Word Count Scoreboard

Every year, all the regions compete for title of wordiest. Right now, Boston is at number 13, out of 445, with 6,437,012 total words. Go Boston!

Here are the other Massachusetts regions:
#75 Elsewhere 2,147,614
#128 Worcester 1,477,545
#134 Western Mass 1,415,888
#224 North Shore 778,618
#254 5-College 602,360
#297 Milford/Bellingham/Franklin 420,244
#298 Cape Cod 415,891
#348 Berkshires 253,451
#384 Plymouth 158,129

It blows my mind to see how many new regions we have now! Anyone even know what 5-College is, because I don't know what/where that is.

But keep in mind that these numbers are not the only standard. Average word count is different.
#21 Milford/Bellingham/Franklin 23,346
#65 Plymouth 19,766
#137 Western Mass 17,480
#148 North Shore 17,302
#186 Worcester 16,601
#215 5-College 16,280
#244 Boston 15,776
#355 Elsewhere 14,129
#417 Cape Cod 11,882
#424 Berkshires 11,520

Hey, we're beating Boston and Elsewhere on average word count. If we had their numbers, we'd cream all of the competition. Let's try to bump ourselves up a few slots. If today everyone writes as much as they usually do, and then a few extra hundred words, it'll only take a few more minutes, we can overtake North Shore.

Today North Shore, tomorrow... Western Mass!

Do Not Do What I DId

No, I didn't accidentally delete my novel. But I signed up for the free Netflix trial for my family and discovered the "View Instantly" feature. I have over 40 movies in a queue that I can watch instantly on my computer. This morning during my prime writing time, I was watching Monty Python's Meaning of Life.

Help!!!!!!!!

(Okay, back to writing. I'm about to cross the 10k threshold.)
Oxford/Auburn area anyone?

Hi guys!

I hope everyone is keeping up with their word counts. I'm a little ahead at this point, but I'm losing steam fast. I was wondering if any of you are in the Oxford/Auburn area and if you'd like to meet up... The Oxford library is open until 8pm Tues-Thurs. They are also open on Saturdays until 4pm.

I know I had mentioned it in a previous thread, but there is a bakery/coffee shop in Oxford too but I haven't had a chance to get ahold of them for their hours. (I tend to write at night so that's when I think of calling... but obviously they are closed then).

Anyway, I don't know if there is anything in the Auburn area that would work but I am willing to look into it!

Ok. Enough procrastinating.

Leominster Weekend Write-Ins: 11/14 & 11/16

Hi All,
I am doing a poor job at keeping my numbers high. I hope I am the only one though.

Friday night (11/14) you can find me at Starbucks in Leominster for a Write-In. I will be there from about 6:30 until closing (9pm-ish). I will have challenges and a few prizes (yea, they are still a little girlie).

Sunday afternoon (11/16) Rebecca and I will be at the Leominster Public Library from 1 - 3:30pm. I will have more challenges and more girlie prizes.

I hope to see you all at one of these.

Tuesday 11/11 Worcester City write-in

Hello all!

Because the past three/four write-ins at the Q and Espress Yourself have had no participants show, I will be moving tomorrow's location closer to home for me. I don't mind driving 20-30 minutes across town as long as people will be there, but if no one will then I'd rather drive only 5 ;-p

So tomorrow's venue will be the Barnes and Noble in Lincoln Plaza. I intend on setting up laptop in the Starbucks area, and will tape a flyer to my laptop. Don't forget that everytime you show up you are entered into a raffle for the end of the month (it's looking really good for the Morning Kick-off attendees!), plus we've been wanting to give away a book every week.

Please come out and help get each other going past the Slump of Second Week!

So again it's:

Tuesday, November 11 @ 7 pm (go til about 9)
Barnes and Noble Lincoln Plaza

Tomorrow's giveaway: Make a Scene, by Jordan Rosenfeld

I'll be at the Borders near the Solomon Pond Mall at 6PM on Tuesday.

Hello out there in WriMoLand!
Worcester City WriMos I will be at Espress Yourself on Pleasant Street in Worcester this Sunday, 11/9, from 2 - 4. It's small, quiet, and has wifi. I'm checking it out as another possible location as I have never been there before. Anyone who wants to join me is welcome whether you want to vent about your struggles, need to cry a little bit, or require some help breaking through some blockage.
LadyBrie and I have also been talking about write-ins for Tuesday (11/11) and/or Thursday (11/13) this week. Any feedback feel free to post here or shoot us a message. Let us know what you think, prefer, etc.
11/8 Write-In

So I was planning on an evening thing, but that's not at all possible, seeing as I already have two other places to be simultaneously. So, afternoon anyone? The specific time is still a little loose at this point, but I was thinking probably 2-4.

I can easily get to Starbucks, and I'm going to bring a powerstrip for anyone who needs it. The Leominster Public Library is also an option. If anyone has a preference, please let me know (quickly, we will need to reserve a room in the library).

Anything else? Um, I don't think so.

Breakfast style refreshments will be provided (though any left over Halloween candy is most certainly welcome), and we are ready with all sorts of games, challenges, and other little tricks to get November started the "write" way (I know, shoot me now).

We're still in the process of arranging our weekly write-ins, but the current plans are to have an official write-in on Tuesdays and an un-official common drop-in ground for Thursdays.

