Welcome one and all to the Memphis Regional Forum!

I'm Jenny, one of your Municipal Liaisons. This will be my seventh year participating in NaNoWriMo and my third year serving as ML.

If you haven't already, please affiliate with the Memphis region and make it your Home region (this way your word count will count towards our region's total word count.) To do this go to My NaNaNoWriMo > My Regions and find Memphis in the list. Click Join. Then go to the Home Region tab and select Memphis as your home region. Click Set Home Region and viola! you're a Memphis Wrimo!

Pretty soon we'll have a thread letting you know about all the stuff and events planned for the month, but in the meantime, use this thread to introduce yourself. Who are you? How long have you been doing NaNo? If you're a newbie, how'd you hear about it? Do you know what your novel will be about this year? And all those other burning questions you've been dying to answer. :)

Hi! I'm Karen. This is my fifth year doing NaNo. And yes, I do know what my novel is going to be about. It's the sequel to a non-NaNo project I did last year.

Can't wait to see everyone return, and meet some newbies.

Hi, I'm Katt (...not my real name but just call me that, please) and despite the site saying I just joined, this will be my 4th year doing NaNoWriMo. I have a general idea about what my novel will be about, more details to be sorted out. :D It will be nice to meet newbies and see the veterans alike again! Maybe this year you might actually get me to talk at a write-in!

Hello Everyone, My name is eensybeensyspider aka Cylithria. People call me Cyli or Lithie. I Have been doing (and winning NaNoWriMo) since 2000 and I used to be Michigan::Flint's ML before moving south with my Blue Suede Shoes. (Yes I own a pair, Yes I wear em. w00t) This is my third or fourth year (The years fly by wow.) as ML and I am so honored to be Co-ML'ing with Jenny!!!! I'm also the Moderator for the Military Lounge (or i will be when they re-instate Moderator Powers) and am obviously starting this year's 10th anniversary for NaNoWriMo off with a lot of parenthetical moments (because I mean come on, parentheses are uber cool in a totally annoying and freakishly weird way)

My "I" key is also sticking which means I am gettng annoyed at my missing 'i's grrrrrrrrrrr.

Uhm so yeah, I'm weird, I'm here, it's NaNo's Tenth Year and we're all gonna be (to coin a song) "Writin' in Memphis....Writin with our feet ten feet off of Beale....Yeah we're writing in Memphis....."

Ciao folks

the eensybeensyspider

w00t - told ya I was weird :)

This will be my third year doing nano. I orginally heard about Nano from my talented and beautiful heart daughter. It sounded easy. Just type 50,000 words in a month, 2,000 words a day (have to stay a little ahead). There isn't any grading or judging. No one is deleting words or making fun of grammer (okay... other nano's will gleefully point out shortcomings if you ask them). I thought it would be a fun way to start writing again. It was.

The craft of writing is challenging. My creative energy drains during the year. I spend less time trying to write. Nano gives me a chance to recover that burst of joy in writing. A chance to develope characters and ideas that I might not try while focused on mechanics. A realization that I can set times to write in my busy schedule.

This year I am going to write a story where the main character lives in the dreams of others. I think I will call it Sleeping Under Quilts.

Glad to be back.

Hello! My name is Jess and this will be my first time participating in NaNoWriMo. I'm veryvery excited, not only because this is the first time I've actually plotted something before writing. :D [Though, to be honest, I'm not sure how that plot is working atm, but still. I have time.]

Argh! I did this already.

I'm Num, or Aaron, or anything in between.
This will be my fourth NaNoWriMo and hopefully my second "win" -I would have won the other two years, but I didn't. I blame my wife. So there.

Um, this year's story is the second or third in a series I have thought up but not yet written... It follows the adventures of a slightly depressed, one-handed psychic and his partner (who happens to be a ghost rat), as they work with a time traveler attempting to locate and shut down a real estate agent.*

So. Um, yes.

Welcome all, old and new, young and old, tried and true, green and blue, me and you... what?

*Based on a true story!**

And now you know everything.

Hello! I'm Beth & this will be my 3rd Nano. Hopefully my third win, as well.

I think my novel this year will be a murder mystery set on a farm/comound set in a "semi" post-apocalyptic world. I only have about a half a page of notes, so far, which is par for the Nano course.

Hey, Beth! Hey, Aaron! Welcome to NaNo, Jess! Yeah, you're definitely not alone with the plot problems, but there's plenty of time to work 'em out.

Hi. I'm Rebecca Cage. That's not my real name, it's my pseudonym but that's what I'm going by here. This is my first year actually doing NaNoWriMo. I was gonna do it last year but ended up being bribed into doing a friend's collegiate English papers for her. *rolls eyes* So needless to say, I'm getting really excited about jumping in this year. My novel is going to be called Learning To Live. You can find a synopsis on my profile page. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone!

