I'm a first year at the University of Chicago and this will be my third year doing NaNoWriMo. Anyone else who hails from UChicago or somewhere around Hyde Park?

Cool! I am also a first year at UChicago and this is also my third NaNo. I'm totally excited to attempt this with a crushing school workload...yay!

I'm an alumna - I live on North Side now, but I'm actually setting my novel at the U of C! And the protagonists are first-years!

Would anyone be interested in a pre-nano meet-up or a midnight kick-off party somewhere around campus?

Totally, sounds good...although given that the midnight kick-off would have to occur Halloween night, I'm more in favor of a Day 1 or pre-NaNo meetup.

There's actually already a midnight kick off - you can either attend in person (at the Clark & Belmont Starbucks in East Lakeview) or via the online chat room at http://www.chiwrimo.org if you're looking for a midnight kickoff :)

Yeah, I've head about that, but I'm not a fan of taking CTA home after midnight, given the neighborhood...

I'm going to be gone over halloween and the first november weekend, but I'm in favor of either a pre meetup or sometime in early november!

if people are nervous about coming back late on the cta, we could go as a group which would probably be a lot safer than going alone. or we could just wear dark clothes and hide in bushes until the buses come.

I also work at the press...K-lee: would you by chance be the new person in manuscript? If so, a couple of us on the fourth floor are novel-ing this year and you should come say hi! I'm in marketing and my friend is in editorial.

I'm a second year - this will be my third year NaNoing (and, hopefully, my third year winning ^_^)

If anyone's interested, I'm probably having a writein at the Borders on Saturday; let me know if you're interested (by NaNomail, please - I might not remember to come back to the thread) and I'll tell you when I'll be there.

Good writing all ^_^ Heckle your friends until they join.

Hey all :) I'm also a first year, and this is my third NaNoWriMo...hopefully third victory, if massive amounts of schoolwork don't crush me first...*crosses fingers*

Write-ins = amazing. I'd definately be up for that.

Me!

I live in Hyde Park, though I don't actually attend the University, I've been known to hang out on campus and whatnot, sing in the Women's Chorale, participate in SCAV HUNT, go to the pub, the whole thing. I blend in very well. :)

My novel actually takes place largely in Chicago in the late 60s.

As far as the CTA is concerned, I have lived in Chicago for almost a year. I've lost track the number of times I've taken the Red Line from Boy's Town to Hyde Park, waited ENDLESSLY for the 55 (at 4am, drunk, in February) and I've NEVER ONCE had a problem. Never once had the slightest inkling I was in any kind of danger. I've always felt very safe in Hyde Park. Then again, with the University Police, the Chicago Police, AND the Secret Service in the neighborhood as of late, one has good reason to be. We probably live in one of the safest neighborhoods in the country right now.

I would absolutely participate in a write-in, as long as it was after Election Day. I'm voting in Florida right now. :)

My other half and I will be having a writein at the Hyde Park Borders tomorrow. We should be there from 1 or 2 until 7 ish, if anyone wants to join us. I'll try to remember to put a writing space poster of some kind up, otherwise just look for two girls typing like crazy in the cafe.

I think I'll join you! I was going to RSVP to the brunch downtown, but this'll be more convenient. And run later! So I can start at midnight and then sleep in.

(I am a HP NaNoer, btw, I've just been too lazy to answer this thread yet. Hi everyone >.>)

Anyone interested in having a writein anytime the next few days? I'm really behind and need to play a bit of catchup; the knowledge that other people actually expect me to write would help an awful lot.

Hey, I'm hosting (in the loosest definition of that word) a write in on Tuesday at 7 at the Noon Hookah Lounge on 55th, 1617 E 55th to be precise. We may even be there on time this Tuesday so stop on by.

I'd also recommend going to the Open Books write-in on Monday because they give away free shit and there are tons and tons of people there writing.

All of the write-ins in the chicago area are conveniently listed here:
http://chiwrimo.org/events.html

Also, this site is freaking awesome and is responsible for my highly increased wordcount of late.
