Another Year of Caffeine Fueled Noveling!

Welcome, everyone, to another year of November craziness!

Well I think John and I have gotten our routine down by now, and know all your favorite activies, but guess what? I'm hoping to have even more activities going on this year.

For instance....wouldn't it be a novel thing for this group to accomplish an actual "write in"? We've tried in the past and failed to our enthusiasm and wagging tongues. But this year...we're gonna do it! And to make sure we can achieve the goal, I'll be talking to local merchants, restaurants and anyone else that won't tell me to shut up to see what kind of rewards I can rustle up for winners of "word wars"! Sound like fun? Yeah! I think so, too!

Anyway, I just wanted to welcome everyone back to another year of noveling craziness in NanoWrimo's 10th year. It's my 4th and John's 3rd year volunteering as your motivators and I hope we can continue our goal of making every year better than the last!

We also have an ML from Syracuse, NY going to be in the area this weekend to attend a local play and he's planning to join us at the library on Saturday.

The Nice to Meet You Thread

I've been to two NaNo meetings with this region, so I obviously don't know you that well. Maybe others don't either? Maybe we have things in common that we don't know about? So here's a get-to-know-you-people thread, I guess. Tell us a bit about yourselves and what you like to write, and possibly a few strange or unusual facts no one knows about you?

I guess I'll begin...

My name is Sarah and I'm a high school senior. I have ten cats in addition to a younger sister (yikes). I like to read and write about different cultures and ideas and things of that nature, which stems from the way I adore foreign languages and cultures, and will more than likely be participating in a gap year foreign exchange in '09-'10.

Thank you, everyone, for being so patient with the site and the forums. Every year more and more people join Nanowrimo and inevitably, that growth causes some "growing pains".

It appears the addition of another server, they are now running 3, has solved the problem and we shouldn't see anymore error pages.

On that note....

Keeping the home office running and purchasing new equipment so we can continue our growth every year does add up for costs and as the "Office of Letters and Light", the non-profit Organization that sponsors Nanowrimo and other events, is just that...a non-profit, donations are always needed. So if you are able, please consider donating by clicking on the donation button on the home page.

Know what you're writing yet?

We're gearing up for another fun month and I know everyone's thinking about what they are going to write this year.

Personally, I have so many stories "in process" at the moment, I just can't start anything new...lol

What I've decided to do is write mine as a hodgepodge of pieces of what I'm already writing. Admittedly it will probably be mostly my twist on te King Arthur Legend, but we'll probably see clips of the vegetarian werewolf, my gypsy clan, my not so super superhero and possibly even my conspiracy theory story which starts off in a car dealership and has a car salesman as the main character.

All in all, it could be a pretty interesting "novel" by the time I'm done...with any luck I'll have another story finished at the end.

So what's on your mind for this year?

Nano Events!

Due to the issues with the calendar, I've decided to post our events here instead. A mass email will also be sent.

2:00 Saturday, Nov 1st - Starbucks, Hepburn Plaza Williamsport - Kick Off! -Gather with old friends and new as we head into another year of noveling madness! Special prizes for those who have already met or surpassed their day one goal of 1667 words!

7:00 Monday, Nov 3rd - Starbucks, Hepburn Plaza Williamsport - Write In! We are, again, going to attempt write-ins this year. A new special guest will appear....a timer! Maybe that will keep us on track as we plough our way through "Word Wars".

2:00 Saturday, Nov 8th - James V Brown Library, Williamsport - We''ll be locking up those pesky internal editors that might be blocking our progress and other fun treats!

7:00 Tuesday, Nov 11th - Starbucks, Hepburn Plaza Williamsport - Write In! See above for desciption.

2:00 Saturday, Nov 15th - James V Brown Library, Williamsport - "Green Light, Red Light", not to be confused with the game we played in fields or playgrounds as children. This activity, new to our group, should get those creative juices flowing!

7:00 Wednesday, Nov 19th - Starbucks, Hepburn Plaza Williamsport - Write In! We should be getting these down by now....

2:00 Saturday, Nov 22nd - James V Brown Library, Williamsport - By far, the most anticipated event of our group....it's....Character Day! Dress up as your main character and prepare to discover new things about him/her/it...

2:00 Saturday, Nov 29th - Starbucks, Hepburn Plaza Williamsport - As this is the holiday weekend and many will be unavailable, this will be our last scheduled Write-In. If available and recovered from your turkey coma, please join me in the last push towards the finish line.

Our TGIO (Thank God It's Over), is yet to be planned, as that is a dinner event and I'll be posting for input in the planning soon.

We're supposed to be using a Google Calendar this year and I put the request in weeks ago for it to be linked but I still don't know where it's supposed to be linked too....

Anyway, if not, I'll paste a link here....and worse case scenario just post the months events if we can't get that working....

Writing Local

I've really gotten into writing locally lately, incorporating the Susquehanna Valley into my fiction and memoirs with a sense of pride. Anyone else enjoy adding a Lycoming County flare to their work?
