Welcome to another year at Hogwarts... oh... wait. WRONG CROWD. Let's try this again...
::clears throat::
Welcome to another year at NaNoWriMo. As Karalianne has now moved to Saskatoon, two wonderful and beautiful ladies have risen to the challenge of being co-ML's for the Calgary area. We are Huushiita and Xanataria. If there are any questions, concerns, or you just want to implement any kicking ideas you can come to us.
Huushiita wants everybody to know that this is her sixth year doing NaNo. She's very excited to begin again this year, as always. You may call her Huushi. She was the one that wore that atrocious neon/lime green cowboy hat last year, that later turned into a pink and brown hat. This is her first time being an ML. She likes to take walks in the park while the moon is up high, reading writing books, listening to music, and has never strolled alongside the ocean but would like to one day change that. Huushi likes to joke around but can be very serious when need be. If there is a problem that needs attention, rest assured, she will be there for you. All you need to do is drop her a NaNo mail.
Xanateria is back for her fifth NaNo this year. Though she is hugely excited, she alternates that with spurts of terror because this is her very first year as an ML. You can call her Xana..or any other variation you can come up with. Heck, she also answers to hey you, if you are really stuck. As for which person she was at the events last year, well just think short, brown haired and oh yeah with a dog attached to her wrist. Xana navigates the world with the help of her mobility service dog, Declan. Before she says anything else, she would like to remind the region's participants that even though Declan is wonderful, he needs to be left alone to do his job at events. If you have any dog related concerns though, don't hestitate to drop her a NaNo mail. When she isn't trying to write frantically, or dealing with her share of ML duties, she enjoys reading (especially fan fiction), playing on Live Journal, and day dreaming about taking another cruise some day.
So. What about you guys? Please introduce yourself so everybody can get to know each other!
And how are you guys feeling now that the Count Down has begun? :)
(Ps. I did this wrong the first time, so I'm posting it correctly.)

Hey peeps!
I'm Geolojazz! Geologist by day, writer by night! Or by lunch hour, whichever fits. ;-)
I was only at the wrap-up event last year...haven't a clue what I wore, but I have brown curly hair if that helps, and I know I chatted with a few peeps who I had word wars with. Also, Tim, Broom Rider, CabbyHat...you're in my novel! :D
I'm continuing the same story from last year, the thing didn't have the bloody decency to come to a conclusion, and my poor characters have been flailing about since Dec. 1st last year demanding to go somewhere or do something. Or at least have artfully written nothing to do. With November looming, I've gotta stop ignoring them.
I'm super hyped for this year's NaNo! You might not see me at too many events, but I'm hoping that you'll see me in the chat room frequently. Word Wars, man, that's where it's at!
Till later, dudes!

Hey hey~
Je suis Josiy, student extraordinaire. And new to Calgary just to mix it up.
I'm from the GTA originally (don't hold it against me), so I wasn't at any events here last year. Throw in the fact that I'm a bit awkward around new people (shy doesn't really work) and whether I'm around not is still up in the air.
My story this year is still completely up in the air, though I want to write some sort of children's novel. With pirates as well.
Still, am excited for NaNo~ Should be around a bit on the forums, if not that chat rooms, so ciaos for now~

I accept worship and praise in the form of gold nuggets, small unmarked bills, robot armies, and young attractive women.

Hi everyone!
Naiya here! Some of my non-writerly friends also call me Candice, but during November, that name is dead to me!
My stomach sank a little today when I realized that there's only 30 days of normalcy left, before I then realized that I don't really care! I enjoy the insanity of November, especially now that I've found a great group as the gang here in Calgary!
This is my fifth NaNo (assuming that I am counting correctly) and will hopefully be my fourth "win" (you can't win them all!). I moved back to my hometown of Calgary last year, after a bit of running around trying to finish my edu-ma-cation, and then spending a couple of years as a crazy field engineer. I'd like to think that I've settled here for a bit and am now a crazy Calgary engineer, the only real difference being in the location.
If you're looking for me, I'm usually the short girl with the red engineering jacket and short brown hair hiding in the corner typing frantically on her MacBook. I may seem quiet, but rest-assured that's all a disguise so don't be afraid to come say hi!
Also, Becky? I hope your typing fingers are warmed up! If you're NaNoing this year, you know we're going head-to-head at the first word war!

