I am a Nano newbie and was just wondering if anyone else from the Burg is going to do Nano this year? I would love some writing buddies!! Cheers!

I was just getting ready to make a similar post. My buddy Craig.Isnt.All.Here and I are both from Parkersburg. We're considering organizing some write-ins around town if we can find enough interested parties.

Awesome!! I would love to do a write-in. Too bad we don't have a Starbucks around here but there is always JR's Donut Castle!! We used to go there in high school to study for physics tests. Keep me posted!!

Are you interested in getting together at all?

Hey, just signed up. I live in Williamstown, but work in Parkersburg. Also, I'm a reporter for the newspaper, so if any of you would be interested in being interviewed for a story, let me know. We would have to use your real name ;)

Hey, Merb, I'm a writer from Parkersburg, too. If you're still doing your story, I would be fine with being interviewed.

I'm down with an interview if you're still needing people.
On another note, I'm definitely interested in trying to have some kind of write-in (or more than one) somewhere. It's a little close to the wire to plan a kick-off event, but something sometime during November would be cool.

Yay, people from Parkersburg!!!
Too bad I'm only 15, and you all are probably adults.
I apparently need to get some friends who like to write and tell them about NaNo...
Haha, that's completely off subject, but whatever.
Good luck with your novel writing, fellow Parkersburgians :P I'll be looking for something in the paper!

Hooray for more Parkersburg (and Williamstown) Wrimos!
----------Merb: I think a story in the paper would be awesome. Maybe it will draw some interest from all the local college kids. If you need another quote send me a Nanomail and I would be happy to contribute. You can even use my real name!
To our teenage wrimo: Good for you for taking on a challenge like Nano! You should definitely encourage your friends to try it to and maybe see if your school paper would be interested in running a story about it. If nothing else, maybe after you win (which you will!) it will encourage kids to try it next year. Definitely keep in touch in this thread and let us know how you are doing. I'll be pulling for ya!
I am all about the write-ins so lets get something organized.
I live in Pburg but I actually manage a restaurant in Marietta that has Wi-Fi and plenty of hang-out space with lots of tables and yummy food. It's kind of far out of the way, but it's a suggestion.
As far as in town, we could always hit up the library or, as I mentioned before, the Donut Castle.
I have a posse of small children with me at all times so my schedule is a little tricky but I can make something work. So start pitching dates and times and meeting places and lets see if we can work something out.
Cheers!!

I'm here, I'm here, I'm here. Another Parkersburg area writer. I, too, like Michael work at a newspaper, but I'm stationed in Marietta.
Would love to do a write-in, but I'm more interested in one in the Marietta-Williamstown area. Still, I'd be open to one in Parkersburg.
Mel, what restaurant do you manage?

River City Tavern & Grill. We are in the Comfort Inn in Marietta. I also have some pretty good ties with the Parkersburg store so maybe we could have two write-ins, one at each store. Then the overachievers could go to both if they wanted.
----------Day times are best for me because the kiddos are in school but I can make evenings work if that's better for everyone else.
So cool we have two reps from local papers! I really hope to see a story in at least one publication and maybe next year we will have enough participants to have our own region.
Glad to see so many Pburgers on the boards. Everyone keep in touch!

Good luck everyone!
I''ll be starting my novel at the wood county library at some point today. So if you're there and you see someone beating their inner editor into submission with a big pointy stick, that's me.
merb, I e-mailed you as well. Hopefully you received it; I've had a problem lately with people getting my e-mails for some reason.

Anyone interested in a write-in today around 3-4 at Panera?

Sorry, Burly. I would have loved some Panera and good writing but we had our first practice for our church Christmas play today. :(
----------How about tomorrow evening (Monday)? Is that good for anyone?

I'm free anytime after 6. Anyone else game?
Panera Bread or somewhere else?
I will check back on these incredibly slow forums here in a couple of hours and see if anyone else is coming.

I think I'm gonna stay in Marietta and head over to the Galley. This election is driving me to drink a little more than normal. ;)
I'll probably head there around 6:30 or so if anyone's interested in joining me.

I've already made my commute to Marietta and back for the day. And I hear ya on the election drama. UGH! I am ready for it to be over already.
----------One of these days we will have a write-in! It will happen!
Have fun at The Galley.
I'm gonna play catch-up. I got 10k words the first day and nothing at all yesterday so I am now on a mission. Happy writing everyone!!

Sweet story in the Marietta Times today! The reporter (Erin) did an awesome job and even got quotes from Chris Baty himself. Hopefully we will see some more locals popping up on the board.
----------How is everyone's novel coming? Anyone experiencing the dreaded writer's block yet?

Election day/night campaigning/partying really took its toll on my word count, especially since I had to get up yesterday at 4:30AM for work and went all day on 3 hours of sleep. Nothing got done Tuesday. Pounding out about 2,000 tonight though, so, not too far behind the recommended count. I should be caught up by the weekend. That is, of course, if my characters ever decide to cooperate and stop going off on their own little tangents.
I'll have to check the times out for the story.
Edit: Just found the story on the times website. Awesome!

Anyone see my word count bar turn green when I accidentally typed in an extra digit? It was a thrill to hit 101,000...

Ha ha...no I missed that Ella but I bet it was a nice mistake to have made. If I start falling behind I might try slipping an extra digit in there for good measure.
----------Carbon, I hear ya on the election stuff. It took the wind out of me too. I was going strong the first weekend and I have definitely noticed myself starting to slow down. I think I might be going too fast through my story and that's not good. I am about halfway through the plot I had worked out and I am only at 18k words. What am I going to talk about for the last half of my novel?!!
Oh well. I am off to work on my word count. Happy writing, folks!

Last year when I had no idea where to take my story, I added zombies that were genetically engineered by extra-terrestrials that had secretly invaded the earth to turn people into zombies. So, you know, there's always that. Or something equally as insane.
