I'm in the great metropolis of Granite Falls. Ever heard of it?

I lived in Granite Falls until summer of 2007. We moved to Longview in Hickory then. Don't seem to be many of us WriMos up here!

I'm trying something new this year -- going to outline my novel before I start.

Good luck to all! Maybe we can get together sometime during November and swap stories. Barnes & Noble in Hickory is good for that.

Regards,

TomB2

Hey, I live in Conover which is about 5-10 minutes from Hickory... Anyway, this is my first year doing this and I'm 17, so I'll have to balance this with school work and college apps. I already type close to 1,000 words a night on my RPs, so I think I may be able to get this to work.

The Barnes & Nobles in Hickory would be nice, especially since my mom works there *may be 17, but I can't drive*

Yes, Hickory....I know that place....Wait a minute; I live here! :)

Hey, I'd like to go someplace that has nice cushy booths; besides, Barnes and Noble is Never Quiet.

Did Nano in 2005; I hope I get to a thousand words this time; I mean, it COULD happen.

Getting together somewhere would be great. I'm not all that familiar with the Hickory area though so someone would have to pick a place.

This is my first year also. I'm not really nervous about it, just don't know how successful I'll be. It's something different to try though, right?

Any idea where we can meet. Someone said that B&N isn't quiet so............

Vale, Lincolnton, Long View, Granite Falls....It looks like we need somewhere along 321, except I don't want to leave our 17 year old out.

I'm OK with Barnes and Noble (though I do like cushy booths!). In hindsight, I suspect anywhere we get together will be noisy. We could meet there once and see if it works.

Barnes and Noble is located (from 321) I-40 east, exit 126. Turn right and get in left lane. Turn left on 70 East, take U-turn at next light (Walmart) and you'll see it just after IHOP on the right.

If that works for everyone, someone else set a date and time; almost anytime is OK for me.

Barnes and Noble is fine with me. I work until 1:00 p.m. on M-F and my son comes home at 3:15. That's pretty much my only time constraint. Saturdays work for me also or Sunday after church.

ZOMG, this is why I should like set up alerts for new posts in threads I make. A meeting and B&N would be amazing. I can do it just about anytime, do you think we could contact them about a Hickory WriMo kick-off party the night of Nov. 1st? I'd be short notice though....Still...I should call and ask about that.

I don't think it's particularly short notice, but there's several things to be mindful of: 1) It's a Saturday 2) LionHeartClan's schedule (when she has transportation) 3) We want to be writing on November 1. Can we meet just to get acquainted sooner? and 4) A call to B&N will tell us when the store is slow (less crowded, more room for US!).

BTW, last year I found Chris Baty's book, "No Plot, No Problem" at B&N. Some people might like it, but give it a good look before you buy. To me, it was only OK, not bad, not great.

My mom works at the B&N, so I can ask her about times and whatnot. Lol, it seems I'm the runt of the group; anyway I like the idea of meeting up before November 1. Oh...and I'm male

I got an e-mail about this book today actually. According to that information, it's a great book for writers. I've never even heard of it so I can't comment one way or the other.

If we're not set on meeting at B&N, those of us who live in (or within a few miles of) Hickory can do a bit of snooping to see if there might be someplace more quiet. It doesn't matter to me either way.

B&N's actually a good place to start, because it's right at the Community College and a variety of restaurants.

Another option is Patrick Beaver Library. Off 127 North at the SALT Block, it has a meeting room that can be reserved.

I don't think anyone will have any problem with transportation--L-HC, I live near B&N and can provide references for you and Mom. :)

Anyway, I hope I'm more helpful than confusing.

Kimberly

PS: Opps! L-HC, I'm sorry, SIR.

Okay, I'm gonna go ahead and take over planning the first meet. I've not got many options for the evening as I don't myself drive so I'm limited this week, but Maybe Monday or Tuesday evening of next week would work for people. If we have to pick another day that's fine, I'll just have to arrange alternative transportation for myself.

So I'm proposing the 28th, so that my NaNo participant brother can come with (and drive) me and we can stay out as long or short as we want. Also, a migration to Ihop(it's right next door) to eat together could be useful if it really gets going.

Any scheduling conflicts? I'm going to call tomorrow to see about good times to meet. Shouldn't be terribly crowded on a Monday/Tuesday I think.

I'm pretty good anytime after 3PM, any earlier and I'm at school. Otherwise, I don't see a problem with the 28th for myself.

Well that's a little unfortunate that not all of us can have the same time period free. I will do this, though, Me and my brother will be there between 4-6 Possibly 3-6 depending on when I get off work. I'll meet everyone I can for sure and try and get everyone's contact info to see if we can set up some write-ins or whatnot in November, sound good?

Hi,
Mind if I join in on the 28th? I recently moved into the Hickory area, and this is my first NaNoWriMo.

I'll be there, hopefully just after 4, more likely after 5, and I'll take over getting contacts after you leave if you want me to.

Kimberly

BTW, anyway we'll find each other, or just look for the people clustered and standing in the coffee shop? :))

I'll be the chick in a blue-ish sweater and jeans with a red 'Ask me about my novel' sticker on her shirt. More than likely accompanied by a jolly blond giant that is my brother.

So, the 28th is 2 days away. I don't believe we have set an offical time to get this thing underway other than just stating when we won't be available.

Well, It occurred to me I still haven't actually called B&N. Epic fail on my part every time I thought about it was outside office hours for who I needed to talk to. I say we just keep it an informal sort of meet and greet. I'll be in the cafe 3:30-6(blue sweater, red sticker saying ask me about my novel) with my brother (jolly blond giant) and his girlfriend (smiling redhead, Non-Wrimo).
We can meet and hang out and I'm sure it will be fine, discuss possible future meetings where I WILL call ahead to wherever we may be going.
