Weds 19th Nov Write-In

Starting the topic early. For those who don't know, Wednesday write-in information:

Place: Kro, Picadilly, Manchester (Near Picadilly bus station)
Time: 6pm start, though some people (such as myself) turn up earlier. Usually goes on 'til 8.
Bring: Laptop/Pen & Paper for writing, and a bit of money for drinks or food.

So who's coming this week? I'll be there as usual, probably with --kao--.

How's the first week been?

Hey! Just wanted to see how everyone's doing. As I'm sure you can see, I've been doing quite well for myself this first week. It might have helped that I had the week off, so I had nothing to do but sit around the house all day ;P But how's everyone else been coping? Especially those of you that have had to go in for work and school? Has it been hard finding time to write?

I ask because next week I'm going back to Uni and I'll be in class all the time. I wonder if my pace will change then? Will I lose my inspiration?

How's everyone else managing to remain inspired? Rewards? Willpower? Something else?

I like to think of it as a race. I've got all these other people out there trying to reach 50,000 (although I've now set my goal at 100,000...I must be crazy!) and if I can get there before them, well, then that means I've won with plenty of time to spare, right? If I see any of my buddies start posting high numbers of word counts, I sit down and decimate my keyboard some more (and believe me when I say my poor keyboard has seen better days...and I've only had this laptop a year...).

Plus. My friends are betting on me losing and owing them money. Nothing like a little friendly "help" to keep you motivated!

Well, I'd best get back to typing (and maybe do a bit of studying?), and I hope I'll see some of the Manchester Wrimos at the write-in on Wednesday, because I'm going to try my hardest to be there :]

Hey everyone! I got the first thread of the year YAY! Ahem. By pure chance that I checked the site early but still...

I know I'm not the ML or anything but I thought I'd welcome everyone and say hi :) give a bit of an introduction - you know the drill.

So I'm Suzanne *wave* I'm 21 (22) in November and I live in Salford. I'm a 6 year veteran of NaNoWriMo and 5 times winner. The only draft I've ever tried to edit afterwards is my 2006 effort which gets poked at every couple of months. I started out as a Manchester Wrimo back in 2003 but then I switched to a Lancaster Wrimo in 2005 when I went to university. I've now graduated and have moved back in with my parents (sarcastic "woo") so I'm back in Manchester!

Last year in Lancaster we had an amazing ML and had weekly write-ins which were incredibly helpful and fun to everyone who showed up so I'm hoping that gets replicated in Manchester. We even had a TGIO party at a chinese restuarant - the first TGIO I'd ever gone to and it was good fun!

What else can I babble on about....well...aside from writing, I enjoy photography (my baby's are my Canon EOS 400D Digital SLR and my Canon EOS 300D 35mm SLR), going to the cinema, wanting more money so I can buy Nightmare Before Christmas merchandise, reading (obviously), ebaying, chocolate (self-confessed addict) and dreaming of the day I can finally move out down south and try and get a publishing intership in London.

I'll be quiet now ;) if anyone's from Salford or nearby, give me a shout :)

Hi i was just wondering how many students are doing nano this year? It's my first year and I'm so excited but I have to read like 3 books per week (English course - woop!) so don't know how much writing i can get done. I hope I can get to the 50k mark just to prove to myself I can do it! I always stop after chapter 3 and start something new!

So anyway, just wondering how many students are participating. I was in a lecture the other day and (especially since i do english) was thinking if anyone is doing nano?

My husband's stepfather died a few days ago, so most of this week has been nothing but dashing about getting him on a flight to Australia. The next couple of weeks are going to be disrupted too.

So I trust you'll understand that NaNo, being the least important thing on my to-do list, is going to have to fall by the wayside.

Word War with: United States: Missouri: St. Louis Regional Forum!

We have been invitied to take part in a region to region word war with the United States :: Missouri :: St. Louis regional forum. I think this is a great idea and will give us a damn good reason to flex our writing muscles and kick their American asses ;)

How do you sign up? Easy. Make sure your home region is set to "Europe: England: Manchester" and you're automatically adding to the word count of the region! It's that simple.

If you want a lovely display of how we're kicking their asses then please paste the link below into your signiture (remove the * first). At the moment is looks nothing more than a blank widget but hopefully come November, that'll all change and we'll be able to see the two regional word counts competing.

