Wow, an early re-launch of the site! How exciting! And... terrifying. Because November is getting closer and I have no plot!
Anyway, I just wanted to say hello to everyone. I did NaNo in 2006 and loved it so much, didn't get to do it last year, but this year I'm back and equally excited and scared!
So, hello Welsh folks! How is everyone? How are you doing with your novel planning?
Eeeeeeeeeeeeek - it's nearly November!

Hi Jai (and other people in Wales doing Nanowrimo!)
This is my first year doing Nano (meant to last year but uni work got in the way and it was halfway through November before I even remembered!). This year, however, I am ready and raring to go, excited and scared, simultaneously anticipating and dreading November 1st. I got a huge shock when I realised the site was back up early - completely threw me! Anyway, thought I'd say hi, as I'm sure I'll be relying on encouragement to get through the month (and am of course willing to give plenty of encouragement back.) Any and all advice from veterans is appreciated!
As for novel planning, I have a plot, and about half of an outline, but still have a lot of gaps to fill - my novel is set in a fantasy world, so I have a lot of backstory yet to sort out. Eek!
Looking forward to getting to know people on here (and maybe meet up?)
Good luck all!

Heylo :-)
I'm kind of straddling here & Oxfordshire at the moment - dipping in & out of both forums... I've been living in Oxfordshire for the past few years, but am (hopefully) moving back to Wales soon (umm... probably in November - eek?).
Somehow, I'm hoping that some form of writing (even if I don't manage to 'win' Nano') will help keep me sane through this, lol.
...and ...planning? what's that?
*grin*

However, I have no plan to speak of XD
Let's hope inspiration stikes soon!

Hi everyone! Nice to meet you all :)
I'm still undecided on whether to get myself into this yet (ha!) but it's looking likely. Did try last year but had too much work to do so am tempted to try again this year. But it would mean I'd need to finish my current novel before this one. Argh, decisions! :P

Aw, go on - you know you want to really!
What's your current novel about? Maybe taking a break to write something different for Nano will help? Not that I know anything, having never written a novel in my life before...

And I agree with Orbiting_Star - taking a break will be good for your current novel! *nods*

Hi to all!
Just surfing and found the site open early! Getting butterflies already!
Ive got a sort of plot that Ive been saving for Nano this year - as it'll give me the motivation to get it finished I hope or at least make a hefty dent in it.
Sort of plot means I have a character and a time zone (setting it in Carleon as the Romans are invading it)
Looking forward to our first meeting - can do with a drink just thinking about it!

Caerleon - ooo! I have friends who took part in the archaeological excavations there this summer. I've never been though - I really should go...
Meeting up - it's my first year, so I don't know how this works (who organises? etc) but would be cool to do so.

Hey all! I just moved (back) to Wales from Yorkshire, for university, so, hee. I'm in Cardiff University. Hopefully I'm not the only one... I have no plot yet, but since I need something fairly easy this November, I'll probably be doing fanfic. Final Fantasy X-2 cyberpunk AU.

Hello again to everyone! Thank god the site is back up, I was missing it so much! Two days with no forums in October is like one step away from hell! But at least they're back now, minus a few posts!
Soooo... Hope everyone's planning is going well. I'm getting really excited about November now even though I still have no idea what I'm writing!

Hello everyone,
I'm a newbie and feeling pretty excited about Nov. I've been playing around with a novel idea for a couple of months now and l'm really looking forward to moving away from the planning stage (which is starting to get slightly painful) and getting stuck into some actual writing. It's nice to find some folks on here from Cardiff and l'm looking forward to making myself a home in his corner of the site.

Hi Lisa - pull up a chair and make yourself comfy!
I know what you mean about the planning stage - it's great when ideas are flowing (which is why I'm up at this time at night - I got hit by an idea and have been scribbling things down), but I'm finding myself getting obsessed with details before I even know all the BIG STUFF. :-S It's driving me nuts not being able to write anything yet - I keep seeing scenes in my head and worry that I won't remember them come November. Thank God for note-taking!
Do post over in the 'What are you writing' thread and let us know what your novel is about.

Cheers for the welcome Orbiting_Star!
I know exactly what you mean about getting too obsessed about the small details when most of the novel is still a big foggy haze of uncreated nothingness. I'm still trying to decide whether it would be better to really develop my characters before l have plotted most of the book out so the plot can be developed around my characters, or to do it the other way around, with my plot being determined first and my characters made to fit the plot? At the moment l'm trying to opt for a kind of middle ground, but it's making me a bit crazy.

I think either approach probably works, but mine has definitely been a plot first, character second process. The very initial idea for my plot was actually something I dreamed about, and the characters in that dream were obviously not ones that I could write about (primarily because I was in the starring role!) So I added in some original characters, which then took the plot in completely different directions. Now I've worked out most of the plot, I'm trying to do some more detailed character work - I'm worried about my MCs being flat and boring, so I'm trying to practice write some scenes that aren't in the novel, but will give me a chance to find out what sort of people they are, what their motivations are, how they're going to change and grow during the course of the plot, why they respond to events I've plotted in the way they do. So many questions, so little time!

Hi all,
I did NaNoWriMo last year and survived to tell the tale! I did the 50 000 words and it was the hardest piece of writing ever. It was like walking through mud! I have kept meaning to go back and edit and rewrite it but just haven't been able to. I was never very happy with it but just kept going out of determination. In fact I haven't done any writing since!!
But here I am back again! And looking forward to putting myself through it again! Because I know I can do it!
As for planning and such like. I've got an idea. I've got two MC. I've got some scenes in my mind. I'm just going to let the writing flow. It worked last time. But it wasn't easy.
But if anything got me through it it was other NaNoWrimoers so lets stick together - go for it all!

Howdy all. :D
I did NaNo last year, and only just got over the 50,000 mark. It was so hard (I normally write drabbles and majorly short stories) but so much fun! Course, no one else actually understood why I was doing it (except my sister, who forgot about it the third day of the month and never finished, even though by the third she had over 5,000 words...).
So yeah, if you're in Lampeter and you see the fat chick in the shoe shop writing/reading... That's me! :D Not really supposed to but the boss doesn't always come down to the shop. Which helps.
Good luck to everyone! :D

Heya,
This is my first time doing NaNo, and i'm looking forward to the great start. Have some sort of plan started in my head and am rushing around to get it all down and readable before November begins.
i'm creating a young adult kind of story based on a new religion that i'm thinking up. I have a main character but no plot as such. Still waiting for that to arrive.
Hows planning coming.

Hey! I did NaNo last year but under a different name, because I lost my old account >_<
I'm Maddi, I'm 14 and I come from near Barmouth in Gwynedd! Me and my best friend are doing NaNo this year - well, I definitely am, I don't know if he is ;)
I can't wait for NaNo to start, I'm too damn excited! I can't wait until I leave school...I have to travel 40 miles there each day by train, and it's so annoying! I'm hoping to be in Bangor College and Uni when I leave school :D

Hi! :)
I'm not Welsh. I'm from Hertfordshire, but I'm currently in Swansea at university. This is my second year doing NaNoWriMo; I failed horribly last year, but I'm hoping this year will be different XD
Good luck to everyone