There are many ideas floating around in our heads to help you all, so please come out! We have some pretty sweet raffles in mind for the Thank Goodness it's Over party which you cannot get into unless you show up during the month ;-)

Happy Last Minute Outlining!

~Midnightpassenger and Lady Brie (your Worcester (city) ML and intern ML)
NaNo Site Troubles

Hey guys...

I was just wondering if anyone else is having serious NaNo site problems... I have been trying to get onto this site for days now. I suspect the only reason I'm getting into the boards now is due to the election. Even at this time last night I was having major difficulties.

Anyway, I hope everyone else is doing well with their novels. I'm trying to stay ahead in my word count and I'm hoping to keep "The Wall" at bay. :)

Nov 1: Panera Bread. A Diary

I am at Panera in Leominster waiting for somebody, anybody to show up. It is 9:34 now and I have taken over two tables in the front cubbyhole of tables. When you come in, go to your right. I will be here with prizes and games and goodies until noon-ish. If nobody shows up by 11am I am packing it up and heading out.
FYI- the internet is slow here today.

Come by so I can go buy some breakfast. I don't want to leave my laptop just hanging out alone on the table. I don't know these people.

Come by so I don't have to waste my words with these useless posts.
Kick-Off Part-Ay!

I have never felt so indecisive in my life. The demise of Moose Creek has left a hole in my heart (I fear Mr. Mosse may have left us) and a bout of indecisiveness. Mostly because there are two things I desire: free internet and lots of comfortable space for the writing. Apparently it is hard to come by both without resorting to people's homes. Why not people's home, you ask? Mostly because I don't want to tax someone and force them to clean up our mess. It's one thing if they get paid to do that, it's another if they were just being nice.
Why I am being so wordy: preparation for next month!

Here is the deal with our super sized kick off party:
- Saturday November 1st from 9:30am until noon at Panera Bread in Leominster (at the Mall off of Rts 2 or 190). I will have this years sticker, prizes, challenges, and ideas to help you get to 50,000 words. My goal is to make sure you hit big in the first two weeks so you can enjoy Thanksgiving. Mr. Cow will be joining us for
- Same day, but from 7pm until 9-ish at Starbucks in Leominster (off of Rt.2 by Chopsticks, Dennys and the mall). I will be doing a more casual event, but I will push your word count up.

I will also be at the same Starbucks on Sunday at about noon-ish. This is not official, but if you are welcome to come write with me.
No More Moose Creek... Leominster WriMos need a home

It is with great sadness that I let everyone know that our local writing home, MooseCreek, has closed it's doors. The webpage is done, the phone is disconnected and Mr. Moose is in tears.

We have a few options and need to find a new home. I need your feedback, especially if you are expecting to be at the Leominster write-ins.

1) Starbucks: located off of Rt. 2 by Chopsticks, the mall and Toys R Us. What is good: Coffee, comfortable, and generally quiet as we get deeper into the winter holiday shopping season. What is us bad: coffee and no free wifi.

2) Panera Bread (Leominster): located at the mall. What is good: coffee, snacks, lunch and free wifi. What is bad: it will be packed to the gills the closer we get to December.

3) Leominster Library: located in Downtown Leominster. What is good: comfortable, free wifi, can reserve space so we can go crazy. What is bad: no food allowed unless we make other arrangements, not open past 5pm on weekends. Note: If we want to reserve a room here we do need a Leominster resident to do this.

Do you know of any other locations? Free wifi is nice, but we can make do without. Coffee and snacks are good, but I suspect that we could do without. For me, the critical criteria is that we won't have to fight for places to sit together.

November 1st is a Saturday!
What a perfect day for a kick off party/Write-In!
We typically kick off the year in Leominster/Fitchburg. If there is someone in Worcester who can run one, please let me know.

Also, what is best for each of you to do Write-Ins:
Friday evenings
Saturday mornings
Saturday afternoons
Saturday evenings
Sunday mornings
Sunday afternoons
Sunday evenings
Want to be an ML?

Hi everybody!
Sariah posted this before the wipe, but I want to keep this opportunity open. We need more/new MLs! Do you want to help support your fellow writers in the area with stickers? Do you want to meet lots of people and increase your chances of writing 50,000 words? Do you like power and control? If you answered yes to any of those questions you should consider becoming an ML.
MLs are municipal liaisons, the ladies and gentlemen who organize write-ins, monitor this board, give away stickers and other prizes. They are often the first in line to get quoted in newspaper articles. They get free t-shirts in their second year and special gifts from NaNoWriMo (posters and such). They organize the kick-of and "Thank Goodnes It's Over" parties. They can do as much or as little as they want.
We need two more people to help as Sariah and I may be doing this for the last time. I would prefer someone close to Worcester and someone in the north part of the county (Fitchburg, Leominster, Gardner) to help us out. If you have already done NaNoWriMo once before (winning doesn't matter, but attempting rather) you can officially be on board. If this is your first year, you can be an intern ML to see if you like it enough.
Please remember, you do not have to win to be an ML, but your chances of doing so do increase as you are at many of the write-in and support events. Unless you are crazy, busy or crazy busy you will write.

Let Sariah or I know if you want to help out. It's fun, it's cool, it's free.
