Here we go again! This is the first year I've been the one starting this thread. I guess I just got here first, so I'll get the intro ball rolling...
This is my 6th year doing NaNo, I'm going to be writing a Fantasy Adventure story which I'm still working out the details of. I live in Portland and I'm one of 2 MLs for our area. If you have questions about write-ins, kick-off parties, etc., an ML is the person to seek out. Feel free to contact one of us here or by email.
We have year-long write-ins at Panera Bread in Westbrook if anyone is interesting in joining us there. It's especially helpful during the pre-NaNo cram to get ready for November!
Let's here from the rest of you newbies and returning Wrimos!
NOTE: To find other Maine Wrimos in your area, check out postings both in this thread and the "A Nanoer Near You" thread.

Hey, I've heard about NaNo last week and I decided to try it. :-)
My name is Alex and I'm a 25 y/o German gal, living my dreams in Maine (Augusta area to be exact)
I have been writing stories since I was a kid..and then I haven't written any stories for several years..until last year. And three days ago I finished my first novel and it was an amazing feeling. :-)
I'm in the middle of research for the novel I'm going to write in November. It's going to be a crime story..but I will be writing in German since that is a little easier for me...even though English sounds a LOT better.
Hope to meet many nice writers here to exchange ideas :D

NaNo is my second favorite time of the year (sorry, not even a month of writing can beat Prince Edward Island in summer). I've been doing it since I was 13, this is my third year and I plan on winning for a third time.
This year I'm going to work on a Christmas present for a friend of mine. I asked her some random questions and when NaNo comes I'm going to review her answers and put together a story from that, on the spot. It's going to be lots of fun! Can't wait to see how my brain connects sausage bread, wolves, venus fly traps, diamonds and some other things I can remember off the top of my head...
I'd love to come to a write-in but I don't have my license yet, and my parents are too busy to take me... Maybe next year. I hope.

I'm bettchan, sometimes Bethany, sometimes not. I've been participating in NaNo since 2005 and I still don't know what I'm doing. ;P
I spend some time in the Brunswick-ish area, and a lot of time near Westbrook and Gorham. I have an almost 3-month-old son who did a good job of distracting me from last year's novel; I'm wondering how well this year is going to turn out. I'm hoping to get around to some Write-ins, since I usually get a lot done there.
I love how the site looks this year, but I kind of miss the guy with the pencil.

Hey everyone! I'm Joana. I've been doing NaNoWriMo since I was a sophomore in high school, making this my fifth year (and hopefully my fifth win!). I'm a sophomore at the University of Maine at Farmington with a major in Creative Writing and a minor in goofing off. When I'm not in class or asleep I'm probably on the computer, so expect to see me lurking around the boards a lot. My novel this year is an LGBT young-adult story that I've been wanting to do all year, and I figured NaNo was a good a time as any to get it told!
I also like messing around in PhotoShop. I have a novel banner thread in the Off Topic forum if you'd like one.
I have private messages enabled so feel free to send one if you feel like stalking me :P

Hello, fellow Mainers!
I'm Maisie, a senior at UMaine Orono (anthropology major), and about to embark on my third NaNoWriMo. I'm writing a fun and fluffy fantasy/romance, because working on thesis (which is also a novel) will not leave me much time for doing anything else.
Hopefully I'll make it to Bangor for a write-in or two, but if there's anyone else at Orono, let me know, maybe we can do a college write-in some night! I know there's at least one UMainer out there ...

Hi, I'm Robyn, and this will also be my sixth NaNoWriMo. I participated in my first at the age of 14, and I've won once (in 2007), but I'm hoping to make it twice after this year. I'm super excited for this NaNoWriMo because I actually have most of my novel plotted out, and I've been jumping up and down, resisting the urge to write it for a month and a half now!
Although I originally hail from Raymond, about 45 minutes from Portland, I regret that I won't be writing for Maine--I'm currently going to school in Vermont, and will be writing on behalf of that region, but best of luck to y'all!

