Greetings Boston Wrimos!

Anna (QueenOfTheUniverse) and I would like to welcome you to National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) here in the Hub of the Universe, also known as the United States :: Massachusetts :: Boston region. We’re very excited to be your municipal liaisons for the third year in a row, and we’re looking very forward to making this year the best ever.

We always kick off the festivities with a Meet and Greet (M&G), held the weekend before NaNoWriMo begins. We will be providing some light refreshments, but we encourage you to come by, get whatever you like, and join us for a couple of hours of camaraderie with your fellow novelists before the madness of the month begins. The location will be announced within the next few days.

More information on upcoming events can be found on our Google Calendars page (which will be linked from this website soon). Anna and I will keep this updated with details for upcoming events. As I write this, it’s rather early in the month, so we’re still working on scheduling events for the month. However, we’ve got our basic plans in place: Two write-ins a week, one on Saturday afternoon and the other on Tuesday evening after normal working hours. We hope that by spreading the days out, we can get more people in for events, and that by keeping the days consistent we can give you more time to plan your attendance. (By the way, we love crowded events. Really. The more the merrier!)

More details will be announced as the dates draw nearer, so keep an eye on the forums and your e-mail boxes for details. And of course, feel free to e-mail Anna or me if you have questions. We always answer questions within 24 hours, and usually sooner.

Cheers,
Travis (tkphotog)

Welcome Boston Wrimos!

As the second half of the Boston ML team, I second everything Travis has already mentioned above. Events are sure to be a blast, so don't miss a single one. You'll regret it if you do. We're working hard to ensure you have the most fun possible. BTW, Elmo, our "official" mascot, says 'hi' too. This will be the best year for Boston, according to the little red, furry monster and I'm inclined to agree.

I have class on Monday and Tuesday nights. :( Anyone for informal write-ins on Wednesday or Thursday? I'm looking forward to the group write-ins on Saturdays, though!

For all you new folk, or folk who were too timid to come out last year, our MLs are fabulous and put on AMAZING write-ins. Boston is pretty much the best place to be part of NaNo!

Are we going to organize a New York/Boston Challenge this year?

It's a little early to be working on challenges with other regions. Anna and I are still working out scheduling and details for our own events, and I'm sure the New York MLs are working on their own plans right now as well. We haven't ruled anything out, but we're not far enough into our own tasks to make that decision yet.

Keep an eye on the forums; if/when it happens, you'll read it here first.

Cheers,

I'm really looking forward to this year! Thanks for the details - I'm trying to arrange to get my Tuesdays free for the month of November, but I think my weekends are already alright. This year I'm going to make a bold attempt to have a solid idea BEFORE the first day I need to begin writing so I don't have a road block fiasco like last year - eek! What a rebel I am! Thanks for being so on top of this! And tell Elmo I miss him!

Hello, all! I'm new to Boston, but this will be my third year putting pen to paper maniacally through November. I regret to say that I work a typical 9-5 and then I also have a second job that takes over my evenings, so I likely won't be able to make any write-ins or meet-ups. :( Blah. I do hope to keep in touch here, though, and maybe I'll get a rare day off or two during the month.

Just thought I stick my head in here. I'm in a good mood right now, because my computer decided today was a good day to work. Hopefully it will stay that way through November. Can't wait to see everyone at the write-ins. Hopefully I'll be able to actually make it to the opener on time.

I did Nano in Boston last year and I have to let the newbies know that you're in for a treat (the vets already know this). Travis and Anna are a blast and work their butts off to make November a fantastic month. I'm in South Korea teaching English, so I won't be joining you this year, but I wish you a productive month.

I have a DRIVER'S LISCENCE this year. That means I can come to the occasional write-in, especially as I will have survived physics and chemistry by then.

I'm looking forward to this year as well. However, I'm a first year college student, so time will probably not be on my side. But I already have a pretty good idea of what I'll be writing and hopefully this year it works out and I get passed the twenty thousand words...Anyway, I have access to the commuter rail (it's pretty much right across from my dorm) so I'll hopefully be able to make a few of the write-ins.

Hey there guys--it's great to see some familiar names AND some new ones here already--I really hope that I get to see you all at the Meet & Greet.

It's Ye Olde Randy Pinion, coming-up-on-fifth-time NaNoWriMo participant. I've only won once (last year), and I definitely attribute a big part of it to going out to write-ins and meet-ups and generally having a wacky time with you guys!

I've got a class till 7PM on Tuesdays, but assuming our write-ins go later than that, you can always expect to see me there then, and obviously on Saturdays.

Past that, I do have to be the bearer of some bad news: those of you who may remember my shorter, surlier friend, KPourmand from the last three years of NaNo will likely be quite dispirited when you learn that he won't be attending this year. He and I started here at Boston University together in 2005, but he graduated a year and a half earlier than me, so he's now in Maryland, working as the Sports Editor of the 2nd biggest newspaper in the state--so huge congrats to him!

But hey, having two loud-mouthed, semi-perverted, super-sketchy looking fat, hairy men at write-ins was probably a bit much anyway. You'll get to make due with just one such person this year!

