Hello and welcome to all! Welcome back to those of you returning. To First Year Wrimos, welcome to the game! I sincerely look forward to speaking with each and every one of you. I have a weakness: I love people.

So, usually we have a forum used to welcome and introduce everyone, so here it is. I've already done the welcoming, so, why not have everyone introduce themselves? Here, I'll go first so no one has to be shy.

My name is Megan. I'm known on the internet (and NaNo) as machorse70. This is my 2nd year MLing, and I couldn't be more excited for the month of noveling ahead. This year, I have things to say and a story to tell. I write and read mostly Lit-Fic. I'm slightly mis-placed: I study English at Boise State (yes, I'm going back to school), and I'm a staff accountant at a small CPA firm in Meridian.

What about you? I'm sure you're much more interesting.than I. Tell us who you are, what you read, what you do, your pet alien's name, whatever you care to divulge. Just please, keep it PG-13, and, as always, no insulting or otherwise demeaning another WriMo on the boards, and all that other fun stuff. If you need help along the way, I'm here to guide you.

I'm Sam. I don't know how long that I've been doing NaNo. Too long. Or, is it not long enough? I can't say I've won, well, I can, but I'd be lying. I read sci-fi, fantasy, absurdist (you can put that in front of any other genre, it applies), non-fiction of all sorts, holy texts (a weird sort of middle ground there, eh?).

Sam! Megan! Nice to see you again. :)

I actually just moved to Portland last month, but have decided to stay connected to this forum because you can take the boy out of Boise, but you can't take the Boise out of the boy. Or something like that.

Anyway, I'm Josh, I'm 25, and I've been NaNoing since 2002. Haven't won, but I've got a good feeling about this year ... especially since the economy is so bad and I can't get a job! haha, I have all the free time in the world!

The name's Sam (as well). this is my first experience with write-a-book-in-a-month-thing. 20 years old, on my junior year of classes. 1 year of utah state, 1 year of boise state, currently taking a semester off to figure out what the hell i want to do. living at home right now, moving into the downtown area in 2-3 weeks. i dig music. don't know what i'd do any minute of any day without my tunes. if anyone ever wants to recommend me music or talk music of any kind, open it up. i'm always obliged.

my writing: ...tends to be saturated and "thick", where most of the time, it's even difficult for me to re-read and comprehend what i just put down on paper. if anyone is familiar with chuck palahniuk, michael crichton, or douglas adams, my writing style would be an off-color hybrid of the three. other favorite authors include orson scott card, daniel quinn, george orwell, and c.s. lewis.

looking forward to dumping my brain on paper.

Hey all! My name is Alicia, Spiderwebb123 on nano. This is my 3rd year doing Nano, and my 3rd year at Boise State. I actually have a car this year, which I'm excited about because I haven't had one before. So if there are other Nano's on/near campus that need a ride to the Kick-off party or write ins let me know. I typically read/write fantasy, romance, some mystery, some adventure. I currently have a trilogy that I am working on, two of which have been started during Nanowrimo. The first of these two I knew where I was going, the second of these, the one I did last year, started out as a completely different novel with all new characters, but it has become the 3rd book in my Essence of Power trilogy. I have NO idea what I'm doing this year.....but that will come with time.

My name is Alek, I am 18 and live in Caldwell. I have been nanoing for a couple years but never won and usually on a solitary basis. This year I am going to try to change that though.

I just graduated High School, no money for college just yet. I live with my boyfriend in a cute little apartment. I have a cat and a beta fish. I am writing a historical fiction this year with a touch of fantasy to it. My first year I wrote a memoir, and my second a novel about a man who loses his mind (essentially.)

My copy of No plot? No problem! came in the mail this morning!

My name is Alison. I'm known online either as ghostbardew or, more recently, by my pen name of choice: amguynes. I've been doing this since 2003, although I lost in 2003 due to getting interrupted 6 days in by the birth of my oldest and then last year I also failed because we were in the process of moving in and getting settled in our new place after moving BACK to Boise from Port Angeles, WA. I was Boise's ML for two years before I moved to Washington. Still have my "Why yes, I'm in charge" t-shirt from then too. *grin*

I primarily write fantasy and science fiction, with the occasional poetry or songs that would be known/sung by my story characters. I've been writing since I was old enough to hold a crayon (my dad still has some of my stories from when I was in elementary school....and boy are those embarrassing). The fantasy world I write about, and which this year's novel is going to be based on, I've been building now for 14 years.

I'm a CSR for a cell phone company during my night job, a mother of 4 children - ages almost 5 (turns 5 on 11/06), 3, 2, and 8 months - and a wife to a very irritating but supportive husband who will be fighting with me for domination of the computer in November. LOL

And yes, I know my user info says I joined November 12, 2007. That's because I couldn't remember my user info for my original profile on here, couldn't remember the password, and the email that it was tied to was long since deleted. So I rebuilt my profile under my pen name of choice.

