And SS/PS is on Disney Channel right now, and now I can't watch the other movies because my DVD player is broken. =]

I'm an MNFFer, who doesn't really know what she's doing. But that's alright. I wing a lot of things; math tests, science practicals, you know, the works, so randomly figuring out how to work a forum isn't too bad by my standards.

Is there such thing as spam in these forums? Anybody know?

So, is anyone else having difficulty getting on to anything Mugglenet related? Because I can't get onto anything, but my internet is clearly working fine because I'm here. It's frusturating. EDIT: Never mind, I just got on!

In case I could get introuble for spam, I have a TQ:

How do you do research for your story? I've officially got three pages of questions to ask my History Teacher on Tuesday (Happy Thanksgiving!)

Lizzy, a lot of people are having trouble...i know that HJG for one, is having a lot of trouble.

How do you do research for your story?

I'm spending a lot of time on Wikipedia, researching the Salem Witch Trials, so that I can get the same feeling of hysteria and lack of control into my writing...it will be an interesting experience.

New TQ: What do you do to get into the right voice for your writing? If you're trying to write a romance, for example, how do you get in to that "fluff" voice?

I don't really think there is. Not like MNFF forums anyways. And I was having a terribly hard time getting onto the forums today, and I gave up before even trying to get on any other Mugglenet sites.

How do you do research for your story? I really don't have to do a lot of research, because my first story is about teenagers, so I just use experience, and my second one is going to be a fantasy world that I plan on trying to make completely from scratch. The only thing I may need to research a bit is how kings and queens ruled and I will probably just use goodle or the local library.

New TQ: What do you do to get into the right voice for your writing? If you're trying to write a romance, for example, how do you get in to that "fluff" voice? Music. I have mood music playlists (Yes, I am *that* dorky.) and I will just play them over and over for the mood I'm writing. Or, I'm in that kind of mood I'll skip to a scene where the mood is the same. =]

How do you do research for your story?

I go on an internet frenzy and look up everything I can possibly find. Usually I'll find something that I never knew before and I'll try to figure out a way to incorporate it into my plot.

Right now my plot continues to change as I think of it. The main characters and the idea is still the same but the way certain events occur continues to change as I think of more ways that things could happen. Plus my ending is really very fuzzy at this point.

Does anyone know anything about orphanages in England?

Random Factoid(s) About Yourself: All of this nano-ness everywhere is DRIVING ME INSANE. I want November to START ALREADY. And I ABUSE THE CAPS LOCK SYSTEM. Just imagine me, actually talking to you calmly, but yelling everything you see in caps lock. See, I try to copy my speech patterns through spiffy internet speak but it rarely works... and the ellipses are there because I always mutter. Oh man, if any MNFFers met me in real life, they would be so confused by the way I talked. They be like, hey, sara must speak in a clear, concise way-- NO, NO IT'S A TRICK, she just mutters all the time. And she always says "man", even when she's talking to women. And she says stuff like EFF TUCKER and FRICK TODD. And when anybody asks "Hey, where did my (insert various losable objects and/or people here) go?" she's always there to respond with, "welllll, I waas reaally hungrryyyy..." "Sara! You ate Liezl AGAIN?" "She's just so delicious you guys. She's Canadian."

Random Factoid(s) About Yourself: I am a mango fiend, as in if I see a mango it is eaten. On the spot. I failed NaNo last time. I LOVE the Dresden Dolls. I really want NaNo to start. I'm currently living in France and going to a French school, but since I love writing in English so much I usually write all my essays in English first, then translate. I am on the verge of using all caps like Sara, but am refraining from doing so.

What the hell.

I'M ACTUALLY GOING TO MAKE IT THIS TIME!!!!!! BY MAKING WRITING MY PRIORITY OVER PHYSICS!!! TAKE THAT, ALL RL UNBELIEVERS!!!!

Yup.

How do you do research for your story?

For NaNo, I only research very little, or not very much at all. Even though I probably should. Whatever. "Getting rid of anachronisms is for December."

What do you do to get into the right voice for your writing? If you're trying to write a romance, for example, how do you get in to that "fluff" voice?

Simple. I can't. I don't write fluff. XD.

For everything else, however, it is mostly a combination of music/imitation of other writers/putting yourself in the situation. Mostly my voice will write itself, and I just have to go over tweaking bits, or, in extreme cases, erasing it all and starting over. This might also be because with most stories, the voice kind of comes from the sky with the plot bunny.

THIS --^

is a genius idea

How do you do research for your story?
I don't actually have this down yet. I suck at research almost as much as I suck at the internetz. Tips please.

What do you do to get into the right voice for your writing? If you're trying to write a romance, for example, how do you get in to that "fluff" voice?
Thinking about the story usually sets the mindset for me. *shrugs* Also, I don't usually write romance. When I write d/a stuff, it's usually because I'm in a dark mood, anyway, so sometimes the story comes from the mood, not the other way around. I should probably, you know, control that, but it's worked so far.

Yeah, you're only the second person. I'm the first. *wears badge proudly* xp

How do you find the perfect names for your character?
I hate hate hate HATE finding character names. I can never just pick any old name, no, cause the stupid characters get all 'Nah, I don't like that name, now go spend hours searching for another that I STILL WON'T LIKE.' I search baby naming/name sites for hours just to find *one* name.

I usually only have this trouble with MCs, with minor characters I just slap a name on.

A great way to get names is flip open the telephone book and mix two names together! Or look at movie credits and take names from the lighting people and such.

Okay, I officially love all of you guys. This thread is making me laugh like crazy. =]

New TQ: How do you find the perfect names for your character? I go to those baby name websites, write down all the names I like on a piece of paper, (I actually have done this like three times because I keep losing the paper...) then I try to pick a name I think would wuit my character. I also totally obsess over it until I find the perfect name.

Ahh! I'm so happy, my RL bff signed up for nano! Even though she's not going to write a thing, this still makes me happy. =]

And, I was checking out the HPFF thread, and they were talking about outposting us. In my opinion, we would totally dominte. The end. =]

...I use wayy to many smilies.

I know...I go on baby name sites more that actual expecting mothers do. Right now I'm all annoyed because my character needs a name that starts with a C, that is French but also sounds good in English, that is slightly old-fashioned and "round", and that is not Cosette. Damn you Hugo for using the name first.

Also, HPFF people out posting us? pfft. *glares at all the HPFF-ers secretly watching our every move*
