WORKSHOP. You in? Well? Are ya?!

This was mentioned at the TGIO party at the ridiculously expensive Mel's (But don't worry, Chris, we don't blame ya :P) and someone SAID they were working on it.

...Hm.

Well, it's already the second week of December, and if we don't get shakin', then this obviously ain't going down.

So. I'm trying to organize a writer's workshop probably somewhere in central Seoul, somewhere where EVERYONE has easy access to, maybe every 2 weeks, because god knows, I don't want to give up every weekend (don't get nearly enough of those as I feel are entitled to me) for a workshop.

Anyone else up for this idea?
Thank God It's Over Party

Hey everyone,

It's time to start planning the Thank God It's Over Party, the traditional end-of-NaNo get together. Usually we eat and discuss the joys and stresses of the month, and everyone shares a short excerpt from their novel.

This year, we finish on a Friday, so I suggest we meet on Saturday, December 1st.
Does anyone have a preference as to where?
Last year we met at a Chinese restaurant near Seouldae and had a private room, and that is certainly an option. I know a samgyeopsal restaurant in the same neighborhood that has private rooms, and there are places like that all over the city.
Or, if we want to meet in Itaewon, a friend of mine runs an Aussie restaurant that I know we could use.

Please tell me your ideas so we can plan this!
How crazy/absurb/wonderful is your novel?

Hey everyone.

I hope most of you are past the halfway point, going into the final two weeks of NaNo.

Let's take a minute to share something about our stories. How weird have you gotten? Anything insane or amazing sneak into your writing?
Let's see...

In my story, working title: Purgatory, the main character has been completely alone from page 4 until page 102 (minus flashbacks). I finally introduced the second character, but she only speaks Icelandic (a language I don't know. Thank the gods for Google.)

The main character is convinced he is suffering in a coma dream, so being spoken to in a language he doesn't know is really throwing him for a loop.

OK, your turn!

I know this is a question that often comes up, so I thought I'd post this blog bit about how many words make up a page and how many pages make up a book.

Fighting !

Well today, I was able to accomplish a bit beyond the day’s quota. I feel good about it. I have 15,697 words as a balance since my output is only 7,641 of the desired 23,338. I never been these numerically conscious since I am suppose to play with words but with Nanowrimo I have to compute: add and subtract.

I am not sure where my words are going and added up to since I am here in Korea now but I made both countries (Korea and Philippines as my regions). I just discovered the widget for my word count to put in my blog as well.

Also found that in the word count score board
Philippines is ranked 102 with a total of 955,460 words and some 35 dollars donation
Korea where I am now is at number 225 with total words of 337,268 and zero donation.

Oh by the way, anyone into erotic fiction here?

Anyone into i-google? If you have gmail account then sign up for it and be sure to have mapmyworddictionary – it is like a mind map of words or thesaurus. Of course wiktionary (compared to the online Webster), wikipedia and google search are such big help for me to expound and pad my draft…

Fighting! so the Korean expression goes, to cheer us up to 50 K.

Write, write… write and write some more…

----------
Live Life! Love Life!

STUPID PROOFS AND REVISIONS aka How Life is Screwing with Nanowrimo

=_= I AM SO BEHIND.

If I hadn't gone and restarted my NANO, I'd, at least, be semi-on schedule. But noooooo, I had to go and restart, on the 4th, which technically, isn't that bad.

...it's the way real life intrudes that gets my teeth on edge. Or is it "puts my teeth on edge"? Bah. I don't have to deal with such trivalities.

Maybe I bit off more than I can chew. But while working on Nano, I've got to re-vision TWO Christmas stories for their respective anthologies, and I've got two more installments of Blood Martyr which is coming out on the 20th of this month and then the 23 of next month, not to mention, I've got another thing to submit to Black Lace, ON TOP of Nanowrimo.

God, I want to go and bury myself and not come out until next January. Is there anyone out there willing to rent me a mausoleum?

Anyone else who's life is currently being invaded by stupid things that are preventing them from going out there and busting Nanowrimo's nuts?

----------
Introductions

I know the website is not working well (they are trying desperately to fix everything), but let's go ahead and try to get an introduction thread going.

I'll start.

My name is Chris Sanders.
I'll be acting as the Municipal Liaison this year (Suho is busy writing his dissertation this year).
I've been in Korea for over three years; currently I teach at Sungsil University (south of the Han River in Dongjak-gu, Seoul).
This is the third year in which I'll actively participate in NaNoWriMo.
Let's see, what else.
My favorite authors are Haruki Murakami and Myla Goldberg.
I do hope to one day be a published novelist!

