I'm inclined not to risk 3B's again after last time - WheelchairPrincess mentioned Yates's across the road, but she's got another committment and probably won't be able to make it. So, I'm wondering whether we shouldn't just aim for the Monk's Retreat again, i.e. where we ended up, but make it official this time.

Anybody have any better ideas? In any event, I will be somewhere around central Reading come Saturday. Wearing the Shirt and everything. So either we have a meeting, or I just go around frightening small children. Which shall it be?

How does your literary journey begin? Mine starts:

There was a rasping blare of noise from the speakers, and the image on the big screen became a pixellated blur and then went blank.

Okay, it's not exactly Hemingway, but it's more or less coherent and doesn't involve vomiting.

Things You Might Want To Put In Your Novel (dares, challenges, etc.)

Arising out of discussions at some of the meetings.

Keeping up with immemorial tradition as established last year, my novel features unsafe tricycle riding. Does your novel feature unsafe tricycle riding? If not, why not?

Are there any other things which you think should feature in my novel? Or your novel? Or somebody else's novel? (NB. requests to me for "multi-coloured vicars" or "please, Steve, could we possibly have less vomiting in this one?" may not be treated entirely sympathetically.)

For anyone who missed last Saturday's, but can make this Saturday ... Same place, same time, same awful yellow shirt.

But this time, I will be typing. Probably on the Economy Laptop, and if you haven't yet seen the Economy Laptop in operation, you really should, it is worth the trip all by itself.

The next Saturday, there will probably be a meeting of sorts somewhere in Reading, too - that's the plan, at any rate. I wrote it all down in Dubaiyan's notebook, I did, really, I did ... of course, I wrote it in my handwriting, which has been described by impartial observers as "some sort of strange runic script". So it goes.

Nano snacks that make you a better writer?

Hi All,

I was glancing at the Nano snacks thread on the main forum, and it got me thinking. Do any of you experienced Nano'ers have any advice on snacks to stock up on that boost your brain for Nano (either theoretically or according to old wives tales)?

I'm thinking along the lines of the old wives tale that carrots help you see in the dark...

Getting Ideas from Places You Probably Shouldn't

I just spent an hour an a half on the phone to a friend... we haven't spoken in a year or so and things have not been good for them... and even as I was there talking about that with them all I could think was "ooooh that could be good for several thousand words in the NaNo novel" I am such a bad friend, she's talking about major life changing crises and I'm like "plot ideas, must remember this..."

Go on, tell me, where's the worse place you've gotten inspiration from (and come to that, where's the best)
