lets get this party started right, nanowrimo-fied.

let's see if you can't get everyone to at least visit the forums. I am disappointed in this year's lack of participation. I don't have anyone's emails and the few people i know from last year either moved or is in college or just not doing it. I need participation. I am an extrovert, i derive my energy from those around me, thus making word wars much more efficient than sitting at home at my computer for 6 hours at a time to get 2300 words.

I actually have a day off work, so if i can get at least TWO people to come along, i will host an unofficial write-in at my work at Border's in plantation! (sawgrass). I am expecting at least two, so if no one says anything i am going to be very disappointed and assume everyone has quit nano. Get to me asap.

An unofficial word count challenge from the Palm Beach County region

Hey folks,

Greetings from the Palm Beach County region. What would you guys say to a friendly word count competition ("word war" sounds so violent, you know?) between our two regions? I thought maybe it would give both of our regions' members that little extra motivation we might need to make our word count goals every day.

It ought to be a pretty even matchup; at the moment we have 44 members and you have 47:

If you guys like the idea, I'll start a new topic with the region war widget (shows no data at the moment, but I guess it will be active starting in November) that will show our progress and yours.

By the way I'm still trying to drum up some support for this idea in my region's forum; so far yours is a bit more active - I've only had one response to my suggestion, and our ML hasn't spoken up yet, so at this point you guys probably have the advantage - but I'm optimistic that I can get the Palm Beach County folks to step up to the challenge.

So what do you say - shall we give it a shot?

Let's talk Stories

We have so many threads about word count challenges, and write-ins and such, how about we talk about the purpose of this whole chaotic mess! Tell us something about your story that cannot be gleaned from your synopsis or excerpt. Or share with us a story about your writing in general. Let's talk about our novels and the experience instead of the challenges.

For example, my first night was, thus far my most productive. I have been more steady now, but I'm behind. I am constantly considering HOW I can bolster my word count while I write. I go into way to much detail about what my characters look like and what the surroundings are like. Right now, none of my characters KNOW each other (well a few have met a few others and one knows all of them) but write now, I write the scenes on a character by character basis. I'm looking forward to the worlds they are creating to merge and for my characters to actually start traveling in groups of two or three. Lord knows it's tedious describing what each of them do, it starts to get somewhat repetitive.

Kick-Off Party

It doesn't look like we have an official kick of party set up. As I said in a previous post, I do work at a Chili's and if we are willing to meet up at the Chili's I work at, I can get something that vaguely resembles a discount. Additionally, Chili's has delicious Margarita's and 2 for 1 drinks (this only applies to those who are 21+ obviously). I'd be up for doing a little kick off party there on Sunday (Oct 26) or next Thursday (Oct 30). If anyone is interested just reply and let me know and we can see about getting this organized. And if people don't want Chili's I say we do a meet and greet at a Barnes and Noble or Border's prior to the official start of NaNoWriMo. Reply here or PM me I guess. Looking forward to meeting my fellow Locals!

Hey everyone,

Claire here, your faithful 2007 NaNoWriMO ML... unfortunately, due to various circumstances, I left Fort Lauderdale a few months ago, and moved, first, to California, and am now in Virginia. It's been a busy few months. But, because I won't be in Broward this year, that leaves you all without an ML. Anyone interested in stepping up? It's definitely not as scary as it may seem, and I'm happy to help out any new MLs in any way I can.

Anyhoo... if you're interested, just reply here to let people know you're taking up the mantle, and then head on over to http://www.nanowrimo.org/prospectiveml to apply to be the Fort Lauderdale ML.

I would have loved to go out and do the Write-A-Thon in California but school and work just don't permit. However, I'd love for the region to be represented and I'm willing to help contribute towards the raising for the monies. If anyone is interested in representing Ft. Launderdale at the Write-A-Thon or already intending on attending and needs just a little more of the $200 reply here. I'd love it if the whole community helped send someone. Anywho, 5 days!

Hello Wrimos,

I have been granted ML powers for Ft. Lauderdale. I live in Miami, but since Claire, your former ML, moved away I offered to help out. I am currently a co-ML for Miami. This is my second year as an ML and third year participating in Nanawrimo.
We will be meeting in Plantation on Saturdays. I invite you to set up writing events during the week and in other locations. The wonderful thing about Nanowrimo is the opportunity to meet other writers.

I encourage all of you to checkout the message boards on the Nanowrimo site, and the Fort Lauderdale (and possibly the Miami) Forum. On the message boards you will find help, support and other people lamenting the same things as you.

Ok, so now I’ll tell you what we have scheduled.

On Saturday, November 1st we will be meeting at the following location:

Sunday November 2nd
2 to 4 pm, Alvin Sherman Library. 3100 Ray Ferrero Jr. Blvd is the
