Welcome, everyone, to another year of noveling insanity. This is the 10th year anniversary of NaNoWriMo, and my fourth year participating. And November has become my new favorite month. :)

Please introduce yourselves and let us know where you're located. Last year we ran most of our events out of Old Forge, but as the participants change from year to year, it's good to make sure we're meeting in a place that's convenient for as many people as possible. Other possible locations could be Barnes & Noble in Wilkes-Barre or Borders in Dickson City.

We'll be keeping track of our events at Google Calendar. Here's the link:
http://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=av53u541bjljm1oebtr5kib988%40gr...

The kind folks at HQ let the MLs in first to set up our welcome message, but we expect the site to be bogged down in the first few days as folks sign up and test out the new profile page. Please be patient. As things settle down, we'll be up to speed soon.

Happy Noveling!!

Hi Alice,

Yes it is me and I am back again for another crazy year. I am still kicking around two different ideas for a story this year so I haven't even begun outlining yet, if you can imagine that ;)

Anyway, I certain hope to be able to get to one or more of the meet ups this year. Of course you know I don't drive so it will depend on when and where you have them. Anyway, I just wanted to pop my head in and say hello and good luck to everyone taking part in this special aniversary year of NaNo. (Oh, I got the t-shirt this year and it's way cool!!!)

Hi Alice,
Thanks for the welcome. A newbie to this brand of insanity. Just decided to give it a go for the pure fun of it. At least that's my intent at the moment. Dallas is my mailing address. Looking forward to this. Off to start the prep work now. Have to make sure the espresso machine has plenty of pods.

Howdy from Susquehanna County!

This is my third year NaNoing, but my first year up here - I've just moved up here from Austin, Texas (where I'm still working on last year's novel).

Haven't decided what this year's NaNo project will be, but I'm leaning toward a ghost story.

Nice to see some early-birds here! I was hoping to do some meetups around the area, rather than just holding them in one place. That way I can meet a lot more of you. :)

Welcome to the insanity, Gini. I do hope you know what you're in for. *evil cackling laughter*

Where in Susquehanna county are you, Raykun? I'm actually in Laceyville, so a meetup in the Endless Mountains region is a definite possibility. It would be more convenient for both of us.

Terrie! Good to see you here again. I want to do at least one B&N meetup, and if you need a ride, I'd be happy to pick you up.

I'm glad to see the site is still behaving - for now. We can get to know each other and start to make some plans before it implodes!

I'm actually in Montrose, but without transportation of my own (which makes life more interesting than it has to be), and I'm going to miss the three-or-four-times-a-week write-ins that I was able to make when I was in Austin. Getting out of the house contributed a lot toward my getting as much written as I did last year.

I fully expect the site to be all-but-unreachable for a couple days come the first of Nanober...but hopefully it won't be as bad as it was last year.

Hi everyone!

I'm Clare, and I'm from Kingston. I've had good intentions to try this the last two years, but when Nov 1st rolled around, I chickened out. This year I'm determined to not wuss out again.

Hello everyone. You can call me Crow. I live in Luzerne County, and I am terribly excited for this NaNo. I am attending LCCC this year (it being my first year in college - any college, as a matter of fact), and with everything going on, it's gonna be tough reaching my word count goal. Who else is attending LCCC this year?

I hope you all the best of luck!

Hi all, new to PA. Live in Honesdale, so Scranton/Wilkes Barre looks like the nearest large area. Looking forward to this year's events. :-)

Welcome, Crow, dogboi, and Sedna! Glad to see our little group is growing. :)

We seem to have quite a few folks in the W-B area, and I'm thinking Barnes & Noble would be a good spot to meetup at least once. Would Borders in Dickson City be too far for you, dogboi, coming from Honesdale? We could try to meetup there, too. I'm in Laceyville, so for me, it's an hour to either location.

Since NaNoWriMo officially starts on November 1st - a Saturday - I don't want to have a kickoff that day. We'd be better off using that weekend to seriously boost word-count instead of jabbering about our novels. So how does the weekend of October 25-26 look to everyone? I'm not sure about where we'll be doing this yet, but I just want to see if that weekend would be okay - I'm thinking 1:00-ish for the meeting time?

Oh, and if you've got kids who are interested in this, they're welcome to come, too - sign them up with the Young Writers Program. All events that I host will be G-rated. (I can't vouch for events other members may run. Your tastes may run to R-rated, and that's okay, too!)

I'm in Dickson City often, so no, it's not too far at all. I also make Wilkes Barre fairly often, so I could probably make Barnes and Noble a few times. :-)

Barnes & Nobles by the Wyoming Mall? That would be awesome, since I have no clue where Borders would be. Thank you for the welcoming! Glad to see I'm not alone in this. :D

Hi to everyone. This is gonna be fun. Do I hear an "evil cackling laugh"? Love it. Maybe ignorance is a good thing about now? Borders, BN. Either works for me. Gives me the excuse for a taco at Don Pablo's if Border's gets the nod. One for the road, so to speak. Yum.