OK, that's a little about me. Everyone else, please follow suit!
----------

I dunno what happened to Ross. He left to take a shower at 7:30 and there's no sign of him. I'm half-convinced that he slipped and is currently lying dead on his bathroom floor. >__>

Online Chat Challenge!

I do this with my romance writers forum occasionally, and I thought it'd be a great way to get people writing on week nights when everyone's sitting around, knowing that they ought to write, but having little drive to do so. I could open up a chat room and people could drop in between the hours of, say, 6 PM to maybe midnight or 1 AM and we can have little mini challenges, doing spurts of 20 minutes, and everyone posting up their word count of how much they managed to accomplish during the said amounts of time. I found this was a really motivator and god knows, I'm going to need something like that when tomorrow rolls around.

:D I'd like to get everyone's view on this and if you guys might be up for doing it, since we can only have write-ins on weekends, and this wouldn't really be a limitation for those of us living not in Seoul and those who can't make it to the write-ins.
Korean Military NaNo's

so perhaps this is just my own hope but i would really like to meet up with some of the other people who do NaNoWriMo. But as my luck would have it i am restricted to post because of my 1SG. Is there anyone in the military (and i say only the military because they do not allow us to invite civilians onto the Korean Air Base that i live on) that would like to come up to Suwon AB and work a little?
I know that it's not much of an offer but i have both my room or the library that we can work out of... yes i have more than one computer.... 3 actually O_o. and all the snacks and caffeine that your heart could hope for!!!
I am really hoping that someone will want to get together because as long as i have been doing this i have yet to meet another NaNo outside of the three or four of us that did it together in high school.
Flashback from 2006: The Sixty-Second Pep Talk

Some of you may remember that I did this crazy little thing called the Sixty-Second Pep Talk last year. It wasn't much, just sixty seconds of me babbling. Everything is still online (I'm neurotic about not taking stuff down), so I figured I'd toss out the link to anyone who might not have heard it last year, or for those who may have heard it but just have really bad memories.

The Sixty-Second Pep Talk

If you do listen, remember that it was done last year, so the days of the week are going to be off by one.

Chris, I hope you don't mind me posting this. I just figured we had a lot of new people this year, and might as well get some more mileage out of it, right?

Hope you guys had a great kick-off party (and I hope someone took pics!).
Tools, Tips, and Tricks

One of the things we discussed at last night's Kick-off party was things that can help us meet the 50k finish line.

My suggestion was to use Google Docs. Their word processor app is pretty darn good, and of course, you can use it anywhere you can access the internet. Top notch.

Other ideas:
* Don't think of your NaNo writing as the next Hemingway or Grisham. NaNo is about writing alot, not writing well.
* Turn off your inner editor (ok, that's basically the same as the above point, but it bears repeating)
* Set a goal. Don't just wait for inspiration. NaNo is about putting words on the screen everyday, in order to build the habit of writing often. I found that when I set a goal that was strenuous but not insane, I worked more diligently to achieve it. (Last year that was 5000 words a day, and it went pretty well for the most part; and when my work-life got hectic, I had slack to cover it)
* Find a word-war buddy and try to beat them

What helps you? Please share!
November Kick-Off Party

Hey everyone!

November is rapidly approaching so it's time to plan the Kick-off Party.
For those who aren't familiar with this, it is a great way to get the month started. You get to meet some of the people involved in the frenzy, talk about story ideas, share writing tips, and just have fun.

Now, when and where?
(edited)
Sunday, October 28th at 7:00pm at 민들레영토(Mindeulraeyeongto) in Hongdae
The cost is 5000w a person, and that gets you a free drink. The room is reserved for 3 hours, but if we go over that, it's 700w per 30 minutes (and they close at 11).
I reserved the room for 8 people, but if we have more, I can call and expand it.
To get there:
Go out Hapjeong (lines 6[brown] and 2[green]) exit 3, walk straight until you read a big intersection(a street sign will point to Hongik Univ). Turn right and walk until you reach the (dangerous, unregulated) crosswalk. Cross and keeping walking straight down the alley. (Total Wedding House should be on your left). Keep walking past the big playground and a little magazine shop called Time. Shortly after Time you'll see 민들레영토 on your left. The room is reserved under the name NanoWriMo.
Map: http://bindlestiffs.com/images/nanomap.jpg

If you get lost or confused, call me: 010-8877-6742.

Now, important! PLEASE POST HERE IF YOU ARE GOING TO COME TO THE KICKOFF PARTY!
We need to have a fairly accurate head count. Thanks!!!

Finally, for our brethren in Daejon, Busan and elsewhere, please think about organizing a party in your locale, too.
