Greetings all! I live in Lake Villa and was wondering if there are any other Nanowrimos in the area. I've done meet ups a year or two back and a good time was had by all. Any takers from LV or the surrounding areas? There's some coffee shops and other meet-up areas around here, and - if possible - I'd be excited to open my home to fellow writers. Also, if\when we meet up a handicapped accessible venue would be extra nice for me.

So leave a message and let me know I'm not the only Nanoer in the area! :)

Just a quick note of pride on today's date-veterans day 11/11

Hey everyone!!
This is just a brief break from my slow writing to share why today must be my lucky day to write. Although it is Veterans Day, it is my lucky day. Why? Well, I have four kids. Two boys and two girls, of which my oldest son and my youngest daughter both share the same birthday which is today. The ironic thing is that they are eleven years apart. Corey and Karah Lynn were both born 11/11 and being 11 years apart, well how cool can it be. My Son is 21 today and my daughter is 10. Now I have not forgotten the Veterans. Most of the men in my family have either fought in the war or were in the military. My son called me today to tell me that he may not finish his Senior year of College next year because he was told this summer that they would be deployed next October during his AIT training for the Army. He did not tell me because he said that he thought that I would not be able to handle it at 38. I asked him why he decided to tell me and he said because he had to sign his 55 page clearance papers last weekend. (he does the reserves on weekends). His girlfriend told him to tell me. He was afraid I was to young of a mom to handle it. He forgets that at 17 I had to learn to handle having a baby. We have always been close until I remarried three years ago. It was a hard thing for him to handle at his age. While I think he is to young to be there, if needed, there comes a time when we all have to realize that our babies have grown up even when we are not ready to let them. I just wanted to share this moment with all my fellow nano's.

I checked with the Barnes & Noble on Route 14, Crystal Lake and they are fine with letting us set up a writing session over coffee and sweets in their store. Is anyone available Wednesday 11/12 for a writing session starting around 6pm? Just bring your laptops, chat a bit and write.... If it goes well, we could do it the following weeks as well.

Kewanee Group Invites You

We are having an all nighter on the 22Nov at the Community Ed. Center in Kewanee. We have 20 computers we can use, lots of floor space and Wi-Fi, A kitchen with a coffee maker, microwave and fridge, Lots of good will and support. We will have goodies and everyone can bring some kind of food/drink to share (unfortunately, no alcohol) with the rest. We are trying to get a handle on how many could come...please let us know even if you are just thinking about it!

I'm in the Coles County area and gas prices kind of dissuade me from trekking all the way up to Champaign-Urbana...

Last year I think there was one person in the area, but we never quite got together. I would LOVE to meet more aspiring fiction writers in the area...

Let's hear it for the generic non-Chicago areas that are too north for Southern Illinois and too South for Central Illinois!

Sigel/Neoga area anyone?

Well, since Sigel is just about the most microscopic town I know of (400 people) I was wondering if anyone here was from the area. Neoga is a little bit over twice the size of Sigel and -le gasp- actually has a high school. Also, is anyone else sitting at home freezing? I haven't been able to properly feel my toes since I got out of bed, and I'm beginning to feel my fingers stiffening up. I'm only fourteen, and they feel like ice... That's sort of sad, yes, I know.

Hey everyone!! I just wanted to give a shout out to all the writers in Illinois and yes that means outside of Chicago also. I am from Chillicothe, Illinois but have called Peoria home for the past three years after getting married. Anyway I just wanted to say "Hi" to everyone and let's kick butt this year with our word count. Now I am a fan for coffee as much as everyone else but I have to ask where else everyone else is having their meet and greet. Why? Simple, if I am sitting in a chair for thirty days of writing and possibly making my brain want to explode, then I want to kick off with fellow writer's and a BEER. Okay I said it !!!
So speak up, you know you want to. :)

If you all don't have any kick-off activities planned for November 1st that are close to you, we actually have a whole day of writerly goodness...starting at midnight with an online write-in (if you are on MySpace you can log on to www.myspace.com/peoriawrimos and you don't even need to have a chat client).

There will be a real-life write-in at Apple's Bakery from 10A-4P-- www.applesbakery.com for info & directions.

And, also a pizza party at Larry's Driftwood Inn from 6:30P-?, 661 S. Main Street, Creve Coeur (phone: 309-694-0465). Not sure how much writing will actually take place by the pizza party, but hopefully my muses are still rarin' to go. I'm trying to talk the staff into letting us have the back room by the outlets--or at least the long table in the back.

Statewide Illinois Write-in!

After conferring with the other Illinois ML's, we've all come up with a great idea - a statewide IL write in!

It will take place on Saturday, 11/22 from 1-4pm at the Warrenville City Hall. Since the location has a space limit, we have to require an RSVP to attend. (The limit is 87 people.)

Please know you can belong to more than one region, and if you would like to be posted on other region's gatherings, etc, please join so you will be automatically included. Also, ML's are able to send a group nanomail to all in their region, so it would make it easier to include all in a notification. Please note we (Margi and I) would be happy to adopt those who are "regionless" and need moral support. We are working (per grouchmuffin's suggestion) on doing a kick-off in the Peoria area...so, please join Peoria or us or Bloomington to be included in those nanomails.

I am getting very excited about this year. It will be a banner year, and I have my tee shirt already! (Buda-never got one last year, so ordered it early this year! I was jealous of yours!)

If you are Illinois elsewhere and you do not have an ML, the powers that be created a new region for Margi and Me - Kewanee, Henry county...we also want to include Whiteside, Rock Island, Warren, Mercer, Knox, Bureau, and Stark. Just a shout out from Illinois::Naperville that serves the western suburbs of Chicago. We have two more preparatory events in October and write-ins in south Naperville (Sundays in November) and in Warrenville (Saturdays in November) plus a fun TGIO December 13th.
