Christmas party <3?

SO. =D We were talking at the THIO Party (shame on you if you could have came and didn't XP But we had fun, the six of us that were there), and the idea of having some kind of holiday-party-thing came up. And I think that'd be a hella-cool idea, what with winter vacation coming up and all. Naturally, we'd have to plan the party away from Christmas and New Year's, but I'm sure we'd be able to figure something out before or after the fact.

What kind of a Christmas party would y'all be into? Pot-luck at someone's house, reservations at a restaraunt, Secret Santa, etc., etc.?

Okay, since we're stretching on to the finish line, it's time to make plans for the final party of the year.

Well, I want your input on what you guys want to do for our end-of-NaNo party! Do you want to do it this Saturday or sometime next week? What days and times are good for you all?

Also, suggestions of where we could go and have this little bash. We could have it at someone's place (if they were gracious to host) or go out to dinner somewhere!

Post in here with your ideas and I'll come up with a plan for our bash. Thanks guys!

Race to the Finish: The Final Write In

Okay guys, since our poor ML Gayle has hit burnout this year, I decided to take initiative and get us together for one final Write-In. We only have 5 days left as of today! I'm going to contact the Panera on National to see if it may be possible to book the meeting room on Thursday the 29th and Friday the 30th. That way we can truck on through to the finish, and that way on Friday we can possibly squeeze out those last few words we need with enough time to get on home and upload our finalized word counts.

More details later today when I have the information. If we can't book Panera, I'll find us a secondary location.

During NaNo [and during planning in October *for* NaNo], the list of annoyances can get pretty long. It's why we keep a space reserved for everyone to let loose about all the things driving them nuts during the NaNo season.

One quick rule: If your issue is another person or if your issue is a situation that occurred during something NaNo-related [you think something was handled badly or something similar], don't put it here. Touch base with either alecya_giovanni [aka Sarah] or myself, and we'll handle it from there. This is to make sure that everyone can come to this board and let off some steam without having to worry about stepping into a snake pit.

Okay, the deep breath thing's a joke [unless you feel the need], but let's get some introductions rolling! We had this thread alive and kicking before the reboot, but it never hurts to reintroduce!

Name: Gayle

Screen name: francis_grey

NaNo History: I've been in since 2003 and managed to pull out a win every year. I run our lovely group [with help from Alecya Giovanni this year], and I really, really enjoy my job. Nothing like herding cats!

Plots of previous novels [if applicable]: Cop drama, really terrible romance novel, meta-cop drama [complete with ninja!], and underground superheroes.

This year's novel: I don't know where it's going, but my main character opens the book by standing in a gutter in purple-striped galoshes and not much else. It's all somehow tied into a children's book she's writing, and she blames her agent for getting her into the whole mess.

Interesting things to know about me: I'm a double-major in Creative and Technical Writing at MSU. I work full-time, take classes [8 hours this semester], and in whatever free time I find I'm usually crocheting, writing, reading, or watching something on the television. Either actual television shows or a movie. I'm getting married in Mary, so some wedding talk may happen during informal chatting sessions, but I'll try not to bore you to sleep if you've no interest in being kept up-to-date.

Dare for the novel: I can't remember my previous dare, but let's just go with someone in your novel having a wicked response to a food allergy. They can wheeze, they can sneeze, or they can even hallucinate. [Just think of the word count you could get describing a hallucination!]

Charity Write A Thon

Hey friends! Its your friendly secon in command wondering if someone (please someone) can help me out with organizing the charity write a thon, if you are all stll on board. Here's a brief list of what I think we could stand to have:

Contact with TV/Radio/News grroups in town. If you've got any of these, I'd love the help
A place to write in, and a time for it
Contact the leaisons at Ozark's Literacy Council. I assume they don't have a problem with us raising money for them, but you never know...

In addition, I was hoping in the off season for some of us (or all of us) to put together a collection of short stories based on our experiences or interviews with cancer survivors. We can self publish this magnificent work and give the proceeds to charity. What do y'all think?

Manually Writing 50k!?

I was very glad to attend the meet up tonight, first meet-up ever. Hydn behaving somewhat for so long surprised me. I was sure I would have to leave within an hour... and really hope no one minded he was there. Certainly we're an interesting bunch! (Gayle, you're damned entertaining.)

