Virtual Write In - TONIGHT @ 7:00pm - ?

Howdy Ho Red Hots!!!

Tonight and every Tuesday night from now until November 30th, Michigan::Flint will be hosting a virtual, cyber write-in. You can find the chatroom we use by clicking this link: http://chatnano.net/tempchats/flint.html <-- this link will take you directly to the chat room entry page where you will find instructions on how to enter chat!

Now before we start our first Cyber Write In, there are a couple points to address:

First, this chat room is G Rated ONLY....... Period. G-rated means completely G rated. not even innuendos please.

Second, if you know the personal information of a fellow Red Hot - such as phone numbers or addresses, etc - do not give them out without permission. Let's be sure we keep each other safe.

Third, have fun and be respectful!

Fourth, NO - the words you type in chat are not part of your 50K word count for your novel

Now onto tonight's format.

As you enter chat you will note that every person already in chat will be listed in the sidebar. Please log in using your NaNoWriMo User Name - so you are easily identifiable to fellow Red Hots.

Don't hesitate to say hi to the crowd, or discuss things as you wish, but please remember - chat moves very fast. if you ask a question, allow for slower typist to respond before moving on please?

After the first 30 minutes of free chat, I will step up and announce the first word war of the night. Upon seeing that all writers are ready, I will inform chat that the war is on. Each of you in chat will then cease chatting and write !!!! At the beginning of the word war, you will know if we are writing for ten, fifteen, or twenty minute increments. At the end of the alloted time, once again everyone is free to chat away after revealing their word count.

Should you choose not to participate in a word war, that is fine, however i am going to ask that during word warring times, the chat room remains silent (except for incoming chatters,who i will greet and let now what is up) until the war is over.

In between word wars we will be having chat and that will be great time to ask for help, ideas or share some of your nano experience with others.

Howdy Ho Red Hots!

As you all know, in just a few short hours we shall begin the battle for our novels. As is tradition here at National Novel Writing Month, we as a region chose to go to word war!!!!

OORAH OORAH OORAH!

What is a word war you ask? Simple. We as a region choose to use our word counts as our weapon. This is a battle for epic proportions. Every word that every Michigan::Flint Red Hot Writer writes, and adds to their word count is a GIANT STEP towards EPIC VICTORY.

Normally regions battle one another. Active writers words counts in one region verses active writers word counts in the other region.

However.......... we are no normal Region.

Red Hot Writers are TOTALLY HOT....... This is a known fact, and the basis for this word war.

Chris Baty We Declare War on YOU!!

This year, in our bid for world domination, We, the Red Hot Writers of UNITED STATES::MICHIGAN::FLINT throw down the glove and we throw it down at Chris Baty's feet.

The war is simple - we war with the founder of NaNoWriMo himself!

By November 30th, we vow that our collective word count, averaged down; will exceed Mr. Baty's, thus ensuring us victory.
How it will work:

We will take the collective word count, divide it by the number of active writers from UNITED STATES::MICHIGAN::FLINT and average it down to a Single Novel. For example if 13, active Red Hot Writers log a collective total of 150,000 words during the month of November, that averages down to a singular novel word count of 11,538 words. <--- That 11,538 words must meet or exceed Chris Baty's final word count for us to be victorious.

WE WILL BE VICTORIOUS!!!

Chis Baty, prepare. Our assault begins in mere hours. We the Red Hot Writer Warriors of United States::Michigan::Flint declare War upon you sir.

May NaNo have mercy on your soul!!!!

Howdy Ho Red Hots!

It's that time of year again, the time where we gather around our writing tools and await to write our glorious novels. It's amazing that going into our 11th year of National Novel Writing Months, NaNoWriMo is still free.......

Part of the reason this great 30 days of literary abandon is free is donations. while The HQ staff work tirelessly to garner grants throughout the year to pay for the expenses of NaNoWriMo, without donations.....we'd be paying to torture our writer souls. Every dollar donated goes to further our causes. And as an official 501.3c Not for Profit organization, National Novel Writing Month needs your donations.

Now I know, "That's all good and well eensybeensyspider. I love NaNo and would donate, but I am broke! I can barely afford my rent, let alone a few dollars for the NaNoWriMo cause. I'll never earn my halo."

Hi, my fantastic Red Hots!

Every year, there are plenty of our writers who have transportation issues from time to time. Sometimes they can ask for rides, and sometimes they don't know who to ask and so they don't.

This thread is a place for:
- People who need rides, to post what writein they want to make, and their location for pickup and dropoff
- People who can give rides, to post what writeins they can give rides to, and how far they can go for picking up and dropping off

DISCLAIMER:
We, your MLs, are not responsible for any of you agreeing to help with gas, or not helping with gas. That is completely between the ride-offerer and the ride-needer. So make sure you have that conversation up front so that nobody is left feeling taken advantage of!

BASIC INSTRUCTIONS:
If you need a ride, post it here. If you can give a ride, post it here.

Please make sure you post what ways you can be contacted about it!

Once you find someone to connect with, use their contact info and see if a ride can be arranged.

FINAL WORD:
If rides don't work out and you end up not being able to make a writein, don't feel bad. I've been the ML for three years now and I've missed way more writeins than I wanted to; it's not the end of the world! This is also one of the reasons we will have virtual writeins using our awesome new chat room.

Feel free to Nanomail either Cylithria or myself if you need to. We may or may not feed your email to the Red Hot Nano Monster. ;)

10K weekend

Last year Stanmax and I declared a 10K weekend and that was helped me come back from a serious deficit and lead to finishing 3 days early. So, I'm declaring this weekend my 10K weekend. "Whodunit" Surprised even Me!

While writing this year's nano novel, Hide Me (Hideaway Inn), in my mind I knew "whodunit". I set it all up, slowly brought suspicions around to him being the bad guy. Six murders have happened. Everything's starting to point to him being the bad guy.

