Hello all!!
I posted this a few days ago but due to the server crash, it was deleted. Anyway!
My name is Heather and I'm a student at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and this is my fourth year of participating in NaNoWriMo. There were scheduled meet-ups last year but unfortunately it seems that not many people could make them! I'm really hoping for a bigger turn-out this year and would LOVE to hear from you!! Throughout this month I am going to make an effort to compose a calendar of meet-ups on or around campus, preferably twice a week so that if you can't make one, there's a good possibility you can make the other! So let me know when you're free, where you like to hang out, or any other ideas you might have!!
Also throwing this out there, I am absolutely appalled that there is NO writing club on campus! At least there is not one I can find. There is the Society of Underground Poets, but I am looking to create something more in the area of a creative writing class, like the ones I had in high school. If you are interested in this idea, please please please I would love to hear from you! I'm looking into finding an advisor right now and after that I will need other officers to get this club made.
Well thank you all for reading this, good luck novelling, and I can't wait to hear from you!! You can reach me here:

Quick question:
What if you're one of the poor people that isn't a college student, but actually lives in Indiana County?
Since there isn't an actual Indiana County thread, would I be able to post here?

Ah, of course!! Sorry I think I mentioned that in my first post but the server crash ate it and I was a bit in haste to make this one. :)
We'd love to have you here too of course! ^^

Hey, we have a thread! :D
I just graduated IUP and haven't escaped Indiana County yet myself (actually, landed a decent job, go me!). So I'll be sticking my head into write-ins, if I have the time and energy. My job takes a -lot- out of me and requires a -lot- of paperwork! >_< But I guess that's all the more reason to want to come hang out and de-stress, eh? ^_^
This is year 6 of NaNo for me (yikes!) and I still haven't won... but I'm really pushing to get at least 30k this year (and I really hope I can win but I'm not making any promises to myself). So I'm really excited about this year and I'll be trying to check in both here and in the Pittsburgh forums (where there are even more people and bigger parties :P). Good luck to everyone this year, and if you need me to pass out flyers, advocate for the Young Writers' Program, chalk sidewalks, etc just give me advance warning! ^_^
Oh, and free times? Late evenings and weekends (so far anyway), and hangout spots = anywhere in town that serves tea and has a wireless connection. I especially love the Commonplace coffee house on campus but I've heard decent things about Cafe Amadeus, and there's that new sandwich shop on the corner of 7th that's supposedly open pretty late, too. I'm open to anywhere in or near town! :)

Great! Thank you so much for the suggestions, and I'll have to check out this sandwich shop! :)

Ah gracias.
Okay, first off, I am willing to bet I am one of, if not THE, youngest member for this thread. I'm 13 and in the eighth grade at a school about fifteen miles away from campus.
This will be my second Nano, and hopefully my second time winning.
Anywhere is good for me, as long as non-college students are allowed to be in said places. I can stay out until 10 on weeknights when my mum comes with me.
I hope to see you all in November!

I'm sure we can definitely work out a schedule so you can be included too. I'll check out some prospective places on campus to make sure non-college students are welcome as well. :) And if not... then we'll just find somewhere off of campus haha.

Hey, I'm applying to IUP for this upcoming spring semester! If I get accepted, I'd love to help you set up a club or something for writing!

Awesome! I'd love to make friends with some other writers up at campus... none of my friends write. ._.

The past four years I've been here, I've either been too busy or too shy to come to any write-ins or anything. Maybe this year I'll actually do some NaNo-community events in Indiana >.>

Any idea when your schedule would allow it?

Have you thought about trying to get a campus meet-up listed in the Campus Events Digest? (You know, that mass email that I delete on a daily basis...)

One of my friends said that he knew someone who works with it and could get it in for me... I don't think he's said anything about it though.
So far I know that the Starbucks on Oakland Avenue would be a good place to meet up (as it has internet, or at least that's what the website says, and is accessible to hopefully everyone. The Commonplace is also a good place and I'm sure the library at IUP would be a good place as well.
If anyone has any other suggestions, let me know! I'm working on setting something up right now. :)

Hey! I live on Oakland Ave and well...I used to be a student...but I'm taking a break for now from school. I hope we do have some get togethers in Indiana since I have no vehicle and really can't make it to Pittsburgh. Any places mentioned sound just fine to me. The Hub, maybe we could somehow get a room there to use...or the library. If Starbucks does have internet that would be great.
Hope we can get something worked out!

Hey it's nice to meet you!
I know that we can't get a room in the HUB simply because only clubs can use the rooms... I'm thinking that the best bets are going to be the ones I've mentioned. I thought about Caffé Amadeus but they really prefer that you order something when you go and it could get a little expensive after a while.
I'm going to work on a meet-up schedule this weekend between all the stuff I have to do. Hope everyone looks forward to it!

OKAY!! I think I have a working schedule. I have it set up for every Monday night and Friday night at 8 (as one member can only be out until 10) and in areas that I am fairly certain have wireless internet and caffeinated beverages. I was thinking that maybe one time, for instance the 17th, we could go to Caffé Amadeus instead, but I just wanted to point out that the staff really, really prefers that the people order drinks there. I just alternated the places for the days, I hope that is okay. Get back to me as soon as you can so that I can make adjustments as needed, and I hope at least one of the days a week works for you.
I also added a meet-up on the last day at the Commonplace for some last-minute idea bouncing and quick novelling. There's a chance that some of us might need it. :)

The Commonplace is kinda tucked away in that little strip of stores across from Subway by Oakland Avenue. That's kinda.. the best way I can think of describing it. >.<

Okay. I'm totally sorry, but I won't be able to make the first write-in. My school's first playoff game is that night at seven (Blacklick Valley is going down!). Plus I have one quick question. What library are we referring to? The one on campus, or the Indiana Free Library or whatever it is called?

That was a fun meet-up. I was glad to put names to faces for some of you guys :) Don't think I'll make it to the next one, but I'll try to get to the one on the 7th. Just to clarify though in case I do come; Starbucks is the Starbucks on Oakland, not on 9th or campus, right? (There are too many Starbucks' open in this town...)

Hello everyone!
To answer you, MossAngel, yes, the Starbucks is the one on Oakland. :) I actually won't be able to make it to this one either, as I have to work on my lesson plans for my students tomorrow. Hope everyone has a good time! :P

Okay, I am going to ask another stupid question. Well, two actually.
Would I need a library card to get into the library?
And if so
How much would it cost a thirteen-year-old?
Cause I really want to come tonight, but... Yeah.
Gracias, Tory

Okay - problem. So sorry!!
My roommate informed me that the library closes at 7PM on Fridays. My first thought - what the hell. D:
So I think we should move it to the Commonplace, if that's okay! >.<

OH RIGHT. That's another reason why I'm glad I quit - they screwed over the night shift on hours! What kind of college library isn't open late on weekends for crash study sessions? Feh.
Well, the Commonplace is fine by me :) I'll be there with my laptop, and I'll try to be on time this time :P
