Hey, everyone! So, this is it. We're all halfway through NaNoWriMo. There are fifteen days left to write, write, write!

Anyway- I was just wondering where everyone was in their novel and maybe some interesting things that have happened in your novel or because of your novel. Anyone got something to share?

ML Appreciation Day!

I just wanted to take a little time to have a shoutout to the two ML's, loveandviolets and Anthropo. Thanks so much for volunteering your time and efforts to set up write in's and everything else a ML's job entails! You two are awesome. I thought I'd just set up this thread instead of a Nanomail so that everyone else could say thanks, too.

V for Vendetta movie-showing slash write-in

Last minute, yes, but amazing none the less.

Jess N. (who was kind enough to host our midnight write-in, which was amAzing) is nice enough to offer her apartment (and her projection screen) for a November 5th V-for-Vendetta write-in/event. I suspect very little writing will be done, as the movie tends to hold viewers spellbound, but for those of us with a strong will or with suspense/action novels, the backdrop will work well. Movie starts at 9pm tomorrow, and is at the same location as the midnight kickoff. If you would like the address, PM anthropo or myself, as I doubt Jess wants her address posted on the internet.

Midnight kickoff!

We'll be meeting up at 10:30PM on October 31st to wait with our laptops and kick off NaNoWriMo on the stroke of midnight. Come on out and get ready to write like crazy! We'll wrap up around 2:00AM.

Jess has very kindly offered us her apartment for our kickoff, so please be sure to thank her for it. If you can, bring some fun snacks, and we'll have some time to munch and chat and talk novels before we start writing. There's a Starbucks just 'round the corner, and Espresso Royale not far from there, so we can get all the coffee we want beforehand.

Directions from Jess:
"I live at 131 E. Broad Street. It's the tall (9 story tall) white building across from Moore college. It's the same building that has Eat Hibachi, Level and Taste of India. The entrance on the side of the building. Walk into the parking lot between Eat Hibachi and the Mexican restaurant and it's to the left. There is a set of double glass doors and a call box. Press 284 or find my name Neill, Jessica and hit call, I'll let you in. The elevator will automatically call when I let you in.

The building is basically at the corner of Broad and Lumpkin downtown.

I live in apartment 801. My phone number is seven-oh-six, two-four-seven, oh-three-four-one, feel free to have them call me if they get lost."

Meet-up for November 1st

Okay, the great news about NaNo this year is that it begins on a weekend. I haven't been able to do the 'traditional' start-at-the-stroke-of-midnight thing because of school/work. So with that in mind, here are a few places that keep late hours, in the Athens area, that I think would be good for meet-ups:

Espresso Royale on Broad is open until midnight every day of the week
the pub in Walker's Coffee Shop & Pub, on College, opens at 9 pm
Allgood Lounge, on Clayton, although I haven't been, looks cozy and they're open until 2am monday thru saturday
Jittery Joe's, which I seem to remember being by the multimodal transport center, is open 24 hours--I *think*

and my personal favorite, because I love crepes,
Pauley's Original Crepe Bar on east clayton, which is open until 3 am tuesday thru saturday.

Then there are several on-campus locations, but unfortunately most are closed for fall break (slc, library, etc).

If people can let me know which of these is most convenient for them, we *must* try to get a group write-in for the 1st, at least. There is strength in numbers. :)

Hey! I thought that I'd introduce myself. This is my first semester at UGA. I'm a transfer student. But this is like my fourth or fifth time at NaNo. I've finished once, but I try hard every time! I look forward to meeting up with fellow NaNo-ers. I'll be out of town opening weekend but after that I'm game.

First Meet'n'Greet

We'll be doing an initial Meet'n'Greet/Info Session this Sunday. This'll be a good opportunity for us all to meet up, to get a sense of the size of the group we have, and to get info out to the newbies started NaNoWriMo this year.

It'll be in the cafe of the UGA Library at 320 S Jackson street at 2:00 Sunday afternoon. For our kick-off and our later write-ins we're gonna go for cooler coffeeshops, but since we don't know yet what sort of numbers we oughtta expect, we're pulling the biggest place we possibly can.