But I'm sure I recognized a face or two from somewhere, and since half the group is made up of rpers, I wondered if I might have seen them at Visioncon. Is this the case? I am so horrendous with names and even worse with recognizing faces (you change your clothes or put your hair up, I'm lost!) that I can only fathom maybe that is where or I'm just being entirely mistaken! Help?

Meet-Ups: When. Where. And What to Bring.

Hello, my NaNoers! The first meet-up is planned and ready to go!

When: October 13, 2007; 3:00 PM-7:00 PM
Where: Library Center, Meeting Room A
What to Bring: A snack, if you need it. There are no soda machines in the library. There's a coffee shop, but it's open air, and we have always been a boisterous group, so you'd have to buy it and bring it back, but the library does allow you to bring a little something to keep you going while you're in a "meeting".

Getting to the Library Center is fairly easy. You go south on Campbell. You go a little further south on Campbell. And then you keep going south on Campbell. You will eventually turn right on what Google tells me is "East Lakewood St." I just know it as "the longest stop light in the history of time and space".

Hope to see you there for the meet and greet! They're always a lot of fun [and maybe I won't fall out of my chair this year].

Good morning, my NaNoers!

For those of you who don't know me, I'm Gayle, your mostly-fearless leader [aka The Friendly Neighborhood ML]. My job is to keep you guys writing. Your job is to write. Pretty easy, huh? I can already hear a few moans and groans from the returners, who just know that the pep talks are brewing. "Crap, she's gonna tell us we're awesome again."

You bet I am. Because you *are* awesome. Every last one of you. Only the truly awesome take on the task of 50,000 words in 30 days, and we're it. The few, the proud, the really scary intense types huddled around laptops at a coffee house.

And I come with actual news! You've got a co-ML this year, an official second-in-command. Her name on the boards is Alecya Giovanni, and she's a very, very brave person. Not because she wants to co-ML, but because she wants to co-ML with me. [Type A personality? Me? Yeah, a little.]

Hi, all! Most oldbies would know me. I'm that short little Asian-lookin' high school kid who comes to one or two meetings and then vanishes with the overprotective dad. Yup, that's me. *cough* Anyway, this year, you might see more of me iRL but less of me on the forums.

Why? Because life sucks.

No, srsly. My family has had huge financial issues for the past few years, and recently, our Internet and long-distance phone was shut off. (We can get long-distance calls, but we can't make them.) Sooo, no 'Net for Mala. The only reason why I'm writing this? Is because I'm using a school computer. Mmyup.

Sooo. I gave Gayle my phone number and told 'er to leave messages on our answering machine for me. That way, I can at least stay in touch and hear when the meetings are. (Btw, you won't be seeing me this Saturday. I have a band competition to go to. ... and one next week, and one the week after that...)

Aaaand, um. Yes. That's about all I wanted to tell you lot. =D;

Good morning, NaNoers!

This is Gayle [francis_grey], your Friendly Neighborhood ML, checking in! For those who are new to the whole kit and kaboodle that is NaNo, my official title is Municipal Liaison. My job, in short, is to keep you guys on task with the novels come November. My job, in long, is to set up meet-ups and write-ins, get to know you, keep up on the boards, and be your back up should you need to vent or scream or want to throw your computer out a window. I'm the NaNo den mother, and I love it.

And this year [this'll be new to the old hats, too], I've got back up! Miss Alecya Giovanni [aka Sarah] has graciously offered to be my right hand, my second-in-command, my backup with the plan. She is a very, very brave person, and I admire her greatly for her courage to put up with me on a one-on-one basis during November.

I could use this space today to talk to you about what we're going to do for NaNo 2007, but honestly, it's not all quite hammered out yet. However, we do have a meet-up all set up and ready to go! For those of you new to the fold, we typically do one or two meet-ups before the actual NaNo kickoff. It's just a chance for people to touch base and get to know each other before we all get distracted by our novels and our characters and the amount caffeine that's thrumming through our veins.

First Meet-Up Info:

When: October 13th, 3:00 PM-7:00 PM [It's a Saturday]
Where: Library Center, Meeting Room A
