I wanted to put these links in the header info, but they didn't quite all fit. Here are the other places that you can find Melbourne Wrimos online:

On Facebook
On Google Groups
On IRC: The server is DALnet and the channel is #melbnano
On LiveJournal
On Twitter
On Yahoo! Groups

Please note: all information about events and so forth will go up here first, and may or may not be crossposted to any of these other groups, depending on how urgent it is; I assume most people will be checking here first for information.

Twitter # is a bit like LJ-tagging. It basically designates the item after the hash as a search term, to make it easier to find tweets on a common topic.

Here's the guide to getting onto IRC that 1863 wrote last year, which I've modified a bit for this year:

Quote:
WINDOWS
I use mIRC. There are tons of other clients. I'm not listing them all here, because I don't use them.

http://www.mirc.com/get.html

Connecting:
Go to the options dialog, put in a username in the top section (it's called Connect) type in something random in the full name / email sections (don't put your real one there, there's no point.) then pick DALnet from the servers list in the tab below. That should be enough to get you there (yeah it connects slowly.)

Then once you're connected, close the silly channels window that automatically pops up, and type:

/join #melbnano

Quote:
MAC
http://www.ircle.com

Once you've downloaded the program and opened it up 4 boxes should come up on your screen (I'm using OS X but I presume it is similar on all of the mac ircle downloads).

One of them should have "connections" written up the top of it in the task bar. At the bottom of the box it should have "Edit" - click on that and you can make your own username and put in your full name (but it doesn't have to be real, and probably shouldn't be because anyone can see it) and then click ok.

Then go to the "servers" and click on that (it's just below the Edit button). Scroll down to the D section - find Dal in the left hand column then follow down until you find irc.dal.net 7000. Click on that so it's highlighted, then click add, then click select.

You can then click connect (to the left of the edit button on that box)

Then go to commands right up the very top of the screen, click on Join then type in "#melbnano" then go.

There's also a fantastic add-on for Firefox called Chatzilla which is what I use. You download it, run it, I think it prompts you to pick a username (I've got mine registered so I could set the channel up), and you can select DALnet from the servers list that comes up. Once DALnet's let you in, type /join #melbnano and you should be set.

I'm gonna try and keep it running most of the time even if I'm AFK, so if you see me in there but I don't respond I am not ignoring you, I'm just not there.

Thank you so much for that guide. Even a techno-nuffy like me can get onto this!

Grrr... i've downloaded and run Chatzilla successfully. i log onto IRC but there isn't any drop down menu anywhere that lets me select DALnet. I can't find any command i can type into the word box that will let me log in either.

Can anyone help me here?

There isn't one, but when it logs you in, you should see something that basically says "list of available serves" and dalnet should be one of them, and all you need to do is click it, then wait for it to connect (it's a little slow) and type in /join #melbnano and hit enter - then you're in!

I got nothing.

If that doesn't work, you can try typing "/server irc://dal.net/"

That should be right... I have never had to type it in for dalnet, but I have for other servers...

I would like to mention for Mac Ircle is very frustrating and basic- I use Colloquy which not only is easier on the eyes but for people who haven't used IRC before.