Now he has kidnapped two of the sisters....and i found out...my bad guy is someone else that i would never have suspected! There i was last night, curled up on the sofa with an ink pen and notebook because my eyes were tired of staring at the laptop screen, and BAM, i caught a glimpse of the bad guy and it was not who i thought it was.

Decision time now. Do i give this character a bit more face time earlier in the book? Will that make others start to suspect him? Can I re-write some scenes to make suspicions fall even more on my planned bad guy so that the real bad guy will be even more of a surprise?

Don't ya just hate it when...

You are just about to fall asleep, you're there all warm and cozy and comfortable, and one of your characters whispers in your ear? They give you a hint, an idea, an inkling of what they plan on doing the next day then they run off giggling because they know you are too comfortable and you are in that split second before falling completely asleep so you will not get up to write down what they told you. You cannot even summon up the energy to grab the pen and paper next to your bed before drifting off into dreamland.

Then when you wake up, stretch, grab your caffeine of choice and get ready to settle in to writing...your characters decide that they are mute now. Yep, they no longer have a voice. They are mad at you because you didn't spring right out of bed going "WOW THAT'S GREAT!" and get to writing right then and there.

Will they consent to speak again? We shall see. In the meantime...someone's getting murdered.

So, unless I want to basically move in with Anubis for the rest of the month, I really don't have a choice but to pull out of NaNo immediately.
Our road trip to Hell, MI today went good, but apparently all that ended the second we got home, because my sister started being a brat, and hit me in the head about 8 times (not to mention she destroyed my copy of Breaking Dawn which was a b-day gift...pretty mad about that too), and she just took off to who knows where...and jacked my shoes. Nevermind that SHE is being a brat and hitting ME. According to my mother its all MY fault, and she's pulling the "well, I don't have to let you online, that's MY computer" card. So I don't have a way to write and update my word count now. (she's standing across the room yelling at me to get off as I type this actually...)
I'll still be working on my novel by hand...but, officially, I'm out of NaNo.
Will be rooting for my fellow Red Hots though.

Spreading the NaNo love

So at the beginning of November my English (Introduction to Prose) professor asks if there's anything to announce, so I proudly announce the beginning of NaNo. He had no idea what it was, so I told him briefly. We've been doing presentations all semester on different things. There were two groups (which pleased my characters because that meant time writing out a conversation that they've been meaning to have) and I hear "My presentation is on something called National Novel Writing Month". My head snapped up and even my characters were intrigued. Unfortunately even in her two minute time limit she was a little too vague and the questions she was asked, she didn't know the answers to it. So people, knowing that I'm doing it - started asking me. At the end of the class the teacher calls me out and says - thanks to Connie for bringing that to my attention. I thought it would be great to put in this presentation.

So 40 people are now a bit wiser about the wonderfullness that is NaNo.

Does anybody know of anybody who got their Nano's published that have had success with their books?

Howdy Ho Red Hots...... *hugs* I'm sitting in the Show Me State of MO and just topped 45K this morning. Hopefully by the end of the day today, i can make 50K and keep going. Doing quasi well here. Trying to get healthy, which is not easy but I am doing it or else LOL.

I miss my Red Hots immensely but my health requires a bit more of a stay. Hopefully be home soon....depending on test results. w00t.

I am so proud of each of YOU. as of this morning we are only 2000K+ behind Baty Boy in our word war with Chris Baty....... That is soooooooooooooo gonna be easy for us to over come. Keep writing Red Hots....... WE CAN TAKE DOWN The Founder......... I KNOW WE CAN.

"Battle of Midway" Writeathon Invitiation from the Tri-Cities Region

Hi there, Red Hots!

I'm one of the MLs from the Michigan::Tri-Cities region, and we'd like to invite you to an all-day writeathon this Saturday, November 14, in Pinconning. Yep, it *is* a bit of a hike, but we hope we'll see you out there! Some regions we've invited are talking about carpooling up, so we're hoping to see as many Michigan regions represented as possible. A little healthy competition never hurt anyone's word counts, right? :)

We have the Thompson Room of the Third Street Station Deli (305 S. Mable [M-13], Pinconning, just north of Pinconning Rd.; http://www.3rdstreetstation.com) reserved all day on November 14, so we'll be camped out from 9 am to 9 pm. One of our Wrimos was able to get the awesome owners to waive the room rental and catering fees! The only catch? Everyone who attends needs to buy some food and drink. We can do that, right? There will also be a meat and cheese tray and nibbler tray provided to help get us through the 12-hour ordea--uh, creative endeavor. *g*

Not to mention, there will be prizes, including some awesome gift cards!

It's not just a Hallmark holiday, anymore!

Yeah, I know it's on the front page, but I'd still like to extend a personal and public thanks to Eensybeensyspider, caffeinatedelf and leianajade.

I'm a terrible introvert, and I'm not one for going out in public and meeting new people. I'll go out on a limb here and say that there are probably more people who post on these boards or even show up *gulp* to the write-ins who are the same way. But you three have made it easy to attend events. I've never felt the least bit uncomfortable coming to the write-ins and meeting new people, and that's a big deal to an introvert!

So, before this starts to sound like sucking up, thanks guys! You've opened up a whole new aspect of writing to me, and I'm grateful! Dr. Pepper all around. :)

Creative triggers?

Canix has mentioned having certain things trigger bursts of creativity, so I'm curious as to whether anyone else has anything like that. Tonight is D&D night, so I won't have the huge block of time I feel like I need to hit my target today. I had a sprint before work, and I'll have another at lunch and one before D&D (and maybe another after). I've been averaging around 400 words per sprint, but I'd like to raise that. Any thought on how to make that happen?
