Anyone know what they're writing for the next NaNo?

I do! During the course of writing my novel, easily a dozen prequels have been hammering at the door demanding my attention. The one that most likely will become my next novel is the story of Antigone's embrace; the Theban plays of Sophocles, retold in the World of Darkness.

:Heads to Barnes and Noble to pick up a new copy of the plays: I read them for the first time when I was a freshman in High School, and maybe twice since then. It's been a while!

Congrats to you all on '07, and see you again next year!!!

I never know until the month before. :) Sometimes, not even then! Generally, if I get a story idea, I don't wait a year to write it-- I just do. I usually come up with something specifically FOR nano.

Either I'll write a sequel to this year's NaNo, or I'll write a thriller playing roughly 200 years in the future (lots of work to think it all up and make it sound possible... gnah....) or I'll do a historical crime novel set in about 1850 either in London or in Prussia (lots and lots and lots of research and I'll start Uni next year... uhm...).
So yes, I have ideas, way to many of them and way to little time.

(And then there's still this half-finished thriller on my harddisk whose plot I really like....)

There's nothing to prevent someone from having their own personal NaNo during other parts of the year. Or just start writing on whatever idea you have while it's still fresh in your mind.

I know I won't wait until next November to start on my next novel. Never stop writing. If you need incentive then what about finding a writing buddy for other parts of the year? I've been doing word wars for months with some writing friends of mine. It just went to a new level during NaNo. LOL

Good luck on your next project. May your ideas grow and your words flow.

Well... I think I'll write something funny and weird next year because this year I wrote a serious one and I'd like to try different things. But well.. we'll see.
I don't wait to write either. For example, I have a novel which I had put aside during the NaNo, which must be ended. And then there will come the almighty sequel and more and more and more. Don't stop writing :)

Heylo all and Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! To those who've crossed the finish line, to those who are almost there...and to EVERYONE for even venturing!

I've never posted to anything...ever..in my life! Ha! I've never Nanoed before either...so it's a whole string of firsts.

No idea what I'll write next year, but I'll definately be back. Finishing my nano novel has inspired me to write more consistently and to pull a novel I've been working on for seven years out of the closet, re-read it....and finish it once and for all!

Much Love and Light to you All and may the words flow and flow and flow!!!

First, congratulations to all you purple bar winners!! Yay! I'm a mere 8,000 words away myself.

I do know what I'm going to write for NaNo '08...I'm writing a story about my guild in World of Warcraft. It's something I've been meaning to write (a sort of modified fanfic, I suppose), and I think NaNo will be the perfect opportunity!

I have a couple potentials.
1) WoW fanfiction. Yeah, yeah, I know. But it will at least have some interesting bits. (maybe just interesting to me.) But at the very least, it will be full of OCs, so I guess it's just going to be set in the world, is all....
2) Gay steampunk fantasy. I actually can't wait to get started on this one. BUT I also want to wait on it, just to make it as good as possible. :D
3) Part 1 of my eventual trilogy/series thingy. This is the most likely one, due to my own inability to wait to do the others. I am impatient like woah. But yeah, I have most of the storyline figured out for this one--I've only had the thing running around in my head for 12 years.

All I know is that I want to write original fiction rather than fanfiction next year.

But I have to finish my current fanfic before I will start anything new beyond a short piece.

I've just finished Part One of what will now most likely be a two part novel. If I keep my original ending for the whole thing, I may write a sequel to this one. But who knows? I've still got to write Part Two, edit, etc, etc.

For now, I'm just enjoying being done!

I didn't plan 2003, 2004, 2005, or 2006. Or this year. Why should I break a perfect string like that?

I never plan. I usually don't even know what I'm writing until the last week or so in October, if then. Heck, this year, until I started writing, all I had was a main character and one scene.

If I have a story I want to write, I write it. I don't wait for NaNo to come around. :)

For 2008, I plan to write a novel about a sperm donor, one of his offspring, and what happens when donor wants part in offspring's life over the mother's objections, OR I will write a book 2 with my M/C from my 2004 NaNo novel.

My senior thesis.

Seriously, if I do nano at all next year, it's going to have to be school work. On the plus side, I'm currently thinking of doing my thesis on speculative/dystopic young adult fiction, part of which may be an original work.

I'm thinking of doing a story I have had in mind for a couple years now that started back in an RPG of another site. It will also be in the "Other" genre. I think anyway...I might change my mind come next October though :P

I have MANY ideas for next year already and im not even very close to finishing this year =/.
But it will either be:
1) Harry Potter fanfiction
2) some trippy jap novel
3) a prequel to my current novel that i'm working on
4) a sequel to my current novel

my ideas for other novels/fanfics just keep flowin and yet for this one its not flowing too well lol.