I'm in stoke and I couldn't find a stoke/staffordshire region so I've joined both Manchester and Birmingham (we're in the middle!)

Is there any point in creating a Staffordshire region? and how would this be done?

I've never tried a word war before ... in fact i didn't even know what one was until today when i read on other forums... But considering i have tomorrow off work, and am going away tomorrow night for the weekend, i need to a) catch up as i'm currently behind and b) get ahead as i won't get a chance to write this weekend... so if anyone would like a bit of a word war tomorrow, let me know ... i could do with a booster!!

I don't know how these things work but there's a post on the west midlands board entitled ' Come on - Manchester are winning'
Obviously they feel threatened by us :)

Might be good to sort out a word war if anyone knows how? We have pretty much the same number of people (and we're already beating them! lol)

I turned up at Kro on Saturday - I sat out side by the steel ball ornament some workmen were erecting from 1.50 to 2.15 I was wearing this years T-shirt so i wasn't too keen on wandering into Kro since we were banned. I wandered into KRO at 2.15 saw no one I recognised so dissappeard - as we all agreed - to weatherspoons in Deansgate - wandered all over the place but there seemed to be no evidence of writers notebooks or laptops - lots of Poppy sellers though.

Sat there until 4.00 and then running out of money went home.

What Are You Writing This Year?

I thought I'd start the annual ice-breaker topic to start us all off with.

So this year I'm hoping to pry myself away from the Fantasy worlds of my imagination and write about something fantastic in this world. I got a sort of feeling towards the end of last NaNoWriMo that the reason I created my own worlds to put stories into was purely because it was easier than shaping my story around the world as we know it, so this year I plan to put in the research into my novel and try and create something that I'd rather enjoy reading myself.

My (incredibly vague) plot so far is going to be about a man who is naturally adept at bending people to his will without them being aware of it. Using subtlety and charisma he's got everything he's wanted in the world, but then (something i haven't decided yet) happens. and he has to use his skills to the fullest to get out of this situation (possibly unharmed.)

As you can tell, it's in a really rough draft so far, but one of the Joys of NaNo is that I've not created my dilemma by the start of it I'm sure it will develop on it's own eventually.

So there's my plot so far

Weekly Write-Ins [TIME AND PLACE]

Hey everyone!

Okay so I originally was going to wait until Friday to put up the most popular day and time for the write-ins. But I'm busy tomorrow, then I'm working tomorrow night and I'm away Friday through Sunday so yeah, this is easier if I put it up now.

So information:

Day: Wednesday
Time: 6:00 - 8:00pm
Place: Kro, Piccadilly [map: http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y122/solitarysecrets/KroMap.jpg ]

Unfortunately, due to us not having an ML there won't be any stickers or fun things sent from the Head Office for us this year. But I'm sure we'll manage without stickers ;) I realise that not everyone can make it on Wednesdays or between these times. But taking all the comments from the other thread, this day and time tallied at 9 votes, which was the highest any day and hour got. However, this doesn't prevent anyone from arranging further write-ins throughout the week, or even at the weekend!

Wednesday night is good for me because it's my day off. So (unless something goes wrong between now and next week) I should be able to attend the first write-in to meet everyone. If anyone wants to be met somewhere other than at Kro, please let me know so it can be arranged.

Any problems, or concerns, let me know :)

As we near the end of day one, how's everyone finding it? As I type this I'm on 1,940 words, which is still 1,394 words away from my daily minimum of 3,334. I don't know if I'll hit it today but I should easily be able to catch up tomorrow.

Having trouble with the beginning of my story though. I'm dying to just jump into the good parts and I'm having trouble pacing myself but I'm hoping to settle into it over the next couple of days.

Annoyingly my work has decided to bump me upto 40 hours a week starting tomorrow... sucky timing.

Just about 6 hours until midnight. Is everybody ready?

I personally am not. I've been struggling to think of an opening line all day and no inspiration's coming! If I can't think of anything soon it's going to be "It was a dark and stormy night" even though it isn't dark or stormy or in any way relevant to my novel! Thankfully though I have planned out most of the rest of the novel which probably won't help me tonight when I'm staring at a blank computer screen.

So anyway, I thought I would check in and see how everyone else is doing?
