Hey, I'm a student at IWU and was wondering if there are any others of us around the Marion area. :) I'd love to get together and chat!

I'm in Marion and use to go to IWU (a long time ago LOL ). This is my third NaNo and I am looking forward to it. I have been working on a Non-fiction project all year and I am really hungry to write fiction!

I am open to giving NaNo support and receiving it! Just add me as a buddy.

I live in Marion! It's a small town but it's home. :) It would have been better if I had grown up on a farm but... Hey did you know that Jamie on the Myth Busters was born in Indiana?

This is my third NaNoWriMo attempt. Welcome aboard!

I work at Marion Public Library, where we have Write Turn, a writing group that meets on Thursdays. Our next meeting is 6-7 p.m. Oct. 23 in Meeting Room A.

We will have NaNo get-togethers on the first 3 Thursdays: The first, in Meeting Room A; the second and third, in the Conference Room upstairs. We won't meet on Nov. 23 because it's Thanksgiving. I'll see if we can come up with a kickoff before that.

Last year, a few of us got together for write-ins at lunchtime during the week. We met at Tree of Life, Starbucks and Folkies.

Hope to see y'all in person.

Pegleg Kitty

P.S. A patron here at the library said he picked up a used laptop for under $300 from IWU's adult ed program. Apparently, the students surrender their laptops upon finishing their degrees, and the university sells those to the public. A laptop sure makes writing a lot easier! (Just one tip -- go online and find a custom vinyl laptop cover. It will keep that Venti Starbucks from falling into your laptop. Not that I'd know....)

Yay! I'm so excited that there are some other NaNoers in Marion!! At my other university, I had to drive 45 minutes into Saint Paul to find people. XD

I would love to meet any/all of you! I will make an effort to make it to the Write Turn meeting this week, but my memory is pretty sketchy most days, and I don't think I actually know where the public library is. (Eep! What kind of writer am I?!) BUT! I might be there. :D Do people usually bring laptops/notebooks, or what?

Can't wait to have some write-ins. :) I miss them. Hopefully I'll see some of you soon, and good luck on NaNo if I don't!

Hi! I'm a student at IWU/Fort Wayne. I'm about 45 miles from Marion but it would be fun to actually write with some of my fellow students.

Hi kids, and hello pegleg kitty! Paulsnextwife here, wishing you all loads of success on your novel this year! I live in Marion, and IF I do Nano this year, it will be my fourth one...with no wins yet I'm afraid. You should go to the library and meet pegleg kitty if you can...she's a great gal and will be very supportive!

Hey pegleg k...have you seen or talked to loralee lately? Is she doing it again this year?
I haven't even completely decided if I'm doing it again this year or not. I always have health issues this time of year, and you'll never believe this...I went back to work! Ok, it's only 15 hours a week, but it's still cutting into my groove...

Anyway, good luck to all, and HAPPY NANOING!

Hey everybody, I'm from Marion too, and this is my first NaNo...I'm really looking forward to the upcoming month of writing, but I work third shift, so it may be difficult getting together with people...

My name is Rose Marie Wolf. I live in Marion. I'm a published author (four paranormal books published, one on the way), but this is my first NaNoWriMo. I've hit a writing slump and I'm hoping this event will help me get out of it.

I would absolutely love to come to the Write turn meetings, but I have a class on Tues/Thurs. It's too bad we don't have a bigger NaNo following. A big ole kick-off party sounds fun!

It does sound like fun, but I would have to do it on Tues or Wed as I work the rest of the time.

So! Change of plans. XD I'm moving back to the Chicago area within the next few days, so I probably won't make it to any write-ins. I've had some medical issues pop up, and so I need to be back at home where I can take a break from school and get back on my feet. So! I might drop by for a visit sometime in November, but we'll have to see how things work out.

I'll be cheering you all on and struggling towards that 50k a few hours away. :) Happy writing!

We had write-ins at noon on Mondays. Would anyone be interested in that day and time? Or would Wednesdays or Fridays work better? Wednesdays and Fridays work best for me, though the Friday after Thanksgiving would be tough.

