There are Nano'ers in Kelowna. More of them there than here I think. I don't know too much about them other than they do get together for write ins or whatever during November, and the ML for our region a couple years ago was a Kelowna Nano'er. Maybe they're all waiting for someone to start a Kelowna thread. I just happened to be on the forum an hour or so after relaunch and VERNON FIRST got started first.
Good Luck

We met at the Bean to Cup last year, and at other Coffee Shops in previous years. Anyone up for meeting this year? If so where when suggestions.

Oh, Bean to Cup! I could go for meeting there, especially if it's after school sometime. It's right by Seaton and my friends live right across from there, so even if it was at like, 6, it would be totally awesome. Or any time after 5 on weekdays, really.
Can't really think of anywhere else that would be good... Bean to Cup is all nice and relaxing and central and there's plenty of room... :D

Well, it's that time again. The leaves are turning. It is raining and cooler. Bears are sniffing out good spots to put a head down for 4 months or so, and wannabee novelists are emerging from woodpiles everywhere.
Unlike Ursas Major locally, I am losing sleep. I was awake from 3-5am this morning thinking about my damn plot!
Okay, Bean-to-Cup this Friday 5pm I will slink downstairs to the comfy sofas and scowl at people until they reveal their hidden typing habits.
Be advised I appear 30 or so years older than my mental age of 27!
cheers,
Geoff

I'm thinking of the Bean-to-Cup meeting tonight with great envy as evenings and coffee shops are out for me. Just want to ask... is there anyone else out there who's dealing with MCS (Multiple Chemical Sensitivities) and who needs a completely scent-free environment? Anyone who'd like to get together earlier in the day?
I'd love to wade in, but will have to stay in that woodpile for now. But I'm laughing... and writing.

Prokopton and I met at the Bean to Cup for the pre-pre-Nano meeting. I gotta say that they did a bang up job of renovating. There was lots of space for others, but there were no other that showed. We had an interesting time, discussing our ideas for our novels.
suggestions for next week are welcome. I`ll go anywhere within reason. Weekends are probably best for those still in school. Anyone know of any restaurants, cafes, meeting places, with scent free environments...

Dang, I totally missed the pre-pre meet D: Why did I not check this forum rabidly like i usually do?!? >_<
Oh well, next time. I'm totally up for a meet next week sometime. I'm in school, but I go to seaton so after school is perfectly fine for me at any location, as I have my own means of transportation... if they're at around 5 (I have afterschool activities). Weekends... no go; that's the only time I can work. Can't come to anything this Friday since I'll be in costume and will be getting a ride home, and my costume's clunky... very clunky.
Definately up for any other day, though! Anyone up for say... Wednesday or Thursday at around 5ish? Don't know where, though...

OH! I just thought of a possible place for everyone to meet up!
Bean Scene, I think it is.
It's right downtown and has a very nice feel to the place. I plan to go there to write at least a few times this November, 'cause it's got that perfect atmosphere. Don't know if it's scent-free, though.

We’ve tried the Bean Scene before and it didn’t quite wpork out. Too small and too noisy. It is a suggestion though, and we might have tried at the wrong time. I think we moved too Starbucks at the Fruit Union Plaza that year, though I can’t be sure.
Bean to Brew has a nice meeting room. JamesDuncan looked into that one. They do rent the room out for meetings, but we may be able to use it if available. JamesDuncan, Tralia, and I met there for a while after Nano was over, until they moved away.
Regarding a scent free environment. I keep thinking of Portillos, it has a new name now, and only because a large part of it was open to the outdoors. Which might be a tad bit chilly in November. A group of Nano-ers did meet there. I wasn't in that group so I don't know how it worked out. Starbucks at the downtown Safeway has a couple outdoor tables, with heat sources over them.
I never really sought out a scent free environment before, so have no idea where one would be.
Bluetree do you have any suggestions
This is a rather wild Idea and I have no idea how it would work. Perchta, a past member of the Vernon Nano group, and hopefully still is, told me once that she and a group of her friends got together on MSN Chat, Yahoo Chat, or some kind of chat for word wars and the like. I have no interest in word wars, but I am wondering if a weekly chat meeting, in addition to a meeting at a coffee shop, or wherever, so that those who, for some reason or other, couldn’t attend a physical meeting wouldn’t feel excluded.
Just a thought.

Yeah, it can be rather crowded if you catch it at the wrong time... the few times I've been there it's been nice and quiet; I think that's been at about 3 on weekdays. Or just before.
Other than that, I don't get out much, so I have no suggestions. We could always meet at Polson Park or something if it's an unusually warm day, but that's unlikely to happen in November. But if that does happen, I know that being outside in a nice day can pump up my creative juices sometimes.
And as for meeting online in addition to the physical meetings, I think that's an awesome idea! 'Cause it would be a shame to be left out just because you couldn't make a meet or something.
I think skype would be the best for that; good voice and text chatting. And webcam apparently, but I don't have one of those so I can't comment on that part haha.

I will go for coffee at Bean2cup Wednesday 5pm Oct28th, come-as-U-R.
- just because.
The Pantry next to the Lodge has several areas which accommodate coffee, ie., non-diners, for discussion.
How does that suit you bluetree
randominu, what was the clunky costume, Junkman
hmm, my question mark key just fritzed!

Hmmm yeah, the Pantry is a nice little place, now that I think of it. I haven't been there for a while so it slipped my mind XD
Pfft junkman. Booooorring.

That's what my costume is going to be, giant gun and backpack included. Needless to say it won't fit on my scooter, so I have to get a ride wherever I go and can't have my backpack of writing goodies... that's going to make me sad, but it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make for the lulz.
Wednesday at 5, I shall be there! ^_^
Also, if your ? key is broke'd, that sounds like it just might be troublesome for November... or it could up your wordcount XD

Hi guys, I suspect that I'll be a lost cause as far as meetings go, but I’m deeply impressed by everyone's thoughtfulness.
Thank you, Willcan, Randominu and Prokopton, for your attempts to find a solution for me.
The downtown Safeway and Portillo’s DO sound like possibilities - which makes me grin. Unfortunately, in my case, most indoor locations are always going to be out. Online chats would be great as MCS isn’t an easy thing to work around (just had the thought that I should be gifting this problem to one of my characters). Dryer sheets, scented laundry detergents, any scented body products... they’re all out for me.
Am off to scout locations (having to miss all the writers' meeting is too tough a thought to just accept) And I think I heard a rumour that we'll have sun tomorrow.

Well, there's gotta be someplace that would work out for everyone. It's not like there aren't any scent-free indoor environments... just gotta look for 'em. :D
But whether or not we do find a suitable place, we should definately still do the little mini-internet-meetings for those who can't attend the physicals for whatever reason. I really do like this idea... especially since not only am I on the computer most of the time anyway, but also because, well... it'll be november. And who WON'T be on their computers for that? XD

Or at least within range of one. I'll most likely will be writing on a compute3r this year. I hand wrote last years effort and have been toying with the idea of joining the Typewriter Brigade.
I did insttall Skype. This computer has a built in mike and webcamera, though I might not use that. Have no idea of how to set it up for a virtual meeting.

... Wow. I can only imagine how hard it would be to write it out by hand... I wouldn't be able to do it without my computer I think haha!
I have some idea of how to set up virtual meetings on skype (I've used it for my game development meetings) so I could prolly help with that or try to set it up when we need it.

As for writing by hand? I didn't find it that hard. I kind of enjoyed sitting in front of the tv scribbling away. I don't know if I can re-create the experience with a laptop.
