We will be doing the TGIO at Don Pablo's this year, per the excellent suggestion of PaulB. :)

It is IMPERATIVE that you RSVP for this prior to the day of the TGIO since this will be at a restaurant. I'm going to make reservations and ask for a table to fit the "YES" RSVPs, so do not not not not not give me a "maybe" RSVP. Just reply once you know if you're coming, and do so before the weekend of TGIO, or I can't guarantee I'll see your RSVP and account for you.

Everyone is welcome at the TGIO, even if you've come away from November without a completed novel. Come and help us congratulate the winners!

What no editing?

Right now the hardest part of all this is to control my inner editor. The last novel I wrote I edited as I wrote and I edited each chapter individually as i went. Then had an outside source prrofread each chapter as I went. This is so far out of my norm that I am going crazy. I just want to spend a day and tear my work apart and make it better. But for now I will smoke a pipe and forget about all my weak sentences and confusing phrases. But by God in December the red ink will fly.

2000 words in a day

YOu know this may be common knowldege, but being a newbie I have not read it yet. Anyway, I was doing some claculations and it seems that you only need 2000 words written in a single day and you will well exceed the goal. Using this as a guidline you will see that it even allows for a cuple days of not writing (1 a week plus 1) for planning as you go. Just a thought to make this daunting task not so daunting.

Taking This Virgin Voyage

I don't know what it was that led me to this NaNoWriMo Site -- fate, destiny, boredom, compulsion. Perhaps a muse had something to do with my finding that such a group, such an event, such an opportunity exists. For years I have had many stories, characters, plots, and dialogues floating around in my head, and I am one of those who constantly says, "I should write a book." But so far all I have are boxes of sporadic notes and jotted ideas for this and that, and planners with penned goals of "start my novel" month after month. I do have some outlines somewhere, and more journals than I care to admit, but these are trapped in boxes between CT and OH, and would definitely take longer than one month to locate and exhume. So today I joined this site and decided to do my very best to write some kind of novel during the month of November. I have undertaken many assignments in my life and some with very demanding deadlines (I used to work in marketing and advertising), so I am not trembling too much as I begin this new endeavor...my virgin voyage, if you will...since I have never done anything like this. What I truly love is that I have nearly a month to mull things over in my mind before the manic typing actually begins. This is great for me since I enjoy playing out scenes and outlining characters in my imagination. The challenge for me will be to have them come to life on the page in ways that express how I see them without me telling the audience all the little details about them. Can I do this as a novice? Can I create something that will be meaningful to those who read it? Can I adhere to the stipulations and achieve 50,000 words in 30 days? Now I am trembling like any virgin who has agreed to consummate her promise!

Barriers

It has nothing to do with how many times you win or lose. It has no relation to where you finish in a race or whether you break world records. But it does have everything to do with having the vision to dream, the courage to recover from adversity, and the determination never to be shifted from your goals."

So, let me ask you, what barriers have you placed in front of yourself this November?

For me, the big two are definitely my youth group and swim practice. Swimming was a mild problem last year, but once my team found out of NaNo, they kept encouraging which was great for me. Youth group, however, takes up more time now than it did last year. Between band practices, running the youth groups website, and teaching people to take over my duties once swim season starts, I really do not want to think about it...

Last year, I had this amazing second period study hall I used to type (I cannot stand putting homework off until the day it is due), which I do not have this year. However, I am part-time at one of the Kent branches, so I have more free time between classes. A more than fair trade, in my opinion.

New to NaNo, but not to writing.

Hello, I am a member of Writing.com and have been for two years. Of course this doesn't mean I know how to write a perfect novel, I've been chewing on several for some time.
My foremost fascination is SciFi, Fantasy and Horror novels and I have plenty of my own under way.
But here I am going to try something brand new, it would fit with Fantasy I suppose, but I expect it to be a little dry at the beginning. It should pick up steam after a little while and I hope it will be a lot of fun.
I am new to NaNo and the Canton area is my home.
So, I hope to hear from many of you soon.
I have put off Nano for two years thinking I was never good enough and my time has always been limited. What the heck, you only live once, so I went for it.
Glad to be part of a great group of authors.

