Hello, and Welcome to National Novel Writing Month 2008!

I'm excited, how about you? I have great ideas in mind for this year.

I remember that one of the largest complaints from last year was that there was no way for WriMos to recognize others when they would get together. I will have a table set up at the kickoff this year with flyers to hang at work/school/wall (or other places you feel like) advertising NaNo 2008, as well as table tents to take along any time you want to host your own write-in.

For those who are new, welcome aboard. Just remember, when the word count's low, you can't find the name of a character, you don't know what should happen next, we are here. These forums are a great resouce not only for connecting with others, but also for getting help for what's gone wrong. I'm always available via NaNoMail and here in the forums, and I'm sure that all of us here in the regional forums will be willing to help.

The second best resource, and I stress that to even returning, and vetran Wrimos is write-ins! Even if you can't make the local ones within 270, posting in the forums a time and date, to get others know what was going on. Going down to say, the local coffee house for a few hours to write with fellow writers gives you a creative boost that coffee can't help. Even if nobody shows up and it's just you, writing outside of your own creative comfort zone will boost word counts.

This is especially helpful in that second week lull.

The dates and times for things aren't actually cemented in stone just yet, but should be by the first or second week of October. However this year it should be a little easier to find out what's going on than pointing down at where we had all the events last year. We have a google calendar which eventually from what Lauren says, we'll be able to imbed here somewhere.

You can acess the calendar here!

Yay! I've been waiting for you to post something; it felt wrong for me to do it.

I have moved since the last NaNo and am now VERY centrally located. As in, like, a mile from the intersection of Broad and High. I am going to force myself to go to write-ins this year, because they are good for me even though I am a bit (okay, a lot) antisocial. Well, technically, asocial. I don't want to blow people up or anything.

Anyway. Yay NaNo! Only 32 days left!

Hey, that reminds me, I also don't have a laptop, but I actually do write-ins with a notebook and pen, then I transcribe it to computer later, sometimes i"m lazy and spend a few hours updating all the words I'd done. (At 70WPM it's not that hard on my side). IT may be not much, but even just writing those things down at the events makes it worthwhile.

Welcome back, Central Ohio WriMos! The early launch caught me off guard.

I really will try to be at some local NaNo events this year. I'll try to set up some (typewriter-friendly, of course) write-ins in my neck of the woods as well (Marysville, Plain City area, roughly).

Good to be back.

Thanks again to you, Chaoticpi, for taking on the ML responsibilities. I tip my big, Amish, NaNo-totem hat your way.

Cool, they launched the site early! Yay! I'm excited for nanowrimo as usual! I hope to get to more mini write-in's in the short north this year- I haven't been to nearly enough coffee shops in that area! I'm always up for north/central C-bus meetings too.

Whoo hoo, the most wonderful time of the year!
I'm so glad the site launched early. And I'm more glad that this year I'm in Columbus, as opposed to way outside of it, so I look forward to plenty of write-ins in the downtown-ish area.

Love the google calendar! Gmail users, note that at the bottom of the Columbus calendar, there's a little button so you can add it to your own google calendar to keep track of events. No events added yet, but looking forward to it!

25 days left!!!! and I'm getting my drivers license on October 25th (hopefully) so now me and my friend have no excuse not to go to write-ins!! I really want to finish this year. Last year I had a little over 15K because school work and getting my wisdom teeth out really got in the way. I'm a little scared for this year, I hear that sophomore year at my high school is much worse than freshman year, so I'm a little nervous. But I'm going to do my best. I may not be allowed to do NaNo though if my grades aren't good enough. If that happens, I'll do NaNo anyway, but with a lower goal then 50K. :)

Hooray! I've been out of the NaNo loop the past couple years but I'm really looking forward to it this year. Will definitely be at write-ins, etc. I live on the east side and work on the west side, so anything in between is fair game to me. :)

Roki! Good luck! My driving test is TODAY at 11. I understand how excited/nervious you feel.

Secondly, everyone says sophomore year is harder than freshman year. I didn't notice. (Of course that was what, 2000?) It might actually be a little easier because you know what high school's like now, and you have favorites on teachers and lockers and things like that.

