUE science fiction,
but so many of my favorite authors (like Terry Pratchett,) are more of an adventure than anything?
What are they?

How about "The Life of Pi?" How is that categorized?

Anyway, I seem to be writing an adventure that has some fantasy elements but is happening right here on this planet.

What would you call that?

(A stretch of the imagination! Hahahaha)

Anyway, if any of you know any of the answers to these questions about how or where to call one's fictional allegiance,
for a crazed, NaNoWriMo fellow voyager,
I would love to hear your comments on this cross-genre/mixed-up genre, category quest for more information.

Thanks!

WOW Jerrittanne ,

you have my interest with just that much - If I may suggest- Check out the book- 'What to Expect When You're Expecting'. This details all the espects of the baby and pregnancy. If I'm not mistaken- I think the brain is developed before 7 months. I could be wrong though. It has been more than 10 years since my own pregnancies.

With developing the story more- It sounds to me like you've got it covered with the trials and tribs of the situation.
Some questions I have-

Will you stay focused on the relationship between mother and daughter?
Will you introduce a new romance for the mother?
And since I personally write in the paranormal slant-
Does the child see/ communicate with her dead father?