My name is also Allison, spelled with two L's though. Huh, two Sam's and two Al(l)ison's. That's a little strange.

I haven't won before but my friend won last year. Actually, the reason I didn't win was I started about 10 days into November and I totally changed my story a couple days after that, so 12,000-ish words were pretty good considering...

I'm not very confident in winning this year because of school and work, BUT I consider NaNoWriMo a good springboard to getting my ideas onto paper/computer screen. Eventually, I loved to be published but that will only happen if I actually finish writing a book.

I like to write about historical fiction and I like science fiction too. I actually read more mysteries but I find that any mystery I've attempted to write has been very cliche. So I stick to historical fiction because I like history, as scary as that is for some people.

This year I'm going to try to write a "near future" story but that's all I'm going to say for now...

First timer here. This should be exciting...

Lessee... Quick little bio here, huh? Well, 35 year old male who actually answers to "Sareth" (My mother has even called me this on occasion.) Did almost ten years in the army, including a tour in Bosnia and two in Afghanistan working on Apache attack helicopters. Out for medical reasons now, so I'm working nights at an info center as a DA civilian while attending BSU during the day. Spring semester should be the end of that, although I'm looking seriously at going for a Masters afterwards. Oh, and though I work and go to school in Boise, I live in Murphy. So yeah, time to actually write is going to be fun. two classes a week, 40 hours at the job, and two hours driving every day... Whee!

I enjoy fantasy and sci fi mostly, though I also enjoy the occasional military, history, mystery, and horror. I'm also an Anime and Manga freak. I spend a good deal of time online as well. I do a good deal of Roleplaying both online (text based) and off (traditional tabletop.) Oh, and I occasionally draw, but I'm not all that good at it.

Anyway, it is my intent to mix my enjoyment of fantasy with my interest in History to do a subversion of the traditional fantasy. Instead of a world where people have been using the same armor, weapons, and magic tricks for thousands of years, the dwarves always live in mines and every last one of them are miners while all elves are graceful magic using noble lovers of the wood, my dwarves will have an extensive society filling all the roles needed for a functioning society (such as... say... farming) and will have recently developed technology to roughly that of the U.S. in the 1850s. Elven society will be strongly stratified, with haves (the nobility), have-nots (slaves and surfs) and a small middle class that aren't trusted by either. While they will be more "at one with nature" in their approach to things, this means they'll be much more medeival in their tech and how they approach questions such as feeding their population. And it won't be magic weilding heros facing off against one another with massive barrages of magic spells. Instead it will be a massive, ugly war with no real winners. And it won't be magic AS tech, it'll be magic VS. tech.

Hello!

My name is Jeannette..I live in Meridian and am raising 3 boys with one on the way. This is my second year participating although i can't say i got very far last year...I have a lot more in my head than I've ever written down so I'm hoping to make the big leap this year.

I really don't know what genre im writing..women's lit? But I'd like to rewrite the real story of my grandmother's life (not a biography--but one woven with elements of what was real and what could have been). She lived out her life in a mental institution from the time she was in ther 30s until she died (after raising four girls) and after researching what I had hoped would have been a case of instituationalizing her due to the views people had on depression in that era--came to find that she was truly mentally ill. I want to rewrite that story--with more meaning, and with perhaps, a more poignant ending.

Looking forward to being among encouraging people online or in-person if my busy mom schedule permits.

Hay!

Some of you might recognize me from last year. The name's Casey Jewels when online, and this is my second year doing NaNoWriMo. Last year was my first go at it, and I won (probably due to my parents telling me I couldn't do it, and me wanting to prove them wrong). And I have a good feeling about this year as well.

I'm a Senior in a small town high school, and have been writing since the sixth grade. My interests include: reading, writing fantasy, daydreaming, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Naruto, anime, chocolate, magic, werewolves, and Norway. Just to warn you, I have been bitten by a werewolf, so I am one as well. But you don't need to worry too much about that; I haven't harmed anyone during the full moon yet.

I am also LDS, or Mormon. This year's NaNoWriMo is my Choice & Accountability project for Young Women's. For those of you who have no idea what I mean by that... Young Women's is a church program for female teens from 12-17. The boys have their own version. In this Young Women's program, we have a booklet with different challenges and stuff to complete. It's kind of like Boy Scouts, except that it's meant to prepare girls for the responsibilty of being the wife of a household, among other things. There's seven big sections, which are our seven values. And after we complete all of the little things in that section, we have to complete a project. So, that's what I'm doing now--my Choice & Accountability project.

So, that's about it for me...