I'm so glad the forums are back!
I'm 34 years old, from Old Orchard Beach, and if you want to know more about me this is my online bio here: http://www.squidoo.com/eelkat
This is my 5th year doing NaNo, I failed my first year (2005-Fantasy-Sci-Fi) ...did like 2,000 before I got bored with my plot.
I did 183,000 my second year (2006 - Horror-Romance) ... kind of to make up for failing the first year, but than never went back to edit it.
I reached 75,000 third year (2007-Fantasy-Historical-almost Romance), but I never finished the story!
In 2008, I did the unthinkable and changed my goal from 50k to 200k. YOW! But I did it and finished out the month with my biggest total ever: 238,153 words in 30 days!!!! (spaced out over 5 different books of various genres btw - none of which I totally finished, but one of which has since been nearly finished and at the time of this writing had just finished going through it's 4th draft and is soon to be published! YAY!)
Now NaNoWriMo 2009 is bearing down upon us and I've decided I want to beat my total last year and try for 250K or more. YIKES! It was really hard reaching that word count last year, so I'm not making 250k my goal- just my dream. Well, my goal is to do one novel at 75k this year (Horror) and if I have time, to just keep doing as many more 75k novels (Romance-Fantasy-or-Horror) as I can before the 30th.
I'm writing my plot online as I wait for November to start, well it's more random mad dash brainstorming than actual outlining, but in any case, you can read about that here http://www.squidoo.com/NaNoWriMo-2009 if you are interested. I'm sort of plotting online this year - trying something new.
I can't wait for November to get here.

Hi everyone, I'm Elandryia
This is my first year and I've decided that I can't decide on anything; that if I try to plot out my plot, then I loose interest. So I'm researching tips from other nano-winners who have succeeded while vaguely brainstorming. I'm creating my Nano- writing space, a inspirational poster about my story, with random colors, quotes, and ideas, and hoping I succeed.
Happy writing to everyone!

This is my second year doing NaNo...and I feel good about it already because I've already bought my NaNo shirt (the red one) and the awesomeeee NaNo hoodie. That thing could NOT be warmer and it makes me happy inside. xD.
This year, I'll probably be doing fanfiction or something along those lines because I'm much busier than I was last year and I don't think I'll be able to develop too many of my own characters with the -- what am I talking about, no one develops characters during November! :P I'll still probably be doing fanfiction though. xD.
Hopefully we'll have some write-ins near Brunswick because since I'm underage/can't drive legally, I can only go as far as my parents and/or older brother is willing to drive me, hahaha.
I have been so psyched about this year's NaNo ever since last year's ended! (Well, okay, maybe I started getting excited about it around March...those four months in the interim were spent recovering from my first novel.)
I can tell this year is going to be gooooood! :D

Hey All. My name is Suze and this is my first year of NaNo.
I am originally from the Farmington area but now live in Lewiston, and am in my first year of college after taking a year off after high school to get stupid. I've also lived in North Carolina and Colorado.
I'm a cat lover (my baby's name is Metallica, like the band) and I love all kinds of media, everything from books to movies to music and TV.
I haven't decided what I'm writing exactly this year, but I'm developing the plotlines of about a dozen different novels (I struggle with coming up with two many different plots and getting distracted by one idea and abandoning the one I'm working on for it) so that when November rolls around, at 11:58 on Halloween I can begin by pulling one of the ideas, quite literally, out of a mug.
I've been trying to recruit some fellow Mustangs (I go to CMCC) into NaNo and think I got one last night during Theater class. here's hoping!

