Romance novel Shark Attack

Also known as the Nano-isms thread.

Nano-isms: those things that find their way into your novel because it's November and you have a word count to meet.

This year for me, it's a shark attack. No, i haven't actually WRITTEN the shark attack, but it's in my MMC's novel, and there is much mocking the shark attack appearing in his novel. Surprisingly, shark attacks generate a lot of dialogue...

"Don't even gen mo started on your contrived plot lines - Do I really need to say anything more than two words? Shark attack." My FMC writes to him.

Was it just me or was it impossible to get on the boards over the weekend?

I decided to do Nano again and am having fun. It is far more challenging to write when working
full time. So I use whatever time I get which will mostly be on the weekends.

My mystery novel so far sucks. How are you doing? Who is writing what?

Cheers to our great ML Kat who always goes beyond the call of duty.

I always call her our Fearless Leader but she really is! In her"free" time between two jobs, she keeps in
touch with all of us and coordinates write ins and meet ups all around the Northern section of this
state. Small as our state is, she is driving to several different areas to meet with different Nano groups just to keep encouraging each of us to continue in our writing and noveling endeavors. She sacrifices a lot of sleep during November - for us and for her novel.

So Kat - do you feel the love? It's being sent your way in appreciation and admiration for all you do.

Get ready to write a novel of course!

By get ready, I mean do whatever gets YOU ready to write a novel - Meditate, flip though a phone book, read a good book, or (of couse) begin obsessive plotting!

November is National Novel Writing Month, and writing 50,000 words is what all the cool kids are doing in CT North! Come on out to the regional boards (at www.nanowrimo.org) and meet your fellow wrimos!

Like last year, we can get the party started early with two No Plot? No Problem! meet ups.

Our first NP?NP! meet up will be at Barnes and Noble in Canton, this Saturday (10/18), at 1pm. Feel free to make suggestions for when and where for the next. Come on out and meet your fellow nanos!

Oh, CT North - here we go again!

The land of cold, coffee- and cocoa-filled novelling nights, novelists with their strong New England work(write) ethics, and endless Katherine Bloodsaw, Donna the Waitress, and the rest of our cast of characters.

Confused? Don't worry, ask any of the crazy veterans or come out to a meet up, we'll be more than glad to procrasinate and catch you up the lore of CT North.

I'm your ML, Kat, based out of Southington CT. I enjoy rainy days of coffee and noveling, sunny days, and long walks with my dog. I've been involved in Nano since '03 and love hosting write-ins and meet ups.

Most write-ins and meet ups are held at coffee shops, like Starbucks, Cosi, or Panera, but we're always up for suggestions.

Am I being punished for getting a slow start?

I can't get my progress so far in the site to validate my count and I like to put it in there, not just add the count on my honor sort of thing...several people I know from my wrting group can't even get that far...I know the site isdoing it's best but I thought by now we'd have a little more sucess getting validation counts.

is it just me?

Write on people and Hooray Obama! (Although I lost valuable time keeping track of the election!)

Well, here we go again--I made it last year, bruised fingers and all. I do not want to repeat the 5000+ words I had to do in the last few hours of November, however, though they were some of the best in the whole thing.

Here's the part where you, my lovely nano, bring us to your neck of the woods!

Our locals are:

Cosi (West Hartford)
Starbucks (Manchester, Farmington, Plainville, and more!)
Barnes and Noble (Manchester, Waterbury, Canton)
Flatbread (Canton)
Borders (Newington, by the mall)

There are some others I missed but as you can see, most of these meets are in a 45 minute or so radius. There are plenty of us willing to move outside the usual places.

OK, so that was a little dramatic, but I'm feeling diabolical. I'm spreading the insanity that is nano to the people around me. My 11 year old son wants to do it this year. I have no idea what he wants to write about, but I'm all for it. And my friend in Detroit is going to check out the site and probably join as well. Heehee--converts!!

In onther news, for the first time in my nano history, I have an actual outline. My story is going to be so awesome this year! I can't wait for Saturday! Anyone else burning at the keyboard to get started?