Possible ideas for my next NaNo in the order of likeliness:

1. The novel based on Greek Mythology -- most likely.

2. The high fantasy story that has been eating my brain off and on for the past year or so -- I want to get started on this soon to get it out. I want to start it at the beginning of next year but that may change if I spend too much time with the two unfinished stories I want to complete next year. I will call this less likely.

3. The third book that I have planned for the series I'm currently working on or the first book of one of the two spin off series that I have planned -- not likely. I want to write these in 2009 after I finish the first two books and turn that one novella into a full-length novel.

4. Some other story -- possibly. If I get an idea for one that is so strong I must get it out then I might.

5. Sequel to my current NaNo -- least likely. I really think this should be a stand-alone novel. If I want to revisit these characters than I will do it sometime in the future but not anytime soon.

Right now I'm thinking Confessions of a Soviet Teenage Homosexual Drug Addict. ;D It was a joke one of my RP characters made the other day, and I was thinking, since I could easily spit out 50,000 words on his backstory, I should have done his backstory (sans the fandom I play him in) as my NaNo. I probably won't, but the title alone (said with a snarky grin) kind of makes me want to write it.

based off of the plot bunnies I've recorded on my LJ and some recent ones:

1) Sequel to my NaNo Novel, if I don't get around to it next semester.
2) Autobiography of Ms. Mary Sue ( I could have a field day with this one)
3) A mockery of bad Lord of the Rings fan fiction
4) A Jasper Fforde inspired Novel on what would happen if all the characters in The Iliad took a Holiday through the Text Grand Central Character Exchange Program and in Epic poetry format.

The thing with me was: I knew what I wanted to write about, I just didn't make plans about the story. (This might become problematic next semester in my story writing class.)

You want to know the ideas of a spontaneous writer?

November 1, 2008 seems so far away.
I might have a whole slew of new ideas to pick from. Or maybe I’ll just start writing and hope I can come up with 50,000 words again.
Or the world could end and we could all die. Or maybe I’ll become sick or disabled and no be able to participate.

At this moment, I have nothing planned.

This may be my first year doing it, but I already have had a few ideas since I found out about this at the end of '07's November. For example:

A vampire novel revolving around Dhamphires (1/2 vamps)
A fantasy novel with Ghouls
An Alvin and the Chipmunks novelization
A video game novelization for a Silent Hill, Fatal Frame, or Resident Evil game
A Death Note parody
Numerous fanfic ideas
And a mystery novel that will be a sequel to my series.

My only problem is trying to pick one of them!

If I do it, I will rewrite my 2007 story -- a professional wrestling fanfic.

By November, there will be new faces, wrestlers/managers/valets will no longer be in the companies I have in my story.

Well i didn't have an idea before i started typing for my first nano last year and i finished it.
Maybe i'll plan something out just in case it doesn't come naturally this year so i can fall back on it.

Hmmm, that's only 10 months away.

I try not to plan too much. Maybe I'll do a sequel to my 'Piper Luck' novel, maybe I'll go back to my favorite alien planet... I don't know yet.

I am doing a comedy/adventure/mystery thing next year. This last one I tried a comedy about two bank robbers robbing the same bank on accident and getting stuck in the car together. But, without the chance to bring out a gun when it got boring, I ended up getting into a different story and I didn't finish either story.
So next year, I'm considering doing a comedy about an assassin whose contacts all fall off the grid overnight.

That or I might do the tech/mystery story that's been simmering since December. I don't want to do it because it's too much like some movie I love, but I REALLY want to do it anyways.

Well, my last year nano (under a different screename) didn't go so well. I guess it was because I hadn't made up my mind for what I was going to write - also the inspiration to write just wasn't there. So yeah, this year I hope its different.

What I really want to write this here will probably be a Code Geass fanfic, with the new season coming out it will open a door for me to come up with some sort of plot.

I have lots of ideas (all nicely listed in a word document so I don't forget them). I'll probably write another novel between now and NaNo. I'll pick an idea that's not genius, but really fun to do for NaNoWriMo. I have some ideas for what to do for NaNoWriMo now, but I'm sure I'll come up with lots more before November!

I can't wait 'til NaNo '08!!!!

Well, so far my NaNo '08 will be about a girl who gets swept into different times/places depending on the music that she's listening to. Actually, adopted and adapted from the adopt-a-plot forum.

We'll see if that's still the plan as November gets closer.

Until then, happy writing everyone!

I’m planning a sequel for my Nano as a Julnowrimo 08, then a third part for Nano 08, and then since I refuse to write a trilogy (Everything’s a trilogy lately Why?) I’ll have to come up with an idea for a fourth instalment for Julnowrimo 09

Then again, I think I may be insane for even entertaining the thought.