Thanks!

I have only two and a half projects left, and I have until the Spring, so I should easily be able to get it done in time (especially since NaNoWriMo takes care of one of those projects).

And Avatar is my favorite show ever! I just saw the finale about a week ago, and it was amazing! I hadn't been able to see the finale when it aired on TV, so I had to watch it through Netflix. But now I've seen it, so I'm happy.

Hello everybody!

I am here again under a new username and a new mission. Who I was before is not important (although you might remember me as a Ghost of MLs Past with orange hair and a purple tail). Who I am now is a 7th grade English teacher planning to facilitate the NaNo Young Writers' Program at her school this year!

I'm nervous and excited. There are a lot of young literary minds here but I know it will be a lot of work. I'm not sure what my noveling will look like throughout the course of the month, but I'm hoping to at least get a few thousand words on paper. It's been four years since I won NaNo and I'm really determined to do it again... someday. My first year teaching, while running NaNo as an after-school program, may not be the year. But we'll see!

Anyway, I'm double enrolled on the regular NaNo site and on the YWP site, since I may be wanting some help/support from the "normal" world come November. Best wishes to everyone, and wish me luck!

Hola!

I'm Luke, and this will be my first year winning NaNoWriMo. Or, you know, writing 3k words and then bragging about my new novel to friends. I'm a 20-something, who will be living in Boise at start time, though I'm in Nampa now. I write mostly literary fiction. I don't have many writing credits to brag of, but I won the Boise Weekly Fiction 101 contest last year and will be entering this year as well.

I live with a talented author also, and I plan on calling her soon to cajole her into a literary frenzy. We'll see how that works out.

Welcome!

It's going to be a blast this year. I predicting that all of our Boise writers will make or exceeds the 50,000 word goal.

Once again welcome.

I love getting to read about everyone and who they are and what they'll be doing for NaNo! Keep it coming! Also, please scroll up to the top and peruse the intros...if yours isn't there, please re-introduce yourself (there was a crash last week, and some data was lost...nothing I can do about it). It's rather helpful to know who all of you are!

Welcome all! November is shaping up to be quite the month, with many surprises in store. Keep it coming!

Sam!
Douglas Adams: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Life the Universe and Everything and The Restaurant at the End of the Universe. Wonderful reads!

Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.
Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

He had an amazing way of tacking on a thinking phrase to something easily read. He took you beyond the realm of clearly obvious and into the possible.

Welcome aboard

Hi Megan and all our Boise writers.

I just checked the welcome list and noticed that mine wasn't there, so here goes.

I'm over on the east side of Idaho, Lewisville is called home. We've lived in Idaho less than two years and moved here from Washington State (miss it).
I've done the nanowrimo two times before and crashed both times. This year though I'm going to make it!

About me: I'm a mom of four and two granddaughters. We have two dogs and two cats. The joy of our life is our boat. She's a 36' single masted sail boat. She's moored in Liberty Bay up in Washington State. One more thing; I have a 1965 and a 2007 Ford Mustang. Between all that and reading I'm kept content.

I look forward to each one of us making the goal mark and owning the awards ceremony.

inhale and breath, it feels good

Hey y'all. My name's Terry. This is my fourth (I think?) attempt at NaNoWriMo. Tried a sci-fi story in '05 - phasers were set to "total failure." Tried a fantasy stint in '06 - that was a bit of fantasy thining I'd finish....I got to a psuedo-climactic fight and didn't have the heart to kill who I needed to. Tried a non-fiction stint in '07 to play off my goofy life in high school...got a lot of stories, a lot of memories and only 2/3 of a story to prove it all existed. lol

My life is structured for most of the days (secretary/receptionist/go-fer/guru of a lot of stuff) but my nights are now free to do with as I please....well, at least until my show is over on October 11th. I write a lot of different things but find that the odd and surreal tends to drive me toward writing. Things that don't seem to go together - magic and prayer, technology and nature, the office and the supernatural - are my happy place, and they drive me.

I apologize if, at times, I appear acidic or mean. I'm just really sarcastic. But just talk to me for a while. I'm a good guy, just not a "nice guy", y'know? :) But I wish everybody nothing but the best of luck and I pray that the muse finds you and may work through you to create something you can truly be proud of, finished or not.

Hi. *waves* I'm Rhonda, or Saifai if you're looking for a username.

This is my fifth year doing NanoWrimo. I've only finished two of the years I did it, though in my own defense I went through a divorce through two of the years, and was in the hospital for another. What can I say besides life happens.

I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to do this year, though as in years past I'll likely stick with a vivid dream and build on a story from there. Mostly likely something scifi/mystery based.

