Hello fellow Philadelphians. I thought I would start a topic for everyone to introduce themselves. I would like to suggest everyone give their name, location in the city/suburbs, participation history, and genre of this year's project.

My name is Daniel, from Lawndale. This is my fifth NaNoWriMo year, but I have only won once. The only year I won was the only year I went to a kick-off event, so maybe there is something to that. This year's project is planned to be Science Fiction.

Hi I'm John, age 43. This will be my third year doing nano. This year should be particularly interesting because I recently accepted a promotion a work and will be traveling during part of the month. If Chris Baty is correct that it helps to be busy, then I should be fine. Good luck everyone.

I live in Northeast, Philadelphia. I have a 3 month old son and a hectic work schedule this is sure to be an exercise in madness I look forward to it.

Hi! I'm Clare, I will be 22 by the time the site is supposed to have opened (my birthday is October 1st, this is so weird, I have usually aged a year by the time NaNo comes around again), and I live in the Northeast--Rhawnhurst, to be precise. This will be my fifth year doing NaNo and it will damn well be my fifth year winning. It's my first year doing it outside of college and my first year that I'll be in Philly all month. I hope that Philly is a fun place to do NaNo because Maryland was awesome and I'd hate to think my NaNo experience will decline!

Hi,

My name is Jaime... I'm 21 and I'll be turning 22 during NaNo this year. I'm from Annapolis and I just graduated from college in DC, and now I live in East Falls- so this'll be my first year doing NaNoWriMo in Philly. It's my 5th year overall and hopefully this'll be my 3rd year winning. I work about 60 hours a week but it'll be fun to unwind and let the novel happen. My genre will probably be some sort of New Weird or surrealist fiction. I'll be working in a high school so maybe I'll get some of my students involved.

Hi everyone! I'm Katelyn and I live in Havertown. I'll be 17 in December... gosh, I feel awfully young. This is my first year doing NaNo- I heard about it last year but was too late to join. I'll be working on a memoir that I've been planning on working on for a few years now about when I was hospitalized with anorexia at age 13. I hope that NaNo is just the sort of thing that will actually get me writing on a regular basis!

Hi, I'm Lutra. I'm 20 and live in Malvern and go to school at Immaculata University. I'm a music major, that would change majors if it wasn't too late. Been writing pretty much forever, and this is my third NaNo. Won last year and hope to win this year despite the difficulties of the stuff I'm still working through. Gah.

Hi. I'm much older than anybody else. Is this going to take youthful energy, or would post-menopausal ZEST suffice? I live in University City, and this is my first NaNoWriMo year/month. This idea for a novel has been slowly taking shape; I don't think it will be commercial, so why not see what's in my brain that, once on paper, looks like a novel? That is, right now I'm thinking of NaNoWriMo as brain-dump, rather than art. Whether there's that much in my brain that wants to get dumped on paper remains to be seen.

My name is Kristine and this is the first time I am participating in NaNoWriMo. I live in Paoli. I guess you could say my genre is chick lit. i have never done anything like this before so I am excited about the challenge.

Look forward to reading everyone's work and getting tips and advice.

Hey all. I'm Katie, I'm out in the 'burbs, in the West Chester/Downingtown area, and I also hang with the Norristown group here. This is my fourth year doing NaNo; I won for the first time last year. I'm not quite sure what genre mine will fit in this year, though I'm thinking it will probably end up in the sci-fi area (maybe "speculative fiction").

Hi! Joe here, in Lansdowne. Forty-freakin-nine years old. And I'm still vain about my hair.
Third year participating, haven't won yet. 50K is a lot of words, and I think too much while composing. Been working on that.....

Hi ALL! I'm Christine, aka on the net as PurpleCar. I have two small kids and I'm a SAHM. This will be my 3rd Nano, won once, didn't win last year but got another 33,000 words towards my novel.

I'm in Haverford Township. Hopefully we can have a group of us out here to meet up at MilkBoy Coffee in Ardmore one or two of the nights of NANO. I have a laptop this year so it's major meet up time for me!

can't wait to meet you all in person!

