This thread be for ye, a thread for all to celebrate the milestones that they have passed, and to look forward with wonder (or dread) at the ones before them still.

Let us link hands and rejoice, singing Kumbaya, fellow writers! Regardless of the state of our particular novel, there is much need for lively dancing and singing in our hearts. We have done what many could not, what many more poor souls never will - We have put our fingers to compressable keys and typed out the beginnings of a novel that will forever be remembered in our brain as an achievement. Many were called to write, this November; Few were chosen, and we stand the few, the proud, the insane. Should we stay the course we have set, all of us will have earned the title 'novelist' in just 27 days!

Writing Medium?

I was getting the kinks ironed out of my setup tonight and I started wondering what medium you guys are using to write your novel. I'm using TextEdit on the Macbook for when I'm at home and TextGuru on the iPod Touch for when I'm at work or school. What about you?

(No, this has nothing to do with procrastination. I would certainly never find anything to do to avoid writing. I'm offended you even thought that of me. *huff*)

Here, as promised, is my review of the various coffee places I've found on my side of the River. Think I'll head to the Mammoth in Newport today and see what it's like this morning, before the official Cinci Write in at 2 at Caribou in Anderson. If you have others you know about, add them to the thread and I'll try them out. I've got a Scrivener page devoted to this, so I'll have it for reference next year.

Jean Robert’s Greenup St. Cafe 308 Greenup St (old Wildflour)
Weekdays and Saturday mornings (hours 7-9:30 most days) are best times to visit while writing. Not tons of electrical outlets or space (may be more room upstairs?) But Nanos welcome, Great coffee and scones. Sunday brunch is Packed— writers more welcome other times. Park down by the riverfront park and walk back.

Brewberry Coffee Co, Dixie Hwy and Orphanage Rd
Nice space, not crowded. Music a little loud but mellow. Very welcoming. Bonbonnerie Scones—’nuf said.
Hours: M-F 7-5:30, Sat 8-5:30, Sun 9-12.

Altiora Taylor Mill
Hours:
6 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Friday;
8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday;
8 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday.
Site of first official Write in. Consensus was this is a great place. Tasty sandwiches, salads and soups, large space, lots of electrical outlets and a variety of seating options— tables, couches, chairs, high tables. Music slightly loud in the back when I returned on a weeknight.

Starbucks Ft Thomas - 1405 Grand Ave
Hours: 6-11 most days I think.
Where everybody knows my name. Small and cozy for a chain. Walking distance to my house.

Starbucks Crestview Hills
Hours 6-11 most days, I think.
Typical chain, music too loud for headphones.

Panera Crestview Hills Mall
Hours 6 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Saturday; 7 a.m.-7:30 p.m. Sunday.

I wrote here for 9 hours (afternoon to close) on a Saturday last year after spending the morning at the library doing the same. Tasty sandwiches and free refills on coffee.

Quiet, has sandwiches as well as coffee. I got free wifi (had to select Not tmobile or cbwifi). Not sure if I wasn’t just piggy backing on someone else’s signal though. Very friendly and welcoming, large space, variety of seating (leather chairs or tables). I will be back here.

Have not been welcoming to our group in the past. Typical Starbucks fare, late hours, nice view.

Spent last night of Nano there with a fellow Wrimo last year, but they were closed election night, though their hours of operation clearly stated they should be open, both on the door and on their web site. I’ll try again on a Fri or Sat night and see if they’re defunct. It was a nice place for coffee, or adult beverages, and their menu was more extensive than your typical pastries and sandwiches (since it’s also a bar and music venue.)

I'm currently at the Starbucks in Crestview Hills with Wee Hob if anyone cares to join us. We'll be around until about 8:30pm. Tomorrow I'm thinking of going to Jean Robert's Greenup Street Cafe in the morning, maybe 10-12. And I'll be at the Cincinnati Area Write in at Caribou Coffee from 2-4. Feel free to join us or let me know if you're interested in meeting up on the South side of the River sometime. I've been making a list of good coffee shops over here-- maybe that's what I'll procrastinate with finishing up tonight.

Any Morehead State University students besides me gonna try this? Perfect timing, right before finals...T_T I must be insane. I'm a freshman this year and school has been way tough on me, so of course I go and add 50,000 words to my already ginormous list of things to do in November. :D Maybe we can start a writing group in anyone else in Morehead is actually entering. I feel like the only writer in this town. Can't find anybody else who actually writes.

I figured we needed a place to discuss our writing in general. Pretty snazzy eh? Also, since we are a fairly small group unless another thread is made, we might also be able to provide help to one another here on our NaNos.

I'll kick this off by giving a very brief summary of my novel Pulse:

Illona Tsura (I believe the last name is Romany) is a member of a very elite, secretive organization called The Underground. Liam Parker is a journalist sent to do undercover work to investigate this group. They meet and some very unpleasent things happen. (There's an interrogation involved and it's not from Liam ;) I have most of my characters named (that's sort of my thing I suppose) but I have no idea where the initial plot is going to go. The beginning of the novel starts out with Liam going to a rave in the desert doing his field work. When he meets Illona she does some tricky things and ends up getting ahold of him to interrogate him on why he's investigating her organization. That's pretty much all I have at the moment. It's more developed in my mind- I think! I'm pretty giddy NaNo is starting. I can finally get this story out of my head!