O.o Well ... crap.
I made a little tid bit about what the theme would be, but I guess it got lost in the deleting/reposting.
Ya, this year's theme is in relation to Zombies. :)
----------We'll be trying to center around NaNo around that. And yes, you will be have 'weapons' to beat the zombies back. Pretend weapons. Just, so you know. Becuase Zombies aren't real. Just... don't tell Hero that. lol

I am Maria, or AkitaFallow in the chatroom. I'm probably known to a couple people as one of those crazy teenage girls at the all-night write-in last year who was overly energetic at 3 a.m. Janna wanted to give us an award. ^^
This is my second year doing NaNo, and I am totally pumped! I won last year, so I want to keep the ball rolling (and my record perfect) this year. My two novel ideas are conflicting and very different: One is a realistic fiction about a girl who's struggling against everything in her life, and the other is a fantasy about someone who can't do anything in a world of magic. I can't decide which one to do! D:
Well, I definitely hope to see a lot of you at the Kick-Off! (When will that be, by the way, Huushi?)
(*looks around* Is Becky gone? Do I get to be the youngest Wrimotaur now? And maybe win a word war or two?? XP)

Hey Everyone!
It's your favourite Feytouched here to join in the fun!
I'll definitely be participating this year... And I've managed to convince the "Peanut Gallery" to give it a shot this year as well!
I'll be doing a total rewrite of my last nano... sort of.
I realized that I had no plot and no villain in last years Nano. But the characters are brilliant! So, armed with a plot this time, I should again succeed and have something worth editing next year.
Huushi, Hero, and Naiya, Good to see you guys again this year! I can't wait to see you guys at the kick off!

*bows deeply* Good day, all.
My designation is Silver Rose, though simply Silver works too. I might even prefer it. In any case, this only my second year as a participant of NaNoWriMo. Last year, I was one of two young womanly writers who was at the all night write-in, being hyper and crazily not dead. The blond one. I look forward to another great year with the Wrimotaurs. My non-NaNo interests include cosplaying (like adult dress up, with anime mixed in), drawing, hanging out with just about anyone who'll stand me, photography, and generally anything to do with anime. This year at the first meet, look for the blond one with short spiky hair, but only in the back. The front is shoulder length. I'll talk to anyone who talks to me. ^^
Also, give me challenges!!
P.S. Hahah Maria, I'm younger than you!!
----------Once upon a time, there was a girl named Alexis South. She was perfectly normal. Except for the voices in her head that told her to kill people. Sucks to be her. D=

Hello to everyone. I look forward to trying this again, this year I am certain I shall win!
Certainly a zombie theme can only help - does this mean we have to dress up like zombies, or will that likely get us pretend killed with pretend weapons?
p.s. - I love that darned dogs name, Declan. It makes me want to get a dog just to name him that!

Sorry, had to post again... Identifying feature for me last year, I'm the one who was proud to be a Nano-rebel, writing about "A Magical Cat Girl and her Friends"
Also, I'm sorry, you mentioned this years theme as Zombies... And all I could see suddenly, was writers who haven't showered in a month, with their eyes blank and filled with the soul deadening condition known as "Writer's Block".
If I didn't already have my story chosen for what I'm writing this year, I'd definitely write about that story. :)

Hi!
I'm Dewzy. I haven't seriously written any fiction for about three of four years, so I'm a little rusty. When I'm not daydreaming, I'm baking, sewing, reading and attempting to learn different languages. It's my first year doing NaNoWriMo--I was drawn in by the challenge, the glamour... and the zombies sealed the deal.
My novel is an adventure historical fiction. It's set in the early North South States Period in Korea. A young Silla soldier must negotiate his way home through both the human and supernatural world. I hope that it turns out as well as it's playing out in my head.

Dewzy! I'm so glad that you'll be joining us all this year...
I finally convinced her to come... although apparently it was the Zombies more than my bugging her for a year that must have done it... Or does this mean I am simply a Nano-Zombie the rest of the year, trying to create a few friends to call out "Nano" with me during the rest of the year?

Naiya poked at me to stop my excuse making... so here I am!
My name is Kerrie, and I'm new to Calgary! I am a graduate student in History at UofC, so my time is in short supply these days! Even more than normal november.... who decided on November anyway? Baad time of year ;)
I am setting a more modest goal, since 50k is completely unattainable for a first year M.A. student! Not sure what I'm going to write about, but it will be one of the novels that's swimming around in my head XD
I love anime and history, and of course, writing. I want to write young adult fantasy, as that is the genre I love the most!

