[STICKY] In State - Word War!!!

The MLs for both Fairfield County and the Valley-Northwest Region have agreed to get their butts kicked. ;-) Ooops, did that slip out?
Basically we're having a word war with those two regions. What will happen is those who post in this thread asking me to use their word counts will be included. Periodically, I will tally up the word counts of those who post below, I'll then get an average based on the number of writers participating. The region with the most words per writer at the end, will be crowned the victor!

Simple, eh? Your job is to post here, and let me know that I can use your word count. Then, come November 1st, you need to write as fast as your fingers will allow.

If you belong to multiple regions, you are welcome to sign for whichever region you want. (i.e. If you live in the Valley, by all means you're more than welcome to let the Shoreline count your words.)

[STICKY] Out of State Word War

The ML for Orlando, Florida has challenged us to another word war.

This is going to work the same way as the in state word war we've got going on. Respond below, and I'll be able to use your words to get a per writer average in our competition with Orlando.

Just think, by December we'll have another state that we can say we beat in another word war. Anyone else remember Indiana & Louisiana?

So let's write till our fingers fall off then use some voice recognition software to write some more and beat the pants off those damned Floridians!

A chance for everyone to meet, eat some tasty food (mmm…pancakes), exchange ideas, share past NaNo stories, and in general have a good time.

Pre- November Novel Planning Get Together
Tuesday, October 28th

This is an opportunity for those who don't have a clue what they're going to write about come November 1st to meet up with the planners of the group. This is a great chance to hear how other writers prepare for their novel, get some help with your plot, and meet other friendly writers all at the same time.

Levi E. Coe Library - Middlefield, CT
Join us at the library in Middlefield for an all day write in. Bring a snack or drink (if you think you'll want one) as we get a serious word count lead going on. We'll have word wars, prizes, and most importantly a rockin' time.

A chance for anyone who hasn't began working on their great American novel to begin. We'll get those word counts climbing as the first weekend of NaNo closes.

my laptop died yesterday.

$600+ to repair.

I have no means to type up the story any longer even if i were inclined to write longhand ,which i can't for any great period of time. .i can't type it at work (this pc) because we're in the middle of deadline.

Just giving everyone a head's up to my absense and my word count not going up. I guess remove me from the word wars too since I'll only hurt the count and median average at this point. =(

Don't know anybody who has a laptop that can lend me one either.

A measure of insanity...I hope it's appropriate to share this here...I just felt the need to have a human being or two hear this and not stare blankly back at me.

Turns out that my life really ISN'T conducive to working and writing. 12 hour days, and the kind of job where networking in the evening isn't actually optional. This dinner or that fundraiser or this other performance/schmooze-fest is requisite. You will be missed. People will be taking notes. You'll get the raised eyebrow and passive aggressive "I noticed you weren't at X last night...is everything OK?"

So I'm taking a week off work. Someone tell me that the satisfaction of finally getting a first draft of a manuscript together is worth it!!!

(Though I feel obligated, having read some of all y'alls posts, to note, for the record: "Kids, stay in school. I'm a grownup and can play hooky if I want. You teenagers, get through college first. And tell your mothers I said so.")

Speed bumps & sinkholes!

Each and everyone one of us has blockades in our way. Something to discourage and distract us from reaching our goal of fifty thousand in November. Some are small speed bumps that simply make you slow down, while others are giant sinkholes in the road that like to swallow writers whole and spit them out looking confused in and December wondering where all the time went.

So tell us, what's going to be hopping out in front of your windshield trying to stop you from reaching that 50k?

Hellllllllloooooooooo Connecticut,
Welcome back to NaNoWriMo 2008 - the 10th anniversary of NaNo!This year, I will be writing my 8th novel in a month. Wow. That makes me feel old. Anyway, I am looking forward to meeting and writing alongside many of you in November at one of our regional gatherings.

I've got some great things cooking for you guys this year, and I hope you will all make an effort to get out to some of the events.

As always, if you find a rockin' place that you think we be amazing for a get together - let me know. I'm always scouting out new locales.

Introduce yourself, let us know how long you've been doing NaNo, where you're located, what you're writing about, and any other tidbit you might want to share with us.

Personally, I'm extremely excited about NaNo this year. I live in Milford, work in Derby, and hope to write at least 75,000 words this year that are pure genius, but I'm not too sure that will happen (at least the pure genius part).

... that your numerical user number (click on "My NaNoWriMo" and it's the number at the end of the web address of your home page, or any person you look at.) also lets you know how long you've been active in NaNo. New folks are well into the 400K's. Your esteemed leader, Lizzie? One-two-five-seven-period.

... there's a decent chance that any winners will get a chance to see their completed books in print - for FREE. It's happened for two years now, though last years winners only just received notice that they'll get them for free. It always throws people for a loop when they look through my book shelf and see my name right up there between Tolkien and Kay.

... that right now we're in the top 120 regions (situated at #113 this morning) in words written per region. Not too bad for two counties!
