Are you going to type the whole thing or hand write it this year?

I think I'm going to try to find a happy balance between both. Last year the whole thing was handwritten, but then I had to type it all...51,000 words...that was A LOT of typeing. Not sure I want to go through that again

But on the other had, writing by hand has it's own charm and satisfactions.

So which way are you going for nano 2008?

I'm definitely going to type it. Handwriting is too slow for me, and I have no stamina for it; my hand cramps immediately. *handwriting fail* But yeah, I wish I could.

I think it will end up being both just because I work at a computer all day, I'll be able to sneak in some writing, but I'll write at home as well. Then at night, when I don't want to type anymore I'll hand write.

I'm still finding bits and pieces of Script Frenzy 07 in my apartment. (Now if I could only find the updated file I'd be golden, but that's for another time and place)

Probably a mix of both since I only have a desktop (which still has to be fixed >.>) so I'll probably write by hand on my commute to class/during class/in between classes and type that in along with anything else when I get home.

Typing. I do not want to have to try to catch up with a ton of typing all at once. It took me years to acclimatize to composing at the keyboard, but now that I can, I wouldn't want to go back to writing everything longhand first!

It's typing for me. I do like to write things in longhand, but I find that I just don't write fast enough to keep up with my brain sometimes. Plus, I can type a lot faster than I can write, so it's good time-management.

Typing. I don't even have the patience to write a letter by hand anymore. Sigh. Look what technology has done to me.

I'm going to try and do a mixture of both. I'm not really near a usable computer during the day so I'll use that time to actually write it out and then type it up later. We'll see how that works out.

I'm going to use a both... probably mostly typing, because I can pound out words faster. The only danger of that is I get a fair bit of "And then the author really had no idea what was going to happen next. And then Lehigh looked through the window and saw something that is Yet To Be Revealed." Whereas with longhand I can actually come up with what happens next by the time I'm ready to write it. Plus then I can also write in class :)

I've also considered learning Gregg shorthand (like what a Stenographer would use), but I think it would be hard to go back and type it all up to verify it.

Probably typing. I tend to go back and forth between the two -- if I hit a wall while typing I'll switch to hand writing and vice-versa. My last wall occurred during hand writing, so I think George (my AS2K) and I will be ultra-good friends in November.

I will be typing this year. Whether on my presently-in-the-shop IBM Selectric II or on my desktop computer, I will definitely be typing.

Although I'm still debating on whether I will use the computer or the typewriter. I'm good on either one, but I'd like to try NaNo one of these days on my forty-pound beige beast with the golf-ball element, just for the sake of doing it.

Still, if it's still in the shop when November 1st rolls around, I will have to work on my handy-dandy computer.

But like I said, I will be typing this year, in any case. :)

I always type my stories, whether original or fanfiction. It's just easier to access, and more convenient for me since I'm on a computer practically 24/7 anyways. I have an awful hand, and it cramps up after just a little bit of writing, though I suppose while in school, I could do a bit of hand-writing but otherwise, it's always Word for me.

Oh, urgh. I always type my NaNo's. I love to handwrite little drabbles and things that come to mind when I'm away from my computer - I have notebooks full of the starts of things - but when I seriously accept an idea, I always have to type it. It makes it so much easier to move things around, edit, add, delete, etc. Plus it saves time that would be spent typing up handwritten stuff.

Mostly typing. I do like to hand-write things, and I write stories by hand *a lot*. But I found that when I come up with something really good, something almost always gets lost in the process of writing it down. I'm much, much faster at typing than writing by hand.

Of course, I probably will do a bit of handwriting, when I'm in class or without my laptop. I hope to stick mainly to the laptop, though. I hate having to go back over handwritten stuff and type it.

I type at home, but I handwrite on the bus and at work (during lunch breaks of course). Thankfully my typing speed allows me to quickly add in what I wrote during work and then continue on. Actually I find it a good way to refresh what I had written during the day and then get back into my evening writing session.
I generally find that handwriting is better for me. I find that if I'm having a writers block then I pull out my note book and my favourite pen and the words just flow. I have note books littered around the place full of my nano story, 3-4 pages of a scene at a time. And I went through a pen and a bit in November.
I went out and bought this years Nano note book. It's a 6 subject note book, and I'll rip the 3 middle dividers out. So I've got the front for plans, the back for notes and incidentals, and the big middle chunk for story.
Can't wait to put pen to paper.

If my handwriting was legible I'd use it. There really isn't a feeling quite like a great pen and a thick pad of paper.

But, I can also touch-type and have those useful writing programs that can organize the piles of background info I keep coming up with, so typing will be the best choice.

I'll probably be typing mostly. I'll probably be writing longhand at school during my spare, and then after school I'll type up what I'd written at school. It'll be faster that way.

1st year: wrote.
2nd year: typed.

This year: typing again. I edit more often when I type, but I also go faster. AND it's much easier to rework my draft after NaNo is finished. AND there's a rush when you verify your word count! :-)

Last year everything was handwritten, but that was because I lacked a computer. Thanks to Uncle Sam I have a laptop this year. The only thing about writting everything out is its eaiser to edit later.

Handwriting? Hah, not for me, I can't read my own handwriting most of the time so when I type it up, I won't know what the hell I meant in most parts. So I think that typing is the way for me, faster, more efficient, spell check, all that great stuff.

I'll be typing mine, can't do any longer pieces by hand, though I'm probably going to have to write at least some by hand, since I'm going away mid November. Hurrah.

Parts will be handwritten while I'm at school, but in the end everything will be typed because I am neurotic, and I must have them neat and tidy on my hard drive. Besides that, if the pages don't get typed and kept together I'll lose it, come back to it, and have no idea what I was originally going for. :-\

I'd rather hand write it....but then I wouldn't have it done in time to turn it in for word count and I wouldn't win:( So yah, guess this time I'll type it....THEN hand write it....

I like typing (those computer classes in high school have to be useful for *something*). Usually I'll longhand a lot of my notes and outlines though. It gives me such a feeling of accomplishment to see all those notebooks filled with ideas. I love flipping back through them months afterwards to see how everything's evolved. That's harder to do on a computer...

Typing as absolutely much as possible, definitely, because I type at at least twice the speed I write, probably three times the speed, my handwriting is utterly abominable and if I'm in an exciting scene and am writing fast I will NEVER be able to read it afterward, and, like Miss Tips, I get cramps pretty quickly. Not to mention that typing it up to the computer after reading it is just a pain.

But, of course, I have to go to school, and not much happens in study hall, so I WILL be handwriting sometimes. It's unavoidable. But as absolutely little as possible - I'll sneak off to a computer before I'll handwrite it.

Typing, because if I were to write my novel, I wouldn't be able to read it.

I'll definately be typing it.

Like someone else had said, however, I'll be writing down little snippits and excerpts in and between classes, because I cannot write full fledged scenes while the teachers and, in some cases, my peers are breathing down my neck. Any other time, I'll have my bum firmly planted in this swivel chair with a nice cup of tea- I'm most imaginative during a caffiene-high :)

For the most part I'll type, just to get it into the site and see the word count. I love writing by hand, I guess it was because it took a long time for my family to get a computer so I had to write everything. But if I don't feel like being in front of my computer to type I'll just write and whatever I come up with away from the computer I'll just type it up.

I love long hand, my hands barely cramp up at all.

Typing, definitely, because NaNo really is the best way to start using the new laptop, isn't it?
I'd love to try by hand but I'm going to have so much to write by hand for uni that I won't be able to handwrite the novel in the evenings.