Hi!

I'm Carolyn and this is my first time trying this (and my first time hearing about it). I heard about it on a podcast presented as a great way to challenge oneself.

I'm not quite sure I have a good handle on what my novel will be. I'm thinking about it. I'm not even sure how much I should have prepped before November 1.

Hi there! I'm Diana, the one responsible for getting frogqueenlinda into all this. :D

I've tried Nano unofficially for a few years. Last year was my first official time going to meetings and everything, and I thought that it was so fun that I'm going to do it again this year. Hopefully, this is the year that the Glam Rock Murder Mystery that I've had in my head forever will get written!

Counting down the days till November ...

I'm Paul, and this is my first year. One of my friends told me I had no choice but to do this. I've had an idea in my head for a novel here and there. Hopefully I'll be able to get this going.

Hey everyone!!! SO glad to meet other NaNo hopefuls in Memphis!!!!

This is my first year doing this, and I am really excited to see if I can take the challenge! I learned about it through a recommendation by my favorite Harry Potter FanFic author, Tierfal. She is so talented that I had to try it, but I'm nervous. I am happy that you guys are all here for support.

I am currently working on something... piratey... but I think I am going to try to find a new idea. I don't think I would be able to resist editing that baby! Is there an idea generator anywhere like with Script Frenzy??

Can't wait to get to know ya'll Memphians better!!! SEE YOU IN NOVEMBER!

Hi all, ruby here. This will be my third NaNoWriMo. No idea what i'm going to do this year (other than waste writing time puttering around the forum.) The big day approaches. I'm laying in a stock of snacks and doing some concentrated reading in the hopes of sparking a new idea.

Hi Everyone! For those who don't know me, my name is Mary. I've been here every year since 2003 and look forward to it each and every year. :-)

Dev and co., I looked for Nano related postings on the Word Catchers boards but didn't see anything. I know I've been absent, but wanted to poke my head in and say "hello." It's been an interesting year. Can't wait to see y'all at the write-ins!

Hi, all. This is my first NaNoWriMo and I'm eager to get started. After attending a writer's conference last weekend, I'm feeling inspired and loving the story idea that came to me on the drive home. Since I have three weeks before I can start writing, I'm going to spend the time outlning and writing out character sketches (that's allowed, right?) I've never been that organized before, and I hope that it and NaNoWriMo will help me finally FINISH a novel, after numerous false starts.

BTW, I'm Lisa, and I look forward to cyber-meeting all of you.

Greetings everyone!

My name is Jim, but my handle is astr0wiz, a quirky pseudonym that I coined years back when I was heavy into astrology and the like. This is my first try at NaNoWriMo, and I am particularly excited about getting started.

My novel will be a run-of-the-mill dungeons and dragons kind of tale. I plan on making it humorous in the vein of the late Robert Asprin Myth novels. My protagonist is an unemployed gladiator, having lost his job after the wealthy religious elite successfully lobbied for and got a series of anti-violence laws passed.

My aim is to create a tongue-in-cheek, politically satirical tale with all of the stereotypical sword and sorcery claptrap of the fantasy genre. All comments are graciously welcome.

Hi, my name is Sheri. Although this is not my first time, I am still very much a newbie. I signed up for this back in 2003 and didn't last long at all. The friend who I recruited, however, not only made deadline but presented his work in paperback to me as a Christmas present. Five years later I've pushed all humiation aside and am ready for another go. I dreamed up my storyline months ago while visiting Chicago and reading Paulo Coelho. My biggest worry is that I won't be able to maintain my own voice throughout this work. I have a horrible habit of mimicking whomever I'm reading at the time.

Hi all, this is my first year participating in NaNoWriMo. I am working on my first wip, and after finally nailing down my characters, GMC, and tentative synopsis, I am ready to get started. I am hoping that by the end of November, I will be at least 50K words into my novel.

HI all,

I'm HGL - and this is technically my second year trying NaNo. The first year was a bit of a flop.... Oh, and it's my third year knowing about it.

I am an EMT-IV in training, and I love it..... though my sleep schedule doesn't love it quite so much. This NaNo month I'm in the middle of the second phase of clinicals my class has to do before we're allowed to consider graduating. I'll be running "participation clinicals" with the all mighty Memphis Fire Department. I'm hoping I scored Nov. 4th and 6th as my clinical dates - but that schedule hasn't come out yet so I have no idea.

I don't know what I'm doing yet this year - I've got two ideas I've been kicking around for the last couple of months - and I'm not sure if I could get anywhere with either of them. I hope to try and get something pulled together in the next few days - but I'm not sure how well that can pan out since I'm also starting a new job at Rural/Metro Ambulance. ><

HGL