OT: Looking for some help (animal adoption)

Early this past spring, we had a young cat, barely older than a kitten, come wandering by. He was really scrawny and scraggly and since then we've been feeding him a couple times a day. He's now quite healthy looking and not at all mean or viscous and we suspect he was abandoned, maybe by some people who moved out recently?

Stray Kitty can't stay with us (we already have two cats and my father said "Hell no") so I'm trying to find him a home before the snow comes. I really don't want to take him to a shelter where he probably won't be adopted.

Stray Kitty is very, very sweet and curious with the sweetest, softest little meow. He seems to be a calico, I think. He's white and his back and tail are a combo of brown and gray with leopard spots on his back and stripes on his tail. On the back of each leg is a dark gray/brown smudge of color. He has a sweet, sad face and a bit of a hurt ear (we think he was in a fight). He doesn't have mites and isn't shedding.

I'm hoping to find him a warm, loving home and he seems to be perfectly okay with other cats (albeit hesitant and timid). I will pay for his shots and everything.

If you or anyone you know are interested, PLEASE LET ME KNOW AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! It's cold at night and I really don't want him to have to suffer through the snow.

I'm in Twinsburg, about an hour outside of Cleveland and not afraid of driving to meet up.

REGIONAL INFO & FAQ

- The Canton region used to be connected with the Akron region, but isn't any longer, so please choose the region that is more distance-appropriate for you. I (your ML) will not be planning any events outside of Canton. If you live midway or would like to participate in events for both the Canton and Akron region, please feel free! :)

- Write-ins are for people participating in Nanowrimo only. Do not bring friends/family/babies, and do not come if you're working on your own "version" of Nano (i.e., nonfiction, an autobiography, work that isn't new, editing, etc.). These meetings are for all of us to get together and really get some writing done for this specific event, so come prepared to write and also come prepare to be shushed if you are disruptive during word wars or any other period where we are all supposed to be writing.

- Weekly meetups are on the weekend and are more informal. Usually we will gab and eat and generally just hang out for the first half of the weekly meetup and then the second half will consist of a write-in. It's still asked that only Nanowrimo participants attend, especially for the second half, when we'll all be writing.

- We like to have fun for Nanowrimo. If your behavior or attitude doesn't jive with a fun environment and you're looking for a group of serious, accomplished, renowned authors, please skitter off to a local writers group. Some of us may have goals of being published or may be published, but November is about having fun and maybe coming out of the event with a rough draft or just a really absurd story that we had a blast writing. No turning up noses at the quality of writing or the accomplishments of other group members, unless you're prepared to be pummeled with Panera bagels and bread bowls.

- Goody bags are not a guarantee for the kickoff and your regional ML is not required to provide them (not to mention the cost of said goody bags comes from the ML's personal funds), so complaining about what is inside your goody bag is in quite poor taste. Please, no complaining about goodies or prizes, and donating items to be put in the goody bags is VERY welcome and appreciated. Please contact me (Brandice) well in advance of the actual kickoff if you want your donations to go in the goody bags (and bring said goodies to a pre-Nano meetup for me to pick up).

- Do you want to host a write-in? Please let me know if you'd like a write-in on an evening that I don't have one scheduled. If you can guarantee that you will be there, I will be happy to put more write-ins on the schedule. They simply have to be located in Canton and you must be there as the planner.

- We have a Regional Map, which lists all of the possible locations for us to meet. Any official meeting on the regional calendar will be located at one of the locations on the list, and if anyone suggests new locations, they can be easily added and accessible. If you're unsure about how to get to any of our meetings, you can access the map and easily obtain driving directions. If you'd like to add your own write-in to the calendar and the location is not on the map, I am happy to add both the event (to the calendar) and the location (to the map). :)
