Yes, being a teen, I've never been to one.

Usually, in American schools (specifically NYC), how long after graduation before the school hosts a high school reunion?

Oh, and by high school/college, I mean from 11-17 aged schools.

Thanks!

most reunions start at 5 years and then go from there. nowadays, the school usually doesn't organize the reunions, but members of that graduating class. i know for my 10 year reunion our senior class president had organized it. i received a form to update my personal info and to rsvp to the event. at the reunion we were given a small directory of everyone in our class - names, addresses, phone, email, and a small blip about ourselves...what we were doing, any professional accomplishments, etc.

that was my experience...i live in PA in the suburbs of Philadelphia.

hope this helps.

I've had a similar high school reunion experience with the president of the class (a student, not a faculty member) contacting members of the graduating class after 5 years. I went to my 10 year reunion, but they either lost touch with me or didn't want me back (grins).

I never had a reunion with my college graduating class. For one, I went to a large state university. My close friends were not necessarily people in my class. Also, because of the curriculum for my particular degree, it took me an extra quarter to graduate, so I graduated in September rather than June.

People who attend a small, private college might have had a different experience and may in fact get together every 5-10 years for a reunion. I have no idea.

Peace out,

Either 5 or 10 years would be common.

While normally the reunions are organized by the students, I would imagine that some private schools might participate or facilitate the process.

My high school didn't organize one until 10 years. There was no 5 year. It wasn't big, either. :) Not a whole lot of us, truth be told... the school doesn't host, either (especially since my high school doesn't exist anymore), the officers of the graduating class do. Traditionally the class president, but occasionally other officers if the president can't/won't organize it.

Ours skipped the 5 year and went for the 10 year. And we had two very small separate ones ... apparently the class officers disagreed on what would be appropriate (it ended up being family friendly vs. NOT family friendly) and then they wouldn't share address lists with each other ... so half of us were invited to one, and half to the other. Sheesh.

We're due for a 15th soon but I bet it doesn't happen. LOL.

For college ... I too went to a large university so have not been to a reunion for that graduating class. I could see folks from the same college (Liberal Arts, Engineering, etc) maybe hosting one, but they haven't. One of the campus groups I was active in did have a reunion, though, and I went to that. It was a blast. I think that was about 5 years. I imagine we'll continue to do that, as many of the group still keep in touch and cross paths, and I still see some of them so I'm likely to hear about it when it happens (unlike the high school one).

I'm not sure how long but I'm also a teen... my school is very big on alumnae (it's all-girls) and I remember that on a recent reunion weekend (it wasn't a specific class reunion, but lots of alumnae in general) there were a lot of women who looked awfully young - maybe mid-twenties? So my guess is five to ten years would be the first one; maybe five because they'd be just out of college...

Here is Quebec its 10 years... mostly because our school system has at least 5 years more of school to even graduate in a field. So 5 more years after that to make something of yourself!

Cheers,

If you want students that were 11-17 while in school, those are usually called Middle/Junior High Schools and High Schools in the US. College is usually used for after that - bachelor's degrees and associate degrees are gained at college.

My high school reunion is run through an association of former students (the Alumni Association). They get together every year and all the alumni of the high school are invited to attend. The invitation used to start coming after five years, but they wait until 10 years now. Also, very often classes that are about to reach a milestone year (10 years, 25 years, etc.) will have a separate event on the same weekend and attend the Alumni Dinner/High School Reunion at the same time. Those are organized by the class officers or anyone who decides - let's get this together!
