I missed the gathering last weekend in Coral Gables because it was pouring down rain and I don't drive in the rain...actually, I try not to drive at all. So if anyone is out here by me in South Beach, and wants to walk or bike to a write-in, let's talk about it.

Tomorrow we will enter week three, which is the halfway point on our 30 Days of Novel Madness tour. The Ides of November, if you will. Chances are good that if you've made it this far, you'll cross the finish line at the end of the month with a brand spanking new novel under your belt. Not literally, of course; I assume it's in your computer or in notebooks, which you may or may not be keeping under your belt.

If you're still behind in word count, keep in mind that you've probably written more in these 14 days than most people will in their lifetimes. You've also probably written more than you yourself ever have on any single project. It's an amazing achievement however you look at it. Now stop reading this email and go write until you're caught up. What are you doing, you're still reading. Seriously. If you have time to read this, you have time to write a few hundred words. Go on now. Shoo.

If you are still cruising along at the suggested pace or, gasp, actually ahead of the pack, I salute you. Keep up the good work and don't lose your momentum. If you slack off once, it tends to get easier and easier to do it again. So don't do it at all!

Week two, woohoo!

Greetings!

Today begins week two, which tends to be about the time that the initial enthusiasm has worn off and we look around and wonder what we have gotten ourselves into. Family members who promised to be supportive have started to ask if we really have to write so much every single day. Friends are saying things like, "Come on, let's go see a movie tonight, you can write later" and then suddenly it's midnight and we haven't written a single word. Worse, if we've fallen behind, the idea of catching up has become almost unthinkable.

Take heart! Remind your family and friends that it's only a month and you'll be back to a normal schedule. If you've fallen behind, use the weekend to get back on track. My favorite tip, given to me by a wise Wrimo two years ago: set a timer for ten minutes and during that time, don't stop writing. Once the timer goes off, step away from your computer or put down your pen and go do something else for at least ten minutes. Writing in sprints helps keep you focused and it takes off some of the pressure you can feel from staring at a blank screen or page for a long time. After all, it's only ten minutes!

For those of you on track or ahead of schedule, keep up the good work! Every extra word you put in the bank helps support you in the lean times, like the upcoming holidays.

Hello Folks,
We're half way through October, it won't be long before we become obsessed with writing 1667 words a day. It's going to be a fun and crazy journey. For those of you who are new and not quite sure it is humanly possible to write 50,000 words in 30 days, let me tell you it is. We'll talk more about that later though.

So far we'll be meeting at Borders on Fridays at 8 PM, when all you excited writers show up we can discuss adding another day that is convienient to the majority.

And for those of you in Broward who may be subscribed to the Miami list, I know you are feeling like orphans, I have offered my services to ML if I am needed. Their wonderful ML, Claire, moved out of the state. If that is the case I will most likely be hosting write-ins is Plantation/Sunrise.

I hope to see many of you at the kickoff party next week!

I attend FIU at University Park and was wondering if anyone was interested in meeting on campus in November to do some sprints or what have you. MWF I attend school and will be available between 2 and 8. I do have a tutoring job that sometimes requires me to leave campus but usually I'm pretty much sitting in the Piano Room in GC sleeping and that would be a time waste come November. Anyone up for motivating me and in turn being motivated by me? PM me or just reply here.

First, I'd like to remind you that our kickoff party is tomorrow. The pertinent details, once again:

Second, and more importantly, as of November 1 we will be AT WAR! The Nashville region has challenged us to a Word War, and because we are not yellow-bellied cowards, we have accepted. Word War N will commence on November 1 and will continue until we pummel them into submission--or November 30, whichever occurs first.

What is a Word War? It's simple: we write, they write, and whichever region has the highest average word count per person at the end of NaNoWriMo will be the winner. It is no longer our individual honors at stake, my fellow Wrimos; the honor of our entire region depends on each of us contributing to the cause by writing as much as possible. Feel free to trash talk on our forum (http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/281), but keep it civil; no punching below the waist and so forth.

The kickoff party will be held on October 25 at Titanic Brewery (http://www.titanicbrewery.com/), a restaurant/pub near the University of Miami. We'll start at 3pm and stick around until everyone is sick of each other. There's free parking in the back and meter parking on the street, and I think you can park in adjacent UM lots without a permit on Saturdays.

Greetings and salutations!

It's almost November, and if you're reading this message, then that probably means you and I share a goal: to write a novel in a mere month. Can it be done? Surely! I've done it, and so have many of the other denizens of this corner of the website devoted to those of us who live in and around Miami.

If you've done this before and you're still coming back for more, it's good to see you again! If you're new to NaNo, make yourself comfortable and don't hesitate to contact me or the other Municipal Liaison, Cherrie, if you have any questions whatsoever. I'm mostly around to help the denizens of the southern part of Miami-Dade, while Cherrie mostly handles the northern half, but if you contact us using the handy form provided at http://www.nanowrimo.org/mlcontact then we should both get the message. We coordinate the kickoff party, the write-ins, and the TGIO (thank goodness it's over) party. None of the group activities are mandatory, but they can be very motivational and helpful, so we hope you can join in.

Speaking of parties, we'll be sending out an email soon to announce the date, time and location of the kickoff party. It will be before November 1, and will be nothing fancy; it's mostly an excuse for us to get to know each other a bit before we dive into the deep end. If you have any suggestions or preferences, please let us know.
