海, 你好, and Hello!

November starts the 2008 season of NaNoWriMo and this year Taiwan is on the board! My name is Jenny and I'm this year's Taiwan Regional Moderator/Municipal Liaison.

If you're located in Taiwan, please, let me know. I'm hoping to have a few meet'n'greets in Taipei during October and November.

On this thread, please introduce yourself.

Happy writing,
jenny

Foreign-language Novels

Yes! You can write your novel in a foreign language. The NaNoWriMo FAQ says this on the subject:

You can write novels in any language you like. Our validator doesn't handle non-Latin characters sets, sadly, so there may be an issue with becoming an official winner. But this is just icing on the NaNoWriMo cake, and we encourage you to write in whatever language is most comfortable for you.

Are you writing your NaNoWriMo novel in Mandarin?
Using NaNoWriMo with English Language Learners

Teachers are welcome to get their students involved. The 50,000 word count might sound daunting, but the point is to write. So what if they only write 10,000 words over the course of the month! This is also good practice for students who need practice for a writing portion of a test. To overlook the high word count, I'm reminding people that a "book" need not be one long story, but could be a collection of shorter stories or essays.

I am recruiting my office staff, students, and language exchange partners to participate in this month's writing event, and you can too.
