And so we begin again. I am the ML for Athens, OH and the surrounding area, returning for my third year. Historically we only get a very few participants -- single digits -- so we'll have a real chance to get to know each other quite well.

This year I'm hoping that we see more people who aren't Ohio University students. Those of you who do go to OU are of course the backbone of our tiny group, but most of you leave the area before NaNo is over. I'd like to add local resident authors into the mix as well. We've had a few nibbles before, so I'm hoping we can encourage them to join in and come to meet-ups and write-ins.

Our venue of choice last year was Donkey Coffee's second floor, which seemed to work very well for everyone involved. If we do get more people joining, we might have to find somewhere with a bit more space, but for now I foresee this should continue to be our meeting place.

This year I would like to encourage more participation from all of you. The past two years, no one has had anything to say about group activities, and I'd like that to change. NaNoWriMo is as much about the group experience as it is the writing madness. Planning for meet-ups and write-ins, suggesting activities and interacting here on the forums are all part of the fun! Don't be afraid to speak up.

At the time of this writing we have over a whole month to get ready. Take some time to introduce yourselves to each other. If you'd like to get together some evening in October, that would be fantastic. I'm looking forward to a great year with you all!

Woo!

Um, I'm actually working midnights now at a nursing home in Coolville, but I don't go to work til 10, so I could probably still swing it if I drove like a madwoman. (If? Ha!) Also, I now have a laptop so I'm not just sitting in the Donkey drinking too much caffeine and twiddling my thumbs.

Participation stuff, participation stuff, participation stuff... I have a lot of time at work to brainstorm stuff, so I'll make sure to do so then. I would be all for an October pre-Nano meetup, by the way! It sounds like a blast, and it'd be good to work out our novels as a group again.

Is your schedule pretty much set? If so we might be able to work around it. If we have enough people, we could also do multiple nights, with Friday or Saturday evenings for the college crew and another evening during the week for other folks. I have pretty much no life, so I'm available all the time, so long as I can hitch a lift.

Unfortunately, it isn't. =/ For instance, I just got my schedule for October tonight, and even that is HIGHLY prone to change, especially when my coworkers have to call off for emergencies and things. I will try, as soon as I get my Nov schedule, to switch around with others so I've got the meet-up nights free. I hope you guys don't mind me showing up in my scrubs. -.-

And you know I'm good to give you a lift! =D

Absolutely no problem with scrubs. I know enough medical and health care people that scrubs just look like clothes to me. :D

I'll see about poking Erin (Shoeless) and see what she's got going for October.

UHM. I'M HERE. TOTALLY HERE. I RAN THE WHOLE WAY. I'M *wheeze* FINE.

Howdy folks! Glad to see some of us are back. Donkey 2nd floor works fine for me. Also, I'd love to see some pre-NaNo meetups to maybe do some character or plot-building activities. Or talk about Doctor Who. Whichever.

I'm doing a new genre this year, so let's hope I don't botch it! HUZZAH!!

Would you all mind a crasher from Parkersburg? I joined the West Virginia Elsewhere forum but so far only one other person from Parkersburg is on there and I'm not sure how likely it will be that we will have any events. I really want to do a write-in so I don't feel like the only looney doing this and since we are right on the Ohio border, Athens is the closest region to me. I actually used to go to Ohio U I'm a Scripps dropout-yay!) so I am used to the drive because I commuted. I want some Nano friends!!

By all means, come join us. You're welcome to join the United States :: Ohio :: Athens region too, if you want. We could certainly use the enthusiasm!

I am back in Ohio, so by all means I must make a pilgrimmage down to Athens this year in November. After all, it is the only year I won Nanowrimo. I miss this single digit zany meets with the creative energy.

Corvus, TheShoelessOne, anyone in here alive?

Two years ago I got about 13k words in before a week-long family trip to a cabin in the woods sucked up all my time and killed my drive. Last year I intended to participate but ended up being too busy at work.

But THIS year! Oh ho, this year I have a brand new Moleskine that I'm going to damn well fill if it kills me.

So now that Nano has started, do we have any events planned? I'd totally be up for some write-ins and mutual encouragement sessions at Donkey.
