Hey all - I'm looking for info on what a lowly worker would be doing on an oil rig around 1900-1910. I have absolutely no knowledge of oil rigs at all, it being difficult to find info on their exact workings at the turn of the last century, or what the workers did on them. If anyone has even had any experience on modern rigs, it would be a big help.
Thanks!

Hi. I searched with the phrase "working on oil rig" and found this website which has oil rig info (only modern era, I guess): http://www.oil-rig-job.com/rig-types.html. From the list on the left, choose Oil Industry. Many links that may prove interesting to you. Here's one called How to Get a Good Job Working on an Offshore Oil Drilling Rig http://www.ehow.com/how_2269630_working-offshore-oil-drilling-rig.html.
For a timeline of History of Oil Industry http://www.sjgs.com/history.html. General info on the industry: http://www.oilworker.co.uk/companies.html.
Try more searches on the Internet. Good luck!