I am looking forward to this year's event. I have participated twice and only finished once. I am committed to doing it this year. I am from Zanesville, if anyone else it, too.

I want to attend the write-ins for support.

Does anyone know which Panara the kick off will be at?

Morning everybody!
I am way excited about this year, but that is pretty much the theme around here. I haven't ever managed to make it to a write in because I live far away, but now I work in Reynoldsburg and go to school at CSCC downtown so I'm always around. The write-ins and the kick off party sound like a blast, but I work til 8 at the earliest on Sundays.

If anyone wants to make one of those write-ins East-side ish and go a little later, or if anyone wants to have a writing buddy that keeps later hours that would be awesome. Hope to meet you all soon.

The East-side would work great for me, as I am coming from Zanesville. I don't mind a little later, too. I feel that I need support and really want to throw myself into it this year.

Do you have suggestions for any write ins, regarding time and locations? Also, I am interested in having some writing buddys...all the support and encouragement I can get!

The email I got said the kickoff will be at the Panera near Henderson and High toward the north side of town. It's close enough to me that I could almost walk there (which I might do given that the parking lot gets pretty crowded on Sundays because of the church). Although it does say 2-5pm, so hopefully by then the church crowd will have left.
Here's what the email said about the two locations=
Kickoff:
When? October 26, 2008 2-5pm
Where?
The Panera at Henderson and High (Clintonville)
4519 N High Street
Columbus, OH 43214
MAP:
huge link to map (note that in the map on satellite view the restaurant hasn't been built yet...)

Why?
Free stuff! Well, that and the chance to meet the other people who you'll be meeting in front of the computer off and on again for the next November so it'll be a great time to meet and greet each other. There will be games, goodies and information that should getting together easier, like table tents, and banners and flags and flares (well, not the flares insomuch).

The Official Write-Ins!
When? November 2nd, 9th, 16th 23rd and 30th
Where: Panera at Bethel
875 Bethel Road
Columbus, OH 43214
MAP:
another huge link

Why?
Write-ins are known for having great record breaking moments in people's novels. They're especially wonderful come week two when things start to get down and uptight. Not only are you writing in writer-friendly environments but you are also out of your normal comfort setting. I don't know why this works, but it does. I have an idea this year of trying out word-wars with others. Where you try to match another's word count with yours within a set time period. The person with the most words within that time, wins.

Sounds fun, and I'm hoping to have a good time writing and maybe actually finish this idea.

I and a friend of mine hope to attend a write-in, perhaps more than one. I work at least one Saturday, so whichever Saturday I work, the following Sunday I might not attend. (I'll need rest thanks to my job.)

I've already warned my coworkers that I might be a little spacey next month, probably tired all of the time, too. But I'm pretty excited.

I'm so anti-social it's probably sickening, but a write-in sounds...interesting, and different, so I'm curious, I guess you could say, about if I'll end up liking it or not.

This is my first time participating in NaNoWriMo. I'm really excited. Right now I'm just doing research on my topic so I can get started with a bang on November 1st.

Good luck, everyone.

I'm definitely in for an east-side write-in! I work and live in Reynoldsburg, and with two small children, it would be great not to spend ages driving around town. I hope I can make it to the kick-off. Must remember to check with sitter about availability.

I tried NaNoWriMo in 2006 when I was pregnant with my second child, but as it was cold turkey, I reached the unenviable word count of 850. LOL! I've been researching and planning and getting ready since September - not eveHeren aiming for a November NaNoWriMo goal, but everything is falling into place!

Here's to a great year!!!

I'm also new to this whole NaNoWriMo thing and I hope to actually meet new people and actually enjoy writing 50,000 words. I think of it as an uber-long term paper...

Another first-timer here!

I've sat on the sidelines and cheers other NaNo's along but this is my first time giving it a try. I'm really excited (and determined!). It's great to see a support group of sorts has been setup for Central Ohioans as well. =)

I live on the eastside almost in Reynoldsburg if other writers in the area want to get together somewhere and commiserate together during the hard times, lol.

Only 4 more days left!!! /runs off

For those who know me, I'm around. Undecided on the writing this year, but maybe it'll be good for me to informally work on something. God knows I am at no loss for ideas.