P.S. - Mageta, irascible, anytime you guys are up for some BU-centric writing (assuming you still work here, irascible), drop me a line. . . ditto for any other BU students! Besides, I'm pretty sure that you live down the block from me this year, Mageta. . . CREEP!

Hey everyone!

I think I only made it to a single write-in last year (which may be why I didn't win... hmm...). It'd be great to meet some more Boston writers, hear about your stories, and hear about your past NaNoWriMo experiences. I'm a decent writer, but a better web geek, so if anyone needs advice on where to find information, or what nifty web tools are available for writers, let me know; I'm happy to help others.

See you around. :-)

Hi, everyone! I doubt I'll be able to make it to a write-in, since most evenings I'm at home taking care of my daughter, but if there's anything happening in Harvard Square I'll try to make it!

Hey ya'll...last year I did this to support my friend Alys but this year I'm doing it for me. I figure now's as good a time as any to commit to this, you know? Besides I ALWAYS bite off more than I can chew (right now taking a grad class, applying to BC grad program, working full time at one job, part time at another, plus studying for the GRE's and now this!) but this seems like something I could really get into this year. I do wonder, however, if write-ins ever happen late on Saturdays. On Saturday evenings I work till 6 at the Cambridge YMCA lifeguarding and would love to meet up after to chill with some awesome peeps and pound away those 1667+ words a day. :) Also, if anyone is in the Simmons area or the Davis Sq area and wants to meet up to cheer each other on and type till your fingers fall off I'm all for that too.

So excited!!!

Hi All,

So I am totally new to this whole NaNoWriMo. I'm nervous and excited. I'm hoping that I'll be able to make it to some of the write-ins. Hope I can get through this!

Nija turtles are awesome. I actually just recently watched the movies.

Just wanted to say that Travis's e-mail got me all psyched up for this year's Nano.

I totally remember when Irascible gave us our motto - I feel like I was in that conversation, in fact. Irascible, do you remember offhand?

However, I just wanted to say that I was actually one of the 3 Friday write-in regulars (my schedule last year had me working during the official write-ins, but off on Fridays). The b.good next to the Back Bay T station is an awesome place to write, if you happen to be around there and you need somewhere. We also found that Trident on Newbury St was cool, but it notably lacked plugs. Which can be a problem when you're a thousand words in and your laptop starts beeping at you......

In any case, I'm free nights now (new schedule!), so hopefully I'll be able to make it to all the (official) write-ins this year, and maybe some unofficial ones. I look forward to writing with all of you again!

PS - For those of you who remember "bandanna," she's in Switzerland, happy, and wishes she could be with us again. She's also thinking of starting a Swiss Nano chapter!

Wordspinner, I do in fact still tragically work here on campus. :( So I will definitely be up for some BU-centric writing! I will need all the opportunities I can get!

SocioTom, I do remember that... I'm not sure under what context I came up with it, except as some sort of exclamation due to my abysmal word count early on in the month. It was just a good thing to say in horror. I'm sure many an opportunity will arise to use it again this year!

I'm already getting excited for the meet and greet! I only have the faintest idea what I'm writing about this year (I have my sub-title, but not my title, and a few aliases for my cast) but I think it's going to be fun!

Shout out to all the Boston writers and especially the BU people. I'm first year MFA (screenwriting) at BU, so I'd be up for some on campus writing. Also, I like to write around different spots in Boston, so let me know if anyone wants to do an unplanned session and crank out some words.

Looking forward to it.

I still feel like a total butt for never making the b.good and Trident write-ins last year, seeing as how I was super close to both last year. . . further now, but they're still do-able (And for anyone who was at the Ben & Jerry's write-in, how awesome was THAT? woooo)

As for on-campus stuff, I'm sure we'll talk about it more in Nov., but just to say, I'm fairly close to everything but far-out Allston/Brighton stuffs.

And gah, my only guide for my novel this year?

hi~ hopefully this year i can at least make more than 1 meeting this year.... questionable considering i have a fiance now who's main indication for visit day is saturday...and a meeting on tuesday nights.. :/

and Wordspinner, lol... i'm leaning toward making a parallel story with a newbie friend who is not able to come to write-ins or anything thanks to the fact that she plans out her schedule a lot more than i do. XD we're using a mary-sue litmus test and tweaking a harry potter not-sue challenge for an RPG we're in... a triumphant return to fanfic for me. ;)

Hi Ghostlight,

I'm at Wheelock, so if you are interested in some late night COF write-ins or something fun, I am once again available for
collaboration and hang-outage every now and again. Any other COF students around (specifically Wheelockers, Simmons girls,
and Emmanuelites, I'd say, to keep on the safe side) are also
welcome to join me during late night Fenway-area moonlight writing bonanzas.

After being plagued with roommate problems and schoolwork last year, I've GRADUATED (woo!) and am super excited to participate in NaNo this year.....and FINISH for the first time....Third time's the charm, I guess!

Wordspinner - we'll have to do another BU writein, that one we did at Shelton that time was probably the most writing I did at any one time last year! Heehee. :)

Hey. First-time Wrimo over here, wanted to say hi. Looking forward to the write-ins, it always helps to have people focused with you. I live near Coolidge Corner, so if anyone that direction wants to get together and increase our word count I'm in. May you all put pen to paper or fingers to keys.