My favorite place to write is Starbucks. Some folks like Tree of Life, and surprisingly, Folkie's worked well, though it's a bar and you have to be 21. (It's fairly quiet once the lunch rush disappears.) And we can get space at the library; I work there and can reserve a study room very easily. OK, in truth, anyone can reserve a study room. Just come upstairs to the reference desk and sign up. It's free.

Hi, I'm in Marion. I used to run a Writer's Club in Marion, but it kind of fizzled out when we moved it to Beatnik's and then that went out. I would love to get together with other people! Pegleg Kitty, where and when is next meet up?

This is the first time that I've tried the NaNo, but I've had this little story brewing for years and my husband says it's time to finish it and get it published. He wants to retire and live off me for awhile! LOL.

So, here we go, time to get serious. So, let's get together, bounce stuff off each other and do this!

I started a separate post about write-ins. If you plan to write someplace in public during NaNoWriMo, just post the time-date-place on that post.

As for plain ol' commisseratin', we're doing that 6-7 p.m. Thursdays (Nov. 6, 13 and 20) at Marion Public Library, Meeting Room A for Nov. 6 and the Conference Room for the 13th and 20th. We may meet Sept. 29 (Saturday) to make up for the lost Thanksgiving meeting date. More info to come on that.

Beyond NaNo, Marion Public Library sponsors Write Turn, a writing group that meets on the 4th Thursday of the month. Seeing as Thanksgiving and Christmas eat up the next couple months, we will meet again in January.

There's also a writing critique group that meets at lunchtime at Tree of Life; I think it's on some Mondays.

You work at the library in Marion? That's interesting. I'm always in the library getting books. I've probably seen you out there, though I'm not sure who you are. LOL

I'll be at Ivy Tech tonight from about 5:30-8pm. I have class, but I'll be long handing more to add to my novel, I'm sure!

Come on by tonight -- Thursday night -- for our 1st meeting. I'll be downstairs in Meeting Room A at 6 p.m.

If not, I'll be at work all day the next couple Saturdays.

Hey, gang, we had 7 writers show up for our first commisseration session. It's a great start.

We chatted about living in Liverpool and on Saturn, the KKK and Transformers, winning the lottery and quitting smoking, writing a constitution and a lot of other stuff that went on in parallel conversations. We discussed our first words, our word counts, our strategies to get this thing finished with our dignity intact.

Well, except for PaulsNextWife, who could care less about dignity. She just wants to make it to 50,000 words. She's going to do it this time, if she has to do it kicking and screaming. Probably with a lot of screaming, but that's another story for another day...

We hope that some of you can make it next time. Even if you can't make these sessions, maybe you can join a write-in. Again, please post in the other thread if you're going to be writing in public.

Hope to see you soon.

Yes, PegLeg it was interesting! I enjoyed Paul's Next Wife. Even if she is a Beatles fanatic. LOL.

I am hoping that I will make it back from Bloomington in time next week. I may not make it til close to the end. Hopefully since this is the last leg of the Autism Training they will let us go a little early and I can fly back to Marion. When I came home tonight and popped open the laptop I checked my word count. I really had no idea where I was at. I'm at 21,359. I may be in trouble. Can I not go over 50K?

Holy cats! That's a great word count.

You can write a bazillion words if you want. You might choke the counter around 1.7 million, but it's fine.

21+,000 words? That's insane katyjane! What I wouldn't give to have your powers of concentration! This weekend, I will be putting in my word count. It's a little over 7000 I think.

I enjoyed talking with everybody -- and those kids are really something, aren't they? Such big imaginations! I can't grasp the world I live in, let alone travel to other worlds or create brand new ones like they do!

I think I can make only one more meeting :( I signed on to do the Civic theater Christmas show, and I'll be at rehearsals. If I know I'm going to be sick every Novemeber, why do I always do the Christmas show? My life's a mess. Anyway, I hope we can get together for some write ins. Katyjane, it was a mind-blowing pleasure to meet you!

Good luck everyone! I'm cleaning house and writing today!

Just wanted to encourage all the Marion/Indiana elsewhere folks: Keep writing!!

My life is very busy and hectic, don't think I can find the time to squeeze any write ins in the schedule. But I hope you are all doing very well!

Anyone else finding time to write? Because I have to work for a living, my writing time is limited. Most nights, I'm too tired to even think about looking at the computer. My days off will be filled with extra word counts, trying to catch up on the days I've missed.