Hi! Liz here (Listy sometimes online), from beautiful Brunswick. I swore that this was the year I would take off from NaNo, but alas, I was browsing through a paranormal board last month when a certain topic caught my eye and woke up the plot bunnies in my brain, so like my first win in 05, I will be trying my hand at suspense-horror (sleep is for the weak, anyway).
I've done NaNo since 04, when I lost spectacularly, then won in 05 with a somewhat decent story and 06 with a story I am still editing and hope to share with the world one day. In 07 I tried starting without a plot, which did not work at all. Last year I still didn't have an original plot, so I did some fan-fiction. I won, but ended up hating the story itself (I totally blame George Lucas).
This year, I am totally determined to give it my best shot. Since 05, I have been attending the Westbrook Panera write-ins and plan to do so again this year (sorry I haven't been around much lately guys! Hope to see you soon!). I heartily recommend write-ins and totally attribute my wins to the support of my fellow writers.
Good luck to everyone!
PS: I maintain a little NaNo Maine lj community; it isn't very active but it is totally open for posting and such. I believe the link should be below in my signature.

Hi, I'm Liesl, known here as Reese. This is my fifth year, though only third on the boards. I'm a 17-year-old senior, German (yay Germans!), and live in Easton. Currently I'm battling the aftermath of bad wisdom teeth surgery, so I may not be back much over the weekend. This year I'm tackling a realistic fiction novel that should be interesting. Hello! I'm Sue, and I've planted myself in Old Town. November's my birthday month. Yay! The number's not important. Right? This will be my first NaNo, and I'm sooooo excited.
I'll be writing a Young Adult fantasy fiction. Zoe and the gang are just busting to jump the fences, but I've got them locked up tight until the first. Did I mention, I've never written fantasy fiction before? Good grief! What was I thinking?
When I'm not working, I'm on-line at Fanstory.com. I joined this wonderful writing community in August, 2008. November's schedule is bound to be hectic, as I work retail. Still, I'm interested in attending some write-ins, Bangor/Old Town area, on my nights off.

I'm Chester. Moved to Downtown Portland, Maine back in June. After living in Boston for about 8 years (undergrad, grad school, and afterwards), my husband and I moved to rural NY for a year, hated it (Nothing to do! No ethnic food! Gah! Horrors!), and then decided to move back to New England. Boston was a bit pricey for us to move back to, so we looked at other cities in the area and decided Portland was a good fit for us! Love discovering awesome new things here in Maine!
I'm a 27-year-old artist. This is my third NaNo and I'm looking forward to it! No plans for the story yet, but I like to have a rough plan before November starts, so I'll hopefully have something by the end of the month. Hopefully I'll make it to a few write-ins in Westbrook this year, since I am now in possession of my car. I'm currently toying with a contemporary fantasy plot-line, which essentially consists of a bunch of old plots that I threw together. Oh the joys of writing! Hi!
My name is Audrey. I'm from the southern-midcoast region of Maine.
This is my first year of doing NaNo. So, accordingly, I have questions about EVERYTHING!
My novel is in part based on a journal I kept of letters I wrote to my son when he died. He was two when we lost him and would now be 21. It also encompasses the friendship with my life long pen-pal from the UK who I eventually met and married. I'm working on intertwining the letters between him and I with various points in my journal. I still write to Josh every day and will probably tell him I'm finally coming out of my shell and joining in with something that to date, I've only looked at from afar.
I'm also a photographer and when I'm not out shooting, I can usually be found trying to keep up with my three year old daughter and 19 year old twins, one of which leaves for the USAF on November 4th. Oh and yeah, I'm a mommy-blogger, just thought I'd throw that out there too!
Now, who wants tell me what this is all about.
Oh and yeah, I'm totally up for write-ins at Panera!

Howdy, all.
I'm just some old dude who lives in Rockport. This'll be my second year. Got my 50K words done in November 2008, then continued writing for another ten months, and ended up with a pretty decent 148,000-word story called Lydia. Which I'm just now editing down. Trimming. Pruning. Massaging. I care about it a lot.
One idea for this year's novel occurred to me only a couple days ago. It'll have to do with birding and contain a dose of mystery and take place during fall migration. It doesn't yet have a working title even. Cool. Or I might tackle another idea I've had for a while involving a country-rock band in Austin, Texas, circa 1974. (It does have a working title: Hill Country.) I'll let my muse decide.
Incidentally, by far the most writing I got done last year in one sitting happened at a write-in. I can recommend those highly.
