Hey all. Just checking in to get some feedback on the following:
1.) How many people are potentially interested in being on the team this year?
2.) Who shall we battle?
I have a few ideas to negotiate about how team members will actually be picked, but I'd like to get a sense for who wants to compete. And, while I have a few ideas about who we might possible unleash our mighty fury upon, I'm interested to hear who you folks think we should be challenging. Let me know! And feel free to send your thoughts and/or questions to wordwar@chiwrimo.org.
May your last 32 days pre-Nano be pleasant!

I'd love to compete. Last year was so much fun :)
I don't really mind who we battle, although it'd be fun to go against Toronto again. I want a rematch. xD

1) You can count me in. I had a blast last year, and I'm ready for some more Word War action this year!
2) Okay, I wasn't even on the team in 2006, but can we really go after Toronto 3 years on a row? I'm all about beating them, of course, but the humiliation if we happened to lose again! I say we tackle Miami or someone like that. Or maybe Ohio. I'm from there, and I'd love to take them down! Haha!
Anyway, whoever we compete, count me in hardcore!!

Yeah, I probably should've mentioned that I don't think Toronto is a good plan. New York, however, could be cool. Also, um, I might have moral conflicts with taking on Boston or Rhode Island (though I think both are a fair bit smaller than us anyhow). ALSO-also, what do you guys think about potentially taking on a whole (smallish?) country with similar numbers of participants?

I'd love to compete again as well--never mind that I don't have any idea what I'm going to write about yet! Last year was great fun.

I'd definitely be interested in being on the team!
And I suggest Ottawa, but only because they're my old region, and I totally want to pwn them ;)

I posted that New Zealand and I have been in talks, and if we're interested, we can take on the entire....island? Is that what we're calling them? LOL
Regardless, it'd be a challenge!

I've been on the Chi Word War team for the last two years, and I've found that it's a great motivation to pump out the words. This November, I'm going to be on a transatlantic cruise for the first half of the month... what's a better way to pass the time when sitting in the middle of the ocean than writing a novel?
I don't have work or school holding me back this November. 2008 is the year I hit 100k... if not more. Count me in. Whether we rematch against Toronto or take on someone entirely new, I want to bring our fine city to victory.

I'm happy the Sox lost. I was born and raised a Cub fan. =P But they're losing too, so...

Hey, last year's captain here. So you know that I'm definitely 100% in.
Of course I'll give my feedback on the Toronto debacle if warranted and requested but Toronto plays some dirty pool and I don't think we should play in their sandbox this year.
New York City came so close to beating us on the last day that it would definitely be fun to challenge them again without the distraction of the shenanigans of Toronto.
Might I suggest, and this pains me, Los Angeles though. :(

Count me in! My husband said I had to do NANO this year so he could go to the post nano party. Prepared to smack down all comers. New York is good - but maybe a new challenge - Los Angeles?

I would like to be in on this. I am a tad concerned about handling a college workload and managing a novel, but I need the motivation.
Also, due to the fact that last year I was in Maryland and my WriMo buddy churned out 70,000 words, whereas my novel wanted to end before 50,000, I have a personal prejudice again Maryland, and want to kick some Maryland tush. I'm not sure how all this works, but if it's possible to challenge, say, just Baltimore, that'd be great. Somehow, I doubt we'd stand a chance against the entire state. Especially with Caeraerie (sp?) there. Though it would be immense fun for me, at least.

Last year it gave me the motivation to pass 100k, this year who knows.
And yeah... we kind of limped away with our tails between our legs after Toronto. Those people scare me.

ASB here from Wellington, New Zealand. You may have twice as many people as the whole of our islands (we have at least two of them), but we can take you! We have sheep! And Weta Workshops. And penguins! You'll all be too busy reeling with giddiness as your man takes the White House anyway.
Maybe we can get Peter Jackson to write on our side, apparently his lot can type and type and type.

Hey all,
The ML's for New Zealand have consulted and are willing to face us in an international waters NaNo word war this year. I just need your ok, and we'll get the captains together and start getting teams put together.
Leave a comment and let me know!
(and if you need a reason to say yes, see one of their responses to this thread above - they're already taunting us!)

If the New Zealand thing doesn't work out, I think Chicago should take on someplace in Arizona, or possibly Washington DC, in solidarity with Obama. :)

We have the go ahead from all of their ML's, so it's just on us to accept the challenge. My main contact has been Travis (cottreau) if you want to start with him. They also have a thread here:
