Welcome DeKalb Wrimos to 2008!!!

We will have our regular first and third Sunday meeting at the Barnes and Noble off of Route 23 next to target from noon to 3 October 5, 2008.

Barnes & Noble Booksellers
Oakland Center
Oakland Place Shopping Center
2439 Sycamore Road
Dekalb IL 60115
815-787-3234

We will have the collage-o-rama at the DeKalb Library from 1:30 to 3:30 instead of our regular B and N meeting October 19, 2008. Please bring old magazines to share, poster board and a glue stick for yourself. Feel free to bring other collage type things. The point is not to write your novel but to get in touch with some aspect of it visually.

Here are the urls for the library and for a map for wrimos not from DeKalb:

http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=309+Oak+St+Dekalb,+IL+...

Our TGIO party will be at Rosita's Oct. 25 from 6-8. All are welcome and please bring your muses!

Once we get the technical bugs fixed, we will have a link to the DeKalb Wrimo Google calendar posted here in our regional forum.

The google calendar is up and made public. If you aren't careful, you'll miss it. It is the small red print right above the thread list. Click on the red comment and you will see the google calendar. It is set on month but you can change that. It also defaults to the month we are in. Therefore, as are no more DeKalb Wrimo activities in Sept., it will appear blank. Just click over to October and see our three activities scheduled so far. I will upload stuff for November soon.

Hi all!

Apollo 16 asked me to pop in and re-iterate some points about the collage-o-rama. The whole point of the collage is to get the sub-conscious part of our brains lubed up and ready to go. So there is ONE rule for collaging our novels. Don't over-think the process.

We will not be illustrating our novels. We can't. We haven't written them. This is to give us a visual clue about what we like about the idea that we're going to write on.

I'll bring some posterboard for us to use, but if you want to bring some of you own, or even plan to make a run to Michaels, then think about getting some at leat 11X17, so you have room to work with. Larger is even better. If you find yourself in the posterboard aisle, just think about you novel, and grab the first color that catches your eye. Don't worry if you think your going to be writing a Victorian ghost story and your paper screams '60s mod-citrus green. Go with your first instinct.

The same goes as your flipping through magazines. If you see somthing that catches your eye, add it to your file. Don't wonder why you have a Honda in your inter-galactic homage to Tolkien. You'll figure that out later.

Also, if you have any pictures of conflict, or pouty, angry faces, that you aren't going to use, bring those along for the rest of the group. We will need conflict.

Hopefully, when we're done, will have somthing that we can look at as the clock strikes midnight to inspire those first words, to help remind us why we wanted to write this story when we are cranky and tired, and to play with along the way as our plots take twists and turns we didn't see coming.

So, to summarize, don't think, just collect. And bring your extra magazines for the rest of the group. We'll recycle what we don't use.

Happy collecting.

Hey there, I just joined this region yesterday and this is my first NaNoWriMo. Anyway, I can't make any of the Sunday events because I work third shift and I typically sleep Sunday afternoon. However, I have a bunch of magazines I wouldn't mind donating to the cause, mostly Metropolis, Dwell, Blender, and Wizard. I just hate seeing them go into a landfill so I've been trying to find a home for them.

I'm not in DeKalb every day, but I'd be happy to drop them off with someone if I can make it up there sometime before the collage-o-rama.

Oct. 5th: three showed up. Our prompts were short lists of words picked randomly from books around the store, which worked surprisingly well. We recommend this technique, especially for when you're stuck in November. It'll be our secret weapon against Perth (bwahaha).

Sit down at a typewriter and open a vein, huh? NaNoWriMo: my annual hemorrhage.

Yay!!! DeKalb writing group!!! I missed you guys. :D

Qadaffi! I'm sorry you won't be joining us. You'll have to try and sneak out at least once. :)

Bad news - I can't make the collage meeting (really, with my track record, is anyone surprised?) but...
Good news - I CAN come to the kickoff party AND (if all goes well) I'll be bringing a muse. Happy times. ^.^

Even better news - I'm running NaNo again with my middle schoolers and this year I already have 20 kids ready to go!!! That's double what I had last year, and we aren't even half way through October yet. I'm so freaking excited!!! ::dances::

::hugs all around:: See you all soon!

~Jen

Welcome u6crash!!

Those magazines would be a GREAT addition! I have an office at NIU. If you want to leave them there, I can take them to the collage-o-rama. Nanomail me if that can work for you. I hope that you can make the kick-off party at Rosita's!

And...PERTH SPLIT?! Let's try to convince them to give us the group WITHOUT Junaberry. Without Qadaffi, she'll make us look bad! :-P

P.S. Junaberry is now a Northerner. Ozedge is a Southerner.

So...Qadaffi...are you still a part of the DeKalb group? I mean...do we have your wordcount as our WMD in the war on Perth? I certainly hope so!
