San Francisco Kickoff!

Hi everyone,

We have heard from HQ that there won't be a pan-bay kickoff this year... so it falls to San Francisco to come up with our own.

Anybody got ideas for a place and time to gather? I'd expect a crowd of 25 if we get the right time, and 5000 if we hand out gas cards. I don't have gas cards, so we get off easy this time.

Welcome to San Francisco--The introduction thread

Hi everyone,

Here's a great place for you early birds (and late birds) to come in and introduce yourself to the San Francisco writers all around you. Mention your neighborhood(s), how long you've been in Nanowrimo, and anything else interesting.

As a reminder, the regional forums are all-ages, so keep it clean. :)

To start it off, I'm Rob, Gallifreyan in nanoland... 7th year Nano participant, 4th year(?) SF Municipal Liaison, and 9-time Bay Area Writing Retreat coordinator. I actually live outside the City these days but work in Potrero Hill, and hope to have time to fix that living situation soon.

Showing up soon on the scene will be calendula-witch, a.k.a. Shannon, my co-ML for the second year. Watch for her nifty neon ML tee shirt too.

Write-Ins for November 2008 -- where? when? who?

Here's a thread for everyone to scout out write-in locations in their neighborhoods.

To be an unofficial ambassador, pick a place and a time, announce it here, and show up. We'll get you the little table-tents to identify yourself as a Nano person, if you don't have the tee shirts and such... or even if you do.

If you find a place, and you want to volunteer to be the ambassador, please mention it here and then talk to the management to make sure they're okay with a dozen laptop-toting writers coming in, spending copious amounts of time and money (remember to thank our hosts with your wallets whenever possible), and drawing stares from their regulars. Be sure to check hours, since some places like to close before we like to close our laptops.

In the past we've done Crossroads Cafe in Soma, Royal Ground at 17th and Geary, some places at the end of the N Judah and 16th and Church that I can't remember the names for, Brickhouse in Soma (which has become a bit harder to gather in as I recall from last year), and so forth.