Hi, I'm Shahmeran AKA Sha AKA Bananananana... or just Sarah, if you meet me in real life (though Sha could work there too).
I was at some of the meetups last year writing my horrid attempt at literary fiction that turned into out and out smut :P I was there for part of the all-nighter even...
I'm writing science fiction this year, which is slightly closer to my traditional stomping ground of fantasy, and I've done a lot more planning and (due to losing my job and not being able to start school right away^^;) currently have more time than last year too. I'm actually aiming to write something publishable this time (or at least the *first draft* of something publishable :P).

Hi!
So I'm caitir3, also called Courtney... or Ms. M. Which is a new one. I just started a post-undergrad teaching degree, and no, they weren't lying when they warned us of the insanity. Not that it's as much work as an M.A., Kerri! (Hi btw!!) But still, with weekly assignments, weekly presentations, group assignments, and three 20+ papers all due between now and the end of November... well, can we say modified word count goal?
I was around a little bit last year. This is my third NaNo... and I won last year because I wrote 40 000 words in the last weekend. That's right. I'm THAT one. I also ruined my wrists, so this year will be all about the voice software and handwriting!! (PS- stretches are good. Really.) Umm... at the few events I attended, I had either green hair, or buzzed hair toward the end. Sadly, my purple hair has to wait until summer, so I'll just be a dirty blonde this year. (A very dirty blonde >:D).
I won't be on the chatrooms, but I hope to be a *gasp* live presence this year!!
Oh, yea, and the whole novel thing- I plan to write children's fiction. With an outline, if I find time! My goal? Besides the whole modified word count thing, of course. Anyway, is to actually write every day! That's what got me the last two years- I'd miss a few days, then the word/day ratio increased, panic set in, and procrastination won! But this year, I am armed with the knowledge that if I can write more than 40K in two days, I can surely write SOMETHING every day!
Good luck everybody-can't wait!!

Hi everyone,
My name is Janet (which is cleverly disguised by my long-time internet handle, Hanet) and I'm a student at the U of C. Whoo students! Holla!! I am craazy busy: 4 courses, 1 part time job and 1 vice presidency of a club. As as been mentioned, November is not totally a great month for students to be writing 50,000 words above and beyond essays and exams. Nevertheless, I'm gonna give it a try again this year!
Last year my skewering of detective fiction collapsed about halfway through and I thought about revamping it for Nano this year (the ending was gonna be AWESOME)... but that's sorta cheating and besides, it doesn't sound that fun to me! So I got this idea for a story about the Garden of Eden and what if Eve sinned and was kicked out of the garden but Adam didn't and continued to live there? Years later, as Eve is near death, she sends one of her descendants back to the Garden even though it's forbidden, because she just wants to say goodbye to Adam. I was thinking it would be like a philosophical comment on love and sin and forgiveness. .....but, if you would like to be technical about it, it's actually AU Biblical fanfiction..... Except can we please not call it that??
I hope to make it out to some more events this year. I went to a grand total of TWO last year... I am aiming for more at least a few more than that this year! Also, if there is enough interest, we should get some meetings going for students on campus. Any takers?

Oh man how did I get here I am not good with computer.
I'm Mark, AKA Mork (I too was shocked). This will be my fifth year participating in nano. The last two years were both wins for me, and I hope to keep that streak up. I'm currently in the almost-final stages of editing and rewriting last year's novel (Erotic Bisexual World of Warcraft Fanfiction) which I fully intend to complete this month, so I will likely arrive in November all warmed up and already sick of writing. Last year I threatened to write Erotic Polyamorous Calgary Nanowrimo fanfiction, but I'm not sure fragile minds (including my own) could survive that. I am thinking of going for 100k this year rather than just 50.
Also, it's good to see some old friends back, and good to see some new people too *cough cough Kerrie cough*.

My name is Chris, and I am a glutton for punishment.
This will be the fourth year that I will be attempting this. I haven't won yet, but for some reason that hasn't kept me from diving in yet again.
My nano handle used to be "crsic" but this year I decided to change it to something that was more than a seemingly random pile of letters.
I'm a ripe old 32, married, child-free but not dog-free. I play guitar, make webcomics, design games, and am currently working on a couple of podcast ideas. Basically, I want to do everything that slightly interests me. This usually works to my disadvantage.
Looking forward to getting in the trenches with you all next month. Good luck!

Hi fellow Calgarian (and area) Nanowrimo partakers,
My name is Amanda (sorry no clever alias) and this is my first nanowrimo.
I'm excited to jump into the crazy world of fiction writing and look forward to the challenge regardless of whether or not it turns into a readable story or 50,000 words! I'm planning on writing chick lit with a little bit of suspense, comedy, and romance!
I live in the SW near MRU, but have a car so I am able to travel.
Hope prep is going well for everyone!