I read a lot of books. I'm going to have to cut back during November if I'm going to get any writing done. I work full time with special needs kids in Boise during the day, so I'll have to carry around a notebook with me to jot down brilliant ideas as I get them.

Here's hoping to finishing another book on my fifth anniversary!

Hi,

I'm John. This will be my 3rd attempt at NaNoWriMo. I've yet to even break the 10,000 word mark, but I feel really good about this year. The last couple years had a lot of stuff going on that I don't think will be happening again. Anyway, I've lived in Boise most of my life with only a few years where I lived in North Central Idaho. I usually write/read fantasy/sci fi, but I'm not sure where my book's going to be classified this year. I'm writing about something that as a gamer I think a lot about, luck. I haven't really gotten too far into the idea other than it'll be set in more or less our world at more or less this time, but will probably have a bunch of flashbacks to the main character's ancestors. I don't really know much more than that though...

Well, Good luck to everyone.

Hullo!

I'm Aimee and this is my third attempt at NaNo as well. I'm afraid I have a tendency to hand write everything first but this year I'm going to try writing directly onto the screen. I'm handwriting the outline so that should rescue me from the twitch to scribble.

Anyway! I'm in Boise and I write advertisements for a living. I celebrated the birth of my only son in January of this year, so NaNo is going to be extra special fun with a 10-month-old wiggling as I read him portions of the previous night/day's (do we really recognize the difference during November?) work.

Nice to meet all of you!

Hello there! My name is Malorie and I currently reside in Boise, ID--the loveliest little corner of the world, in my opinion. I am 21 years old and I am currently not a student. I took time off from school to move to Boston to explore a little bit, and to write (of course). This is my second year doing NaNo, but I am afraid that I did not accomplish my goal last year. I was a very solitary NaNo-er, and I didn't take part in the forums. In all honesty, I don't really think I was aware of regional forums. :) Anyway, I am looking forward to the coming month of writing, and I am hoping to acquire a few buddies throughout the process. Happy writing all!

Hello all,
My name is Neil and I have a problem... wait wrong meeting.
Anyway I do have a problem. I write and have this strange desire to bring upon myself the desire to bang my head against my keyboard. Repeatedly.
This year is probably going to be 30 days of robots and assassins. Apparently I'm not the only one to take my fictional revenge in November. But I hope to be around to some of the get togethers this year.

Fair Warning

Hi, I’m Carolyn, and last year I wrote the first pages of my novel in the Salt Lake City airport because my flight was late. According to Southwest Airlines, the plane was infested with bugs and they were looking for a new one. Three hours and several hundred words later, the replacement plane arrived to take me and my husband home. Good times were had by all, except for the bugs, who were exterminated in California.

Coincidentally, this year I will once again be in SLC on November 1st, but this time my husband and I are driving. The only bugs on this trip will be plastered across the windshield of a nondescript grey Honda. Ha!

In spite of the surreal beginning, I managed to “win” last year. So now I have to go and try it again. I have no idea yet what my novel will be about. Possibly some form of Fantasy/Geek Chick Lit with Zombie Ninjas. I swear if this isn’t a genre already, it needs to be.

Stuff about me: I’ve been a booth babe for both a gaming company and a company that does drug and alcohol interventions. Incidentally, you can’t wear the same outfit for both. I am a devoted fan of Kenzer & Company and their games—specifically the old school tabletop RPG HackMaster. My husband is an awesome gamer guy who is considering signing up for this novel writing month thingy himself. I like cats, dogs, Mini-Sharpies, G.I. Joe, Batman, Iron Man, glitter eye shadow, lip gloss, and my iPhone.

Good luck to everyone! And may your next flight be totally free of bugs!

I'm Kim. Hvnlykarma online. This is my first NaNoWriMo. I write non-fiction and have been working on my book for about a year. I look forward to this gig because it will be a good way to get a lot of what's in my head down on (virtual) paper. I'm a single mom of a seventeen year old son who has Down Syndrome, work full time for a marketing company and manage two blogs. If you're interested they are: http://www.serenitynow.today.com and http://thenext24.blogspot.com.

In spite of my tendancy toward social anxiety, I think it would be great to meet all of you. Oct. 31st has been suggested and while no date/time is going to work for everyone, I think Halloween night would be perfect!

Right, then...I'm off to cook dinner.

Hey Saved_by_Counterbalance, where did you live in Washington?

We just moved back to Boise last year from Port Angeles.

Hello everyone!
I've lived in Boise for as far back as I can remember, though I was born in California.
I'm going to BSU (3rd year) and majoring in computer science and I've got a job doing janitorial work in the student union building.

I have no idea how to go about writing a novel (or short story, or chapter) so it's guaranteed to be terrible; but you gotta start somewhere, right?

As for my real name... it's a secret ^_^.
And with that I bid you adieu!