It just occurred to me this evening that we have a library and two book stores here in Montrose. I'm going to print out a couple of flyers and run by there this week to see (a) if they're doing anything for NaNo and (b) if they want to. With any luck I can get at least one or two other people here in the boro interested in our particular brand of insanity.

This is my first year participating.
The Barnes and nobles in wilkesbarre is about a half hour from where I live so that would be an awesome location!

Nice to meet all of you!

Hi!

I'm Lorri, I'm new to the area, just moved here from Jersey this summer. I'm in Kingston. This is my first year for this challenge and I'm real excited. I've been talking about writing a book for years and this is the year I'm going to do it.

Glad to see some more people are joining us! Looks like Barnes & Noble is a good place for us to meet. I'll call them this week and check on the availability of us using some of their space the weekend of the 25th for a kickoff. Borders is still very much an option, too, since I work in Scranton, and I'd be happy to drop by there a couple of evenings for write-ins and such. And if there is at least one more person in Montrose, I'll pop up there for a meetup, too. I know we had another Montrose writer last year, so if she comes back, we're all set!

I only have internet access at work, so I may pop in here sporadically, but I'm here and working on getting some stuff together for kickoff packages. NaNo HQ will be sending us stickers to commemorate the event, but if you make it to the kickoff, I'll have some handouts and stuff, too.

Also, our coordinator of regional activity has decreed that we are now officially a region! Come on over to http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/3015585 where the Pennsylvania:: Scranton region is located! Please also make sure you affiliate with this region - go to your profile and select it as your home region. It will make it easier for me to locate you, and send email updates if I need to. :)

Hi Lorri! I just moved from Jersey, too, but that was back in February 2008. :D I have visited my hometown many times beforehand, because it was my best friend whom I was visiting! (Now I live w/her - it's awesome!)

Where in Jersey did you live?

Hi Crowcatalyst

Nice to hear from another former Jerseyian. Last place I lived in Jersey was Burlington, but I lived throughout the Central NJ area over the years. I love living up here its soooooo much nicer than the Petro Chemical state (NJ).

Ohhh, I see. I lived in Cumberland County before, near Cape May + about an hour away from Atlantic City.
I agree, it is nicer in PA. Where I lived, it was considered the middle of nowhere... And it had swamps around it, meaning LOTS of green heads &mosquitos. There are more creepier crawlers up here and less flight bugs... which I can handle that better. :)
It's so weird as well hearing people in college saying "Oh, I took a trip to the beach this weekend!". I kind of pause and stare, because I've been to the beach hundreds of times, no problem. Every week when I was a kid my grandparents took me to Wildwood, I believe.. so, I mean.. yeah. I forget we're so far away from an ocean... :P

Howdy folks, back again for more insanity.

Maybe this year I'll make a meet-up, though I have been saying that since 2003. Nice to see a lot of people ready to begin 30 Days of Argh ;)

Incidentally, I am still in Courtdale, just between Larksville, Pringle, and Luzerne. Some day we'll get a traffic light here.

Glad to be here!

Hi, I'm Sandy and I'm back for my second year. I can only hope I will do as well as last year. I live in Dallas, work in Pittston, and spend a few weekends in Wyalusing, so I am kind of all over the territory for write ins wherever.

I don't have my story very well planned out, which it probably won't be, since I haven't picked a plot and I also have a 20K goal for GothNoWriMo this month. I may have to try that "No Plot No Problem" approach.

Oh, and I have a volunteer event on the 26th early AM, so I'm not sure I can go to the welcome event, but I will be thinking of you all!

*~~~much love~~~*

Howdy! I'm a student at King's College. It's my senior year, so I don't know if I'll be able to rationalize participating or not, but if I do, I'll be writing a dark fantasy adaptation of Little Red Riding Hood and its variants. As a over-scheduled, carless college student, however, I doubt I'd make most of the meet-ups

Hello, everybody! I was part of this group back in 2005 and I haven't seen anyone since, but I'd like to. I used to live in Mountaintop, near Wilkes-Barre, but I currently reside in Selinsgrove at Susquehanna University. I'm MLing here but I'll be in Mountaintop/Wilkes-Barre from time to time, so I'd love to get to a meet-up.

The 25th at B&N would be perfect for me as I'll be in from college that day. It would still depend on time, but I'd probably be able to get there and bring along a few participants from Mountaintop.

Sorry, I've been offline until today. We don't have internet at home right now, so if I'm not at work, I can't check in. And hubby was home from NC this weekend, so I wasn't at work. :)

Barnes & Noble in Wilkes-Barre seems to be the popular choice, so let's make the kickoff Saturday the 25th at 2:00 p.m. I'll be either near the cafe (in the cookbook section) or inside at one of the tables. You'll be able to easily identify me in my neon-yellow, official ML t-shirt - I'll probably light up half the store!

Please RSVP if you plan to be there, so I can plan my handouts accordingly.

Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Hey, Ryan! Good to see you back here again.

I expect it to run about two hours, depending on how many people are there. Hope you can make it!
