Yeah, it's never too soon to start organising the Kick-Off Party!

For those of you who've never been to one before, the Kick-Off Party is a chance to get to meet your fellow local WriMos in person and get excited about the crazy challenge that we're about to embark upon. It's fun!

The past few years we've held it in the cafe of the Yorkshire Playhouse, and that's worked well. It's got the space to accommodate us, and it's usually fairly quiet aside from the large group of crazy writers. So unless anyone has any other suggestions I'd say we do that again.

Date-wise, well, we generally go for a Saturday. And this year the 31st is a Saturday, which seems perfect to me. We'll truly be kicking off the NaNo challenge if we hold it then. So that's my favoured date. It'll be in the afternoon, which hopefully means we won't clash with any Halloween parties people might already have planned. But it's not set in stone. If everyone comes along and says they can't do the 31st then we'll look at another date. Do let me know!

Oh, and again for those of you who've not been before: it's traditional around here to bring a piece of fruit to the party. It helps you find the right group of complete strangers (we'll be the weirdos holding fruit), it provides a nutritious snack afterwards, and it means you can officially call yourself a Fruity Writer. Yay!

When you say Yorkshire Playhouse... is that the *West* Yorkshire playhouse? Opposite the bus station in Leeds?

If so, I'm there!

Yes, that's the one. Sorry, early morning and not much sleep don't make the best combination for being properly organised.

Great idea, I love it. Though any weekend is good for me, just that my dad is nagging me to come up and see him sometime soon, so I gotta tell him no, not weekend X. (Not too bad, though, he's got a new dog I wanna see!)

31st should be okay for me, wouldn't want to give up official writing time. I like to end the first weekend with 3 or 4 days target in the bag :)

WYP is a good venue too.

I don't really know my way around Leeds but if I can find the place (and the time) I'll definitely be there. I missed the kick off party last year so hopefully I'll make it this time around.

I'll try to make it if I can arrange baby sitting, part of my reason for doing this is that I've just moved from Scarborough to York so I don't really know anyone yet.

I don't really know my way round Leeds but if anyone else is travelling from York by train we could arrange to meet beforehand and get lost together!

Hannah554 - West Yorkshire Playhouse is really easy to find. Just ride the bus all the way to Leeds Bus and Coach station. Leave via the exit that's next to the newsagent, then turn right and you'll see it straight across the road.

Also, Google Maps is your friend :)

@Pentoon I'm in York and know where we're going in Leeds. I'd offer my friend as a babysitter too, but we're both heading on to Kirklees after.

JonnyArdern - Thanks, that does sound pretty easy to find, even my terrible sense of direction shouldn't get me lost.

I won't be able to make it this year sadly, on any Saturday in the last three weekends in October... :( I'll be in Leeds on the 31st, but I'll be at an all day gig thing at the Brudenell Social Club. This makes me sad, since I only booked my ticket the other day.... I thought the kick-off would be the Saturday before, when I'm in London for a convention (where I shall MEETTOMBAKEROMG)....

I fail! I'll have to catch some of you at write-ins or TGIO parties or whatever......

I wanted that day off work anyway. They wanted me to dress as a ghost and sell newspapers on the street corner. Going to a party sounds a lot better.

Those of you who aren't sure where the Playhouse is - never fear! We're actually reasonably organised around here. We always arrange to have a specific train across from York, plus a pause to meet people in the foyer of Leeds station, and then all walk across together. Easy peasy.

Nah, it's the MCM expo :D Craig Charles is there too, but I met him last time. I'm only bothered about Tom Baker and the True Blood panel.

And it will be better without me, you silly moo :P

Dagnabbit, I'm hosting a Halloween party that day so I can't make it.

I was going to bring a pineapple and everything :(

Sad times, but on the plus side I got to say dagnabbit :D

Looks like I may be able to make it now. Have decided to stick all dayer gig drumstick where the sun does not shine since I only want to see one band and they're playing in Wakefield the week after anyway.

So.... yes. Count me in! :D

If you're there Nat I'll have no one to break my computer so I may as well tag along too ;)

Plus it is the only day of the year I won't get arrested for approaching the general public in a friendly but over enthusiastic manner at Leeds Station whilst toting fruit...

would love to come, but will be in a field in North Yorkshire, camping! - It's Samhain, and my New year - so will be away with the fairies - literally! ( there will be Witches and other Pagan folk there too!)

I guess I should really stop being such a shy and retiring little wimpette and throw myself wholeheartedly into this thing, so I'll try and make it. Anyone else from Sheffield going? We could go together on the train, or I can offer three lifts in my trusty old jalopy. Although regarding the latter, I should warn you that I have never yet, in nearly ten years, managed to drive into Leeds from the south without getting lost...

Might have to pop along and show my face, but be nice I'm all new and terrified and stuff! lol. Seeing as I'll be passing through the bus station anyway it'd be rude not to turn up like...
but only if you're nice to me!

Shall do my best to attend (the husband has agreed to babysit, huzzah!) Can I bring fruit in the form of cake? I make a fantabulous apple cake, y'know...
