I just crossed the halfway mark (25,290 words). Okay, I know it's two weeks late and still another 25K short but I'm still working on it. Anyone else still plugging away?

I am taking a breather. I finished well ahead of time (2nd week of Nov.) with the goal of 50K. But, it took on a life of its own and I just finished page 325 on Friday last. I never finished the novel for Nanwrimo of 2006. So, I decided to work on that since then. This year's Nano hasn't been edited. Somehow, the more I look at it, the less I like it.

I stopped at around 21,000 and completely stalled. The cheer-up, write garbage to make your word goal message I got from my region leader completely froze me from being able to continue on. I've got some vacation time coming in two weeks and I'm planning to spend some of it taking another look at the story without straining for a word count.

I reached my goal a day early, but I'm only 2/3 of the way through -- and it's only the first part of three. I've pretty much been forced to stop working on it until this hellish semester comes to an end, and I'm not sure if I should just finish first or edit what I have so far.... there's so much research that I still have to do, and I know that most details on police procedure and the way the cases have gone will have to be changed or re-written completely....

I'm on re-write #2 of the original Nano with considerable changes. The second generation went over 80,000 words and i have re-written just over 50,000. I took a novel writing class over the winter, learned about the "snare" the "rollercoaster" and the "payoff." I am trying to show, rather than tell wherever possible and to let the characters bring forth the story. It's a hell of a lot of work. If I ever get this thing published (not really the goal, but it's fun to think about) I bet my hourly wage for writing will be under 10 bucks an hour.
But I've already started an outline for book #2, plan to kick it off in November. In October I'll be attending the SEAK writing course for physicians, featuring Tess Gerritensen and Michael Palmer.

I'm trying to finish my last NaNo. I got the 50,000 but obviously that's not an entire novel. I also want to go back and finish the previous year's unfinished novel. I've been reading books on writing in general as well as writing mysteries.