Roll Call :-)

Nicole, 26 years old, Second NaNo.

I've got an idea of what I want to do for my novel. Check out my profile for more info. It's just a rough sketch. I'm about 90% sure it's what I want to do, but I want to research some places before I go all out on this.

I'm in Montco. Borderline Bucks County when at work.

*sigh* I am ALWAYS late!

Hey! I'm Jillian, Jill, Sweetz, Sweet, whatever, I respond to them all.

I'm a student at Temple, I turn 21 tomorrow! woohoo! *dances*

I've tried and fail at nanowrimo every year because I have a massive case of backspaceage disease. I can't seem to shut up my inner editor, he's always yelling at me!! *note: I'm really NOT insane.

I'm playing with two stories I started outlining, one over the summer and one just this school year. They're both completely different so I'm not sure which way I'm going yet. We'll see. It might be awful hard for me to manage this this year, but I'm going to try!

I love, pumpkin pie, lattes, hot cider, hot chocolate, yummy delicious pastries, happy chatter, the utter delirium that comes with writing and hopefully sitting in a cafe in Center City somewhere with some of you enjoying all these things. I've never been brave enough to meetup before but I really want to win nano this year and I might need the support!!

(:)

This is Katie, your worthless ML take TWO! (The harddrive crash lost my last post) Thanks, Daniel, for getting the ball rolling! =D

I'm 21, a senior at Drexel University, and currently working on my Senior Project in Screenwriting and Playwriting. How I'm going to find time for everything, I don't know, but nothing ventured, nothing gained, right?

I'm Ellen. 22, live in Chestnut Hill, and this is my third time doing Nano. I think I first did it in 2000 and won that year, then 2001 and didn't finish. I'm not sure of this year's genre (or anything else, to be frank).

Hi, I'm Kaitlin. I'm 17, and I go to Temple. This is my second time, and I won last time. Try to keep it up, yes? :) As for the genre, I haven't quite decided yet...fantasy, probably.

Hey there. Jim here, in Center City. I've done Nano once before. Didn't "win" but got a lot out of the experience. Non-Nano, I've had a novel and a non-fiction book published by legit commercial publishers. 43yo. Dayjob in advertising.

Hey everybody, I'm frank, living in Upper Darby. 29 years old First timer here. Got a decent idea that i'm starting to outline. I'm a student at DCCC, where most of my writing will be done. I'm interested in doing some coffeehouse get-togethers for writing and support.

Hey all, I'm Zoe, 19. Originally from the Main Line but currently residing in University City. I meant to do NaNoWriMo last year but forgot about it completely until about Thanksgiving. So this is my first official year.

Melissa here. I'm in Bucks County. This is my 7th Nanowrimo and hopefully it will be my 6th win! I started grad school last year and just wasn't able to juggle everything. This year I know I'm probably not more likely to succeed (I'm also doing an internship!) but I'm going to attempt and redefine anything non-academic written in November as a success.

Hello to you all! My name is Connie. I'm 21 and live in Mt. Airy/work in Rittenhouse Square. I am originally from Southeastern FL. This is my first year participating in NaNoWriMo. My friend Joanna (username spring) told me a bout NaNoWriMo last week and I am very excited! I have no idea what genre my novel will be. My goal is just to write without following any rules and see what comes of it.

Hello, my name is Randy, and I live in Garnet Valley. This is my first NaNoWriMo. I'm 15 years old, and my story is Science Fiction (speculative fiction is probably a better description, but it wasn't an option and Science Fiction is close enough)

I'm Laura in Lansdale. This is my 5th year and I have yet to "win" (although last year I completed my novel in Nov). I'm a SAHM with two sons (my 6th grader is going to attempt NaNo again this year at the Young Writer's Program). I write science fiction or fantasy, sometimes urban/dark fantasy. Not sure what I'm doing this year because no story has stuck in my head. I usually write from a rough outline, but I don't have one yet.

I've not done any of the NaNo events in the past-- my main writing time is during school hours M-F, which doesn't seem to be a popular time :) Maybe this year I'll be able to get to a few.
